FP+ booking strategy

So, I have a few months to wait before I can book our FP+ options for our December trip. I have been reading here and there on threads and just learned today that all FP+ "tickets" must be used before guests are able to obtain FP tickets in park.

This changes my thoughts. So, now we have to decide what to do in the A.M., whether to use FP+ or SB for big rides, and then we can only do FP when the FP+ options are used?

You've got it.
First, and this may just be semantics... there is no FP, only FP+.

I haven't used FP+ yet, but a couple of patterns are emerging from the community...

If you are a rope dropper, at the park before it opens, champing at the bit, then schedule your FP+ for late morning/after the crowds pick up. More bang for your buck as you get the shorter early SB lines, then get to use FP+ when the crowds pick up. After using the first three (or letting their times pass, either one) you can get additional FP+ at the kiosks in the parks.

Others have been moving their FP+ as early in the day as possible - like using and moving the next one even earlier - to get into the +1 FP+ zone. Availability for the additional FP+s sounds uneven.

If you are not a rope dropper, sleep in, show up with the throngs and start using your FP+ at lunchtime.

Makes sense We stayed at Y&BC last year during the test phase, so we could reserve the FP+ and also get them in-park without having to use the others.

This is my 20+ trip, and I am disliking all of this planning ahead… and I typically have a WDW spreadsheet, complete with color coded days.
