FP+ and Park Hopping

Last time we were in Disney, it was December of '13, so there have obviously been some changes since then. We're headed back for a few days at the beginning of May, and for the first time we're doing Park Hoppers (only there three days, need to hop!) So ...

- How does the FP+ work with PH passes? If I book 3 FP+s for the first park, and then use them, can I use the app to make new FP+s at the park I'm on my way to? Or do I need to wait until I'm in the park?

- Are the kiosks only for the attractions that are in the park they are located in? (I'm assuming yes)

- Would you book your three for the first park you're going to, OR the attractions that are most popular (regardless of where they are)

My daughter and I are doing MK/Epcot on the first day and AK/MK on the second day. At Epcot, the only 2 rides we care to go on are TT and Soarin, which are both tier 1, so it seems wasteful to use the FP+s there. And at AK, we're pretty much only doing Dinosaur and Primeval Whirl, so I wouldn't use them there either .. So should I just use all of the FP+s at MK both days? (For some reason, that's not making much sense to me either, despite that being the park where most of our must-do rides are)

I think I just need some brainstorming help! :)

See the green link in my signature for answers to many of your FP FAQs.

I would rope drop the first park and have FP for the second park. Afternoon evening FP can be hard to get, and you cannot use the kiosks until you are in the park. You can use any kiosk in that park. You could do rope drop, 3 FP at the first park, and then take your chances at the second. I prefer FP at the second, that way I can guarantee the very best rides at each park - 1st with rope drop, 2nd with FP. Now in your scenario of limited rides at the other parks, it does sound like it might be good to do all the FP's at MK.

That was VERY helpful, thank you! Not too encouraging, though, to see you say certain FP+s are difficult to obtain. With our visit being limited to only being two days, I'm hoping that the ONE I want is available :)

A&E, Wishes, and Main Street Electrical Parade are pretty tough--the rest aren't too bad.

Yeah, it's MSEP I'm worried about. This will be trip #6 for me (and #3 for my daughter) and we've never seen it before!

I hope you get it, but if not a FP for it isn't that necessary IMO. If you're willing to show up 30 mins or so before in Frontierland you'll be fine.

Depending on how old your daughter is and if you are willing to split up, you can use single rider Test Track. We did just that this past week and never waited more than 30 minutes. Everest and RocknRoller coaster offer it too but doesn't look like you had those on your list. Another trick I learned on here was to hit these headliners right at park closing for little to no waits. Don't pay attention to what is posted, for instance we hit Toy Story Mania at 7:58 pm posted wait was like 80 minutes we barely waited 20. If you are doing RD, hit Soarin first then TT single rider if you don't plan to use FP on them. For MSEP we caught it from the area that heads to Splash in Frontierland literally as it was coming by. Because the walkway kind of goes uphill, we could see fine as we were up higher (although not great if you want photos) Have fun!

Definitely go the Frontierland route. I don't understand people booking MSEP as one of their initial 3 for a full park day. They lock themselves out of getting passes all day long. That seems crazy to me! Lol

We did just that this past week and it was great for extra riding of these rides. Single rider especially moves fast on Everest, TT and RnRC can be iffy but waits were still at least half if not less than the posted waits which were generally 85-120 minutes for these popular rides. We never waited more than 30, usually 20 or less for TT and RnRC. Everest was more like 10. Another trick I learned on here was to hit these headliners right at park closing for little to no waits. She's barely 10 .. The most rides we are doing are in MK (which is why I'm thinking of using all FP+s there both days) We COULD do Test Track single rider, thanks for the suggestion ...

I hear what you're saying, but we're there two days ... I guess I could duplicate rides if I didn't use it for MSEP....

I don't know your daughters age but if there are two MSEP scheduled for your night, go to the second. We were there on Veterans Day and went to the 10 pm parade and had our choice of where to sit and have front row seats.

I believe there is one at 11pm that night ... which would be good because (1) she's a night owl like me and (2) we're headed home the next morning ... but we'll be just coming off a weeklong cruise, so I don't know how worn out she'll be (she's about to turn 10) ... definitely worth noting, thank you!

I recommend FP+ at Epcot, even if it's just one ride. We hopped there on a slow day, and all the good passes were gone. I'd do the same the next day (FP+ the MK). As long as you're at RD, you should be fine in park #1. And we actually changed our parade passes in the park, because there are so many places to watch them. We sat in a sleigh outside a Christmas store (I think in Liberty square?). And your daughter might love the new mine train (a priority); my seven-year-old did! My kids loved all the parades, too, especially MSEP.

Mine Train is DEFINITELY a priority (for BOTH of us!!! LOL) We do plan on being at RD for MK on Day 1, and hoping for the FP+ at Mine Train for Day 2 (second half of day), so I do feel better about NOT using a pass for the parade. Especially in early May, it's looking like we should be fine to see it. Thank you!

You're welcome! :) I wish I'd fast passed Mine Train, but I didn't know my daughter was interested. She and my husband rode right at opening, though, and didn't even mind the line (my daughter is still talking about it, and I didn't see it, so I'm jealous ;)). Next time, though!

Another option would be to go: MK one day with FP+ (Rope drop with the first FP+ about 2 hours later. Once you use your three go for more at same park).

then go AK no FP+ and switch to Epcot with FP+ for SOARIN and then single rider line TT..

OR:

MK/Epcot with FP+ in MK
MK/AK/Epcot with FP+ in MK

OR:

MK/Epcot with FP+ in MK
MK/AK/MK with FP+ in MK
