All star cast + all-time favorite holiday classic.

A Christmas Story Live is coming December 17 on FOX!

I'm not sure how I feel about it as a musical but I guess we shall find how it will be.

Does anyone know what live show NBC is doing

Mia Rudolph is playing Ralphie's mother.

I know there is already a musical stage production of A Christmas Story that is always touring around the holidays so the story as a musical is not a new thing.

It is one of my favorite Christmas movies so I'm crossing my fingers and hoping it is good!

It was suppose to be "Bye Bye Birdie", but it was postponed due to Jennifer Lopez's busy schedule. Not sure if they're doing any live broadcast for the holidays this year.

Yes, I haven't seen it, but they did it on Broadway as well. I've heard some of the songs and they are fun. Especially like When You're a Wimp and Somewhere Hovering Over Indiana.

Not an "All time Favorite Holiday Classic", a box office bomb that has turned into a cult classic after TBS decided to run a marathon of it back to back to back to back......

I may DVR it. There are some good actors who could make it interesting.

Last I heard NBC isn't doing anymore live shows.

Once they did Sound of Music and Grease I don't think many other shows would appeal to a WIDE audience.

It has been a favorite of many long before TBS even aired it. It came out in 1983, I'd call that a classic.

Sort of like Rocky Horror Picture Show. It was in fact.........at release.....a failure. Classic to me......is something that was a success from the beginning and endures, like a Ford Mustang. A cult film is like a Ford Edsel, a bomb that found an audience decades after it came out.

You know what was also a box office bomb? It's a Wonderful Life. Apparently it lost $525,000 for RKO (according to the book The RKO Story). It did have 5 Academy Award nominations, even though the critical reviews were mixed.

Fair enough. I define classic as something that has endured, even despite it's not so spectacular beginnings. I have been watching this movie since the late 80's when I was in highschool so it didn't take decades for it to find an audience. It took decades for it to find it's cult classic standing.

Fair enough. Not on my Christmas movie list either.
White Christmas and A Christmas Carol are probably my top movies for the season.
My wife's is Meet Me in St. Louis.

It is age dependent in my experience. Much more popular with those under about age 40 to 45 than those over.
Sort of like Sesame Street and the Electric Company, I was too old for them when they first came on the air, and for some reason my kids favored Rugrats, Doug and Guts 30 years later over PBS shows.

I remember at my previous job, an Anchor came in from Nashville in 2004. He was a big Christmas Story Fan, and was surprised that none of the dozen or so staff on the morning news team were.
