FP+ Grace Period

Another FP+ question here....

As we were scanning our FP+ for Splash Mountain, a couple of women came up behind us and said to the CM, "We are 10 minutes late. Can we still use it?" The CM waived them through. I was surprised. I thought we had to strictly adhere to the time window.

I asked another CM at one of the rides what the grace period is for FP+. He said "It depends on the CM. Some are nicer than others. And it depends on the excuse the guest provides for being late."

I was under the impression that FP+ was enforced strictly and we have always made our windows, but I was curious as to how much leeway CMs give for this.

Anyone been given a grace period on their FP+? How much did you get? How do you feel about the grace period?

Five minutes before and 15 minutes after for hour-long, non-show-type FPs. CMs can override it, so I recommend against relying on it. You may find the green link in my signature helpful.

Never tried getting in late, but we did get in about 5 min early once.

You can arrive 5 min early and it automatically lets you in, no CM over ride. 6 min or more ahead it won't light up green and let you in.

For after, it's 15 min. Anything later is up to CM discretion.

So no there's nothing weird at all about the two women getting let in 10 min after their window

CMs I trust say otherwise. To be clear, no override is normally involved within these GPs and access is given, but it can be changed depending on circumstances.

We've been late twice and early once. The first time we were late was to TOT and we were only late by about 5 minutes. We got a green Mickey with no apparent CM action and no comment. The second time we were late was to POTC and we got there about 15 minutes late (well, in that case, we had to do two overlapping windows and I was the only one late). I told the CM that I thought I was too late before I scanned my band. He told me to go ahead and try it anyway and I got a green Mickey. The CM looked at his screen and said, "You had 16 seconds left." The time we were early it was due to a mistake on my part....I just remembered when our window for Peter Pan opened incorrectly. When we got the blue Mickey I rechecked our plan, realized my mistake, apologized, and told the CM we'd be back in 25 minutes when our window opened. The CM told us it was no problem and to rescan our bands and go ahead and get in line. He overrode the system somehow because we got a green Mickey at both checkpoints after he overrode the first blue Mickey.

Long way of saying...there are some grace periods that are automatic and some that require CM intervention. As Mesa stated, though, anything can always be overridden by the CMs, including the grace periods.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. My first trip as a Disney newbie about 7 years ago, I didn't know that they let you arrive any time after the old fastpass was valid. (I know that later changed.) I just wanted to have as much info as possible for future planning.

That's exactly why I wrote the content in that link. Forewarned is forearmed. ;)

What do you mean they say otherwise? If you scan 1-5min before your FP window the system lights up green and let's you through with no CM over ride needed.

The automatic grace period can be turned off.

I was around 20 minutes late for a Peter Pan FP+. The CM scolded us a bit, and we apologized and gave her our honest reason (MK bus didn't come to POP as quickly as we'd hoped). I wouldn't have objected at all if she turned us away-- it was our fault for being late. She let us through, however, for which I was grateful.
