Fox is doing a Christmas Story Live

My kids watched most of it. They thought it was pretty meh, but had fun looking for goofs in the live performance.

When it came to the Chinese restaurant scene, I knew there was no way they would do it like the movie. I will say I thought they handled it well. The staff sang the song without the stereotypical accent. The Old Man said, "I wasn't expecting that," and the restaurant owner gave him a defiant look and asked, "What WERE you expecting?"

I recorded it so I can fast forward through the songs. I just want to see the actual show. The original wasn’t a musical, so I really don’t care about the added music in the show.

All star cast + all-time favorite holiday classic.

A Christmas Story Live is coming December 17 on FOX!

I'm not sure how I feel about it as a musical but I guess we shall find how it will be.

Does anyone know what live show NBC is doing

it actually wasn't too bad. Made it all the way to the end.
I mean, we turned off Grease Live about 10 minutes through, so...

I watched about half.. was entertaining.. went to bathroom during a commercial break.. came back and my son had turned to the football game and i had forgotten all about the show... will see if its available on Demand..

Note this is my favorite Xmas movie. I saw it in the theater when I was 20, had a bootleg VHS from HBO, the real VHS, the DVD x 2 and pretty sure I have a Blu ray. Oh and visited the house in Cleveland and have a leg lamp tie.

For me it took me at least half way into it to sort of get into it. In the beginning it was like they were checking off boxes. I think I stopped worrying about it and just tried to be entertained. Like at first the Miss
shields "you'll shoot your eye out" tap dance number seemed silly but I was like where do they find that many kids that can tap dance the well?

If you do this you may only get 15 minutes of show. :)

but as it started I was like oh its a musical never even crossed my mind that it would have singing.

I was impressed by the set and camera work. I really like the parents, especially Maya Rudolph. It was fun watching the young actor playing Randy look right at Matthew Broderick whenever they were in a scene together.

The Chinese restaurant scene was great, although they replaced the "Chinese people can't pronounce L" stereotype with a "Chinese Americans all go to Ivy League schools" stereotype. But I still liked the subversion.

This was based on the 2012 Broadway musical. My favorite numbers were "The Genius on Cleveland Street" and "What a Mother Does"

Ok here is what it was missing. In the movie Jean Shepherd had a cameo as the guy that told Ralphie and his brother that the line ends here it starts back there.

It would have been neat if say Peter Billingsley had a line like that in the show.

I happened upon it by accident right near the beginning and did enjoy it for a bit. But I didn't make it to the end because I was exhausted last night.

I only got to see part of it, but I have one question...

Does "Ferris Bueller" REALLY have that much white hair now??? Or was it dyed for the show to make him look older?

(Yes, I know he's in his 50s now, which floors me in the first place...)

Yes, whenever I hear Matthew's voice I hear Ferris... I did not care for the show at all. I gave it a chance for an hour. To be fair, I'm not into musicals.

I liked the good parts...
But, the bad parts.. some of the constant lame awful 'musical numbers'.... UGGHHH!!!!!
The whole seen with Santa Clause and 'you'lll shoot your eye out...' was a non-event... they immediately broke into singing a very lame musical number...
Seriously!!!!!

I loved 'Dr. Ken' in the role at the restaurant!
But, the first thing I did was look at DH, and said "They are singing the song RIGHT!!! NOT with the Asian thing!!!"

We watched this last night and really enjoyed it! We're not huge Christmas Story fans so we really didn't have anything to compare it too. Loved, loved, loved the Hanukkah song!

When I saw Matthew Broderick the first thing I thought of was his role in "The Producers." I really enjoy musicals -- which might be part of the problem last night -- the music and dancing were so amateur.

I thought Ana Gasteyer was the best part of the show. I like Maya Rudolph, but boy, Ana would have done a better job as Mrs. Parker.

You gave it a better shot than I did. I bailed after about 20 minutes, AND I fast-forwarded through the songs. I'm not into musicals either but I'll admit there are some good ones. These songs that are cooked up for a tv special...not so much.

I lasted about 15 minutes before I turned it off. I adore “A Christmas Story” and this was just blah to me. I get that it was not supposed to be the same but I did not enjoy the musical numbers.

Now I live in Cleveland and have been to the house and have seen the play that our local theater puts on and I love that. But there is no music and it is more like the book.
