FP - allowed returns later than 1, 2 or more hours??

I respectfully disagree. The OP started the thread, and they should be able to direct the topic of discussion. That's why redirecting the conversation to a different topic is referred to as "hijacking." After all, if you don't like the topic of discussion, you are free to start your own thread.

And I also think that blatently ignoring the OP's request to limit the debate is rude and disrespectful. Of course, I'm doing the same thing myself now.

OK, I'm done hijacking this thread, now. ;)
I respectfully disagree. Nobody can really control the direction of a conversation involving more than two people - and then only if one refuses to actually converse (advance the exchange of ideas) but instead keeps returning to the original topic.

Unfortunately, until this exact scenario happens to someone, we won't know. And even then, we may not get solid info. Disney has made it known that exceptions will be handled on a case-by-case basis. What one CM allows you to do in this situation may be different than what another CM allows someone else to do in this situation. There are no real answers to "how will Disney handle situations out of my control?" because each situation is unique.

Basically, you plan the best you can. If something goes wrong and you end up late for your FP window and a CM says, "I'm sorry", then you have the choice of either asking for an exception or hopping over to the standby line. If you ask for an exception and the CM listens to your situation and says, "I'm sorry", then you have the choice of asking for a manager or hopping over to the standby line. And so on up the line.

Look at all the people on the DIS who were not even aware they COULD use FP past their stated times. Those folks managed to make it through WDW just fine, real life situations and all. I'm sure it won't be nearly as much of a problem as so many people are making it out to be.

:earsboy:

I had a FP for Space Mountain that had a window of 12pm-1pm. I showed up at 2:00pm and was denied. I started asking about exceptions when all of a sudden 3 men in black suits showed up out of nowhere and grabbed me and put a bag over my head. They took me into an office where there stripped me down and searched me. They gave me a full body search and probed me in places I don't want to talk about. The last thing I remember is a large man wearing Mickey ears punching me in the face.

When I woke up, I was on Small World. I was handcuffed to the boat and they made me ride it for the rest of the day. Whatever you do... SHOW UP TO RIDES DURING THE FASTPASS WINDOW THEY PROVIDE!

:lmao:, serves you right, next time be on time;):rolleyes1

Of course after 11 pages of debate, the OP just left the thread here. Is it really so hard to answer the OP's questions and stay on topic in this thread, and to start another thread in which to debate?

Well, she got her answers as many as available to us now. One of the posters even put them together from different threads just for her to see. And after that she just said "time is ticking", give me answers. Seems like she did not like what she read.

As for debate, it would be no debate if she asked for strategies on how to do the most with new rules. But if person asks if people were successful in going around policies, you really think it will not cause debate?

Moreover, it simply against board rules to discuss strategies and possibilities of breaking rules.

Once again, I find myself agreeing with you. What is going on?!?!?! ;)

Well, I'm not the OP, so I don't know her motivations. But I got the impression that she just wanted to know what people's experiences were in the parks. I don't think she was trying to figure out how to break the rules.

Others have tried to ask similar questions, like how this thread started out:

We are going on Saturday and was curious how strict this new policy was going to be enforced....

...I just read 11 pages of people aRguing with each other and only 2 comments of people actually there...
The thread then proceeded to turn into a complete trainwreck.

It would be helpful, IMHO, if we could have a thread with "just the facts" and no debate or arguments.

I agree, that would be helpful. It's also not going to happen. You might as well ask everyone to report their personal factual experience with current US economic policy. This is the Disney equivalent.

I promised I'd ask and I did. My two students went to WDW last week and I asked them to keep an eye out on the 7th for the FP changes. They informed me that they saw numerous people turned away for arriving late, but for the most part they were unable to tell HOW late the people were. They said the lines for FP weren't much different than last year when they went. They DID squirrel a FP away and try to use it later (and were so thrilled to be doing it...like they were secret agents I'd sent on some clandestine mission). They arrived a few hours after the window and were told they couldn't use the pass.

Unfortunately I didn't task them with making up a story about late running ADR's or slow moving relatives to see if they'd be allowed on anyway.

I probably SHOULD have asked them to test the alleged "grace period".

And we have facts in every thread on FP change.

Facts:

Disney printed everywhere FP to be used only during return window.

CMs let late people in with "talk" first few days.

CMs do not let you in if you are late now.

Exceptions if there will be any are on case to case basis.

No other facts needed if one plans to follow rules.

:)

I'm a member of other non-Disney message boards, and I guess I'm just used to much stricter moderation and deference to OP requests. The blatant hijackings I've seen in these FP threads would result in warnings and even suspensions if the behavior continued. Oh well--it's a different board culture here, apparently.

:rolleyes1 It's the end of the world as we know it... :rolleyes1

I belong to a lot of other message boards, most non-Disney, and these boards are TAME when it comes to this stuff. Threads going off topic are not that rare where I hang out and often result in some of the BEST reads.

And honestly, when people start a thread like this on a topic that has been beaten to death and that has 800 other threads JUST like it... I don't see how they can expect anything different. The last 800 threads ended the same way... why would 801 be different?

We have some first-hand reports, true, interspersed between pages of off-topic debate and argument.

What about the rumored 15-minute grace period? What about the rumored 5-minute early entry?

...Exceptions if there will be any are on case to case basis.
Such as? More specifically, what type of "excuses" for being late are being considered by CMs? Ride breakdowns? ADRs running late?

No other facts needed if one plans to follow rules.
If the "case to case" basis is part of the new rules, it would be nice to know what types of cases are being considered. I wouldn't want to race across the park after an ADR that ran late if no exceptions for late ADRs are being made, for example.

Well, hope springs eternal...

And that's why the OPs in this and the other thread I linked to started off with entreaties not to hijack the threads (which were promptly ignored).

If a reader is interested in people's actual experiences, and not at all interested in pointless debate and argument, there's not a lot of signal-to-noise ratio in any of these FP threads.

1. 15 min grace period printed right on FP, also pointed at every thread.
5 min does not seem to work.

2. 3. If it on case to case basis, someone may have luck and you may run for nothing, so what is the point?

What folks don't seem to get is that no matter what you do with your FP, Disney wins -- they kept you out of line for an hour or so, and you probably went off and spent money in the meantime instead of standing behind the big hairy guy from New Jersey who's waiting to beat the stuffing out of someone jumping the line or "perverts" making off-handed jokes about kids and men in tights.

If you get to use the FP, no skin off their nose. If you don't, still no skin off their nose -- they have your ticket money already, and if you missed because you were spending money in a TS venue, guess what -- they STILL win!!!

No doubt... better not make any ADR's now... or try to get to a good spot to watch the parade... or wait in line for a ride for any length of time ... or wait in line for a character. Oh wait, just don't grab a fastpass is the simple answer. I love driving 17 hours... staying for a week... and now only being able to do maybe half or a little more than that of what we were used to being able to do... and for a higher price.

That's the new Disney philosophy, my friend. Get used to it. Guests are now known as "revenue units."

Exactly my feeling as I sit here after my third day in the parks... THEY can be late getting you seats, THEY can let it take 20 minutes to get through a FP line (like it took today @ Kil. Safari), but YOU better get back within that 1 hour window, potty breaks and meltdowns be d@mned! This new FP rule (and it is a new rule no matter what anyone says) is making our trip more harried and stressful.

I find myself agreeing with you a lot lately as well Kelly. Good post. :thumbsup2
