I know on the poll they had for guests, they also had an option of a rolling FP, as you used one you could get another, so if you wanted you could always have three. This would enable you to book the Fireworks while still picking up more FP's during the day as you used your others. That would be more what I would like, but they probably realized that would be harder to work.
That would help, but I think you should be able to pre-book one, and then roll it as you use each one, or as, or within a certain number of hours after, the park opens- similar to FP-. For example, if you use your 1 on MSEP which does not occur until night, then when the park opens at 9:00 a.m. you can book a new FP at that time. You then, must wait either 1 or 2 hours, or until you have used that FP to get your next one, just like the old days. This would prevent the system from being flooded at the outset and causing problems like it is doing now. It would go back to some people taking advantage of it throughout the day and others ignoring it. You should also be able to do it from
MDE, not at a kiosk, although I'm guessing the problem with that is it would overload the MDE system at park opening if everyone was trying to book a FP+ at once. MDE barely worked at all when we were in the parks as it is.
Their new changes are absolutely worthless. You aren't going to get more than 3 that have any purpose whatsover. First their announcement was that you don't get a 4th until you have used all three of yours. If you have 1 for nighttime entertainment, then you will never be allowed a 4th. Even if you have your 3 set up back to back in the mornings, the chances of anything that you need a FP for being left over by the time you have used all 3 are slim to none.
The problem is that where previously everyone used FP- at their own pace- with some not bothering with it, some just pulling 1 a day, and those which pulled several- now basically Disney pushes every resort guest to book three 60 days before setting foot in the park, and now offsite to do the same 30 days in advance. Disney has taken a system that some people used and some people did not- or that everyone used at a different pace, and pushed and marketed it into a system that virtually all on site resort guests now use which now overloads the system and causes the issues reported from the parks. Resort Guests are E-mailed and reminded over and over to set those FP+. As such, instead of everyone starting out with no FPs on a park day, some pulling none at all and other pulling 1 at a time with everyone's choices spread out among their priorities. Disney has funnelled all on site guests into a system where the vast majority now overload the system because everyone, even people who normally didn't really use FP, now are booking 3 in advance. Plus, WDW has increased the number of FP per day it is allowing on per ride. so that both the FP and standby lines are longer because more FP are pushing through the lines. They basically had to do this to deal with the capacity of the system issue as they are now basically pushing every single resort guest to pre-book. As a result, offsite guests are now practically compelled to utilize FP+ whether they normally used it or not, because without it the lines are ridiculous. Where you used to have people utilizing FP- in a variety of ways that balanced out the system- now everyone is pushed to use it which basically floods it and causes the problems which are currently being seen in the parks. The new system has the balance totally off. WDW's announced changes aren't going to do anything to remotely help the problem.
