The kids have a snow day. We got about 1.5 inches, but there's ice on top. The first call came at 4:48, the second at 5:15. Don't know why we got 2 calls...

DS has already been out in the snow, and packed a snowball to store in the freezer until summer. Gotta love it.

My fever is down, but the cough is worse, and kept me up all night. Surgery is officially cancelled. The next available date is April 2. Doesn't work for me on SO many fronts! I may just wait and do it in the fall. Gotta see what the doc says.

I'm headed to my GP now to get something for this cough.

Stay warm, stay safe, and stay well!!

Yup Wiarton Willie is an albino ground hog. I know last year he and yours disagreed but can't remember who was right.

They both were right...they make the prediction come out that way!

WOW! 4:48! They must have been sure they were going to cancel. I don't think our district decided until 5. The earliest I ever got a call was 5:20 and I was a teacher. Of course we just had a snow chain call---old fashioned I know!
Don't put it off too long. You really will feel great after it's done. I know schedules can be awful. At least your card wasn't stamped!!! There's a reason you got sick...you probably won't know...so keep your positive attitude. :thumbsup2

Going out to shovel...

I'll try and keep the smile on! It looks awful where the plow went down the street.

Kids are home from school today. Had to wait till 5:32a to see it posted on the local news website as a cancellation. We are expecting to get 10 to 16 inches of the white stuff. :crazy2:

Hello Tkers!

whgrn: That is too bad about the surgery. You were all set and ready to go but now you have to put it off.....

I hope you work it out with your DR. so that you can have it done when YOU want to.

. (Only one I could find.)

Oh yeah. I forgot who asked but YES I did make the cookies and my cabinet did clean up nicely.

I want to share my nit-wit act for the day. (well, the only one so far) I was making DD some eggs in the microwave....When I went to squirt in the liquid butter I ended up putting in mustard! :sad2: Luckily, I caught it right after I did it. If I had served them to DD she probably would have never trusted me to make eggs ever again. I set them aside on the counter and as luck would have it DH came home for the day (iced out) so I asked him if he would like to try a "culinary experiment". Now granted DH can be difficult at times but when food is involved he is always easy. Anyway, wouldn't you know it... he liked it!

DL55, I haven't always been allergic to poison ivy. When I was a child I plowed through it just like your mom. Only in my adulthood did it start to affect me. So beware! Never presume you are totally immune. M&N, looks like disliking cold weather isn't the only thing that happens with old age!

Oh I don't assume I am immune. Poison oak is a plant that I can definitely identify. :thumbsup2 Doesn't Deviled eggs have mustard in it? Just thinking eggs and mustard would be alright with me. It even spices up the egg. :)

whgrn :grouphug: :grouphug:
D&DDisney  I hate it when it comes out both ends. :laundy: Hope he's feeling better. :flower3:

So I went to the doctor and it seems I have bronchitis. I have to go for a chest x-ray tomorrow to rule out pneumonia, which is apparently going around.

Ay yi yi. I want my mommy...

I know we are all getting sick of snow. Groundhog Day is this Monday. I know you all want to be informed so here's the site for the world famous Punxsutawney Phil.
http://www.groundhog.org/info/
Racer---do you know how to do a poll? I think you should do one for groundhog day predictions. Will the groundhog predict an early spring? Will the groundhog predict a late spring? Who cares what the groundhog predicts? Or something like that...

Wow! Everyone must have been busy today.

Here's a little 'germ away' for everyone...

whgrn, I'm so sorry you are sick. I've caught something myself. Sinuses like always. I know you were hoping to get your surgery done and over with but I do believe it is His way of telling you that this is not the right time for it. Maybe the stress you've been under would have made your recovery longer and much harder? When the time is right, your surgery will happen. :flower3:

M&N, I have no clue how to post a poll. I think D&D did one before. Maybe she can help. Looking at the way things have been out there, the discussion could get pretty heated. :rotfl2:

I want to stir up some groundhog excitement. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Who knows how to do a poll?

Morning all:

Sorry can't help you with the poll Marty...never done one.

Do your school really call you to tell you they're closed? I don't think I'd be happy if they called at 5am. We listen to the radio in the morning and they list any closed schools. Usually it's just country buses that they cancel...and definitely not for a few inches of snow.

With the ground hog we want him to see his shadow and you don't...only 6 more weeks of winter is actually a good thing for us. :lmao:

Hope everyone is feeling better today.

TTYL

Yes, Ev, they really do call us. It used to be they'd call about 6 am. But in the past couple years it's gotten earlier and earlier. When I was a caller on the phone chain, I'd get my call around 5:30.

This year they started an automated calling system. So when that call came at 4:48, I figured I was done. THEN I got the "live" call at 5:15. Don't know why they're doing both. Maybe just making sure the automated system works before they stop the live one?

I know they have to err on the side of caution as far as school closings go, but 1-1.5 inches is NOT a snow day in my book! And by the time the kids were coming home, it was a steady rain, the roads were fine, and it was 44 degrees! Heck, at that hour, my kids were out pushing the slush off the driveway and sidewalk.

So now they get to go to school on Presidents' Day, which is no big deal becuase I think they SHOULD go and learn about the Presidents like Lincoln and Washington. Just like I think they should go on MLK day and learn about him.

Ahhh, if I ruled the world...

Hey Wendy:

Did they decide if it was pneumonia yet? Hope they gave you some good drugs to clear it up.

If we closed schools for a couple of inches...our kids would have been off since Nov!! That's something else we don't do...there is no days added to make up for snow days. School is done June 24th no matter what!!

I have to go for a chest x-ray to find out about the pneumonia. The diagnosis doesn't make much difference--it is what it is, regardless of what you call it, and I don't know that the treatment would change. I'm on an antibiotic and a cough medicine with codeine (which really works). Taking Motrin for the aches and fever. Drinking lots of tea and OJ. Not eating much--no appetite--but I'm trying. I did have some grits and a banana for breakfast. It just hurts so much to swallow!

Off to take a nap. Eating breakfast has me plum wore out!

At least you are in your own bed and not with your leg propped up. You can do that later. Mom's leg was on a machine that move it ever so slightly all the time. Of course I guess you'll have the more high test drugs then. Something to look forward to a little longer. :)

Well, I had the xray, and they said if it was positive, they would call my doctor and I'd hear today. It's past 5:30 and no phone call, so I have to assume no news is good news.

Heck, I could tell them it isn't pneumonia--a walk to the bathroom doesn't feel like running a marathon! Nope just a lousy case of bronchitis that should clear up within a week.

Meanwhile, my surgeon's office just called and said they have now scheduled my surgery for February 18. That's ALOT different from April 2! I said GREAT! So now we begin the pre-op dance all over again... I have 2 weeks to get "all better". considering I'm generally very healthy, that should be ok. Starting with eating better, at least a little bit each day. i got some chicken rice soup (the chicken noodle is all made with egg noodles) and we'll see how that goes down.

My DS came in today and announced that his friend had told him he could get a YouTube account. What? Since when is his friend in charge? I told him no way, no how. He says he can wear a hoodie and a mask, and put a sheet up behind him, and not identify himself in any way, and make the account private so only people he invites can see it. Ummm, so then what's the point??? I told him he could just forget about it.

Kids!

Good Morning dear friends! its about 9am here, at least, which makes it about 8pm last night for you guys.

I'm sorry I haven't been able to skim for anything but the last page. From what I gather, Wendy's been having a rough turn! Hurrah on getting the surgery rescheduled for the end of the month. Feel better everyone!

Don't have too much time, borrowed a friend's computer. The house is less finished that we thought, but its going to be beautiful....SOMEDAY. The pool is amazing and is a blessed respite from the dust of construction.

I've been officially dubbed "Ma'am English". My "students" come up to me at the grocery store all the time and tell their parents I'm the American who came to their school. So adorable. Classes went great, except for the fact that I was sweating buckets the entire time! Everyone was really attentive and respectful and if I could have taken them all home, I would have. I felt like Santa giving out candy and trinkets. A lot of kids didn't eat their candy, but put it in their bag to bring home to share with their siblings....so of course I slipped them a little extra...

One class I got to talk about Disneyworld! A student asked if I had ever seen Mickey Mouse. I told her that I had and that I had a whole bunch of friends who love Mickey too!

Well, today a friend of mine is graduating from her residency program so I'm off to get ready for the ceremony. I've missed everyone so much and am looking forward to reading about all that's been happening on here. Please take care everyone, I watch the Today show and have been following the crazy icy weather there! Take care of yourselves and your loved ones, keep warm and happy and I hope to stop by again soon@! MWAH to everyone!

Whoo-hoo Magikitty checked in. Sorry I missed you Kitty. You must be having a blast. Much better than all of us here that are absolutely freezing. It ios terribly cold and snowy.

Sorry I missed you Magikitty. Sounds like you are having a great time. Give those little ones a hug from me. Take care, have fun and we'll see you when you get back.

Hi LITC!!

Feb. 18 No illness---no bad weather!!!

Excuse me...I don't have my hoodie on...Thank goodness you can't see me! :lmao:

Hey "Ma'am English". So glad to hear from you. Definitely not pool weather here. We're just holding out the groundhog has good news for us! A little extra for them to share at home is great. It's special when they want to learn.
I will never forget a comment a student made my 2nd year teaching. She came into the library and said my name and then said "I saw you in the street!" I think she meant downtown. :) It's not that big of a place but it sure sounded funny. I felt like I had done something wrong.
