Four-mer TKers...4 one, 4 all, 4 ever

:wave2: Good evening all. For now I guess I got my second wind. DH and I just got back from trying to choose eye glasses for the each of us. So many frames, not enough time. I guess we will each get a pair eventually.

As far as basements go, we have a split level house. With two bedrooms and another living room with a wood stove. Washer and dry in with the furance area. Our land is about an acre and a half in a triangle. We wanted a full basement with regular ceiling height. Unfortunately we have a very wet area and could only have 4' knee walls. With concrete knee walls and floors we were hoping that water wouldn't find its way down there. We got water in there only once when ice built up behind the house because DH was driving over it with his snow machine. This past summer we were painting and doing my craft room over and we found some mold on the ceiling and a little on the wall. I don't ever remember it being in there when Pikester lived at home. When we went to get paint it was recommened to us to use bathroom paint because it is mildew resistant. It was great that it came in ceiling and wall paint. We have since gotten a de-humidifier. This time of year we really should have a humidifier. Can we ever win?

BKMETV~ I loved the kitchen wisdom poem :lmao:

mariezp~ I hope that itch will go away. Have you tried taking a baking soda bath or maybe epsome salts.

racetrack18kb~ I hope you will feel better soon. Coming your waypixiedust:

M&N~ Your basement story reminds me of Kevin in "HOME ALONE". They can be very scarey.

Bopsmom~ I was telling DH about all the critters that you have around your place and he thinks that it is :cool1: We both like the Javelina. So ugly that he is cute. :lmao:

Might get a chance to chat later.

Don't have a basement here. In fact, none of the places we have lived had a basement. And we won't have one when we move most likely. My Aunt did have a place with one when we were growing up and it always scared the daylights out of us kids. No matter how bright the lights were, it was never bright enough. Way too many dark corners with who knows what in them. :scared:

MSP, man what is going on up there? What school is this?

Bopsmom, I remember when you had the skunk problem last year. Has it been that long already?

M&N, see you have the basement problem too. I think I would only want one if it was all finished. I am not big on basements. Besides my Aunt's scary basement, my Gram lived in a very old house and half the basement still had a dirt floor. Couldn't drag me down there.

Who's ready for the snow?

The school isn't bad it just rains when it pours..... I took the quickest shower of my life this AM! I know that some day looking back I will find this all very very funny right :upsidedow

SNOW, SNOW, SNOW!It's coming, or so they say. Our reliable ( ) weather man says 2-4 of sleet and snow changing to freezing rain wed am. Like can't we just get a good old snow storm and cut out this sleet and freezing rain? You'll probably get ours too Racer. Last week when it was snow showers we got 2 in so this time I'm expecting very little. I did get the wreaths off the windows and the garland off the rail but forgot the little red bows on my little bush. I'm surprised they didn't blow off by now. I guess I should put the heart on the door tomorrow. Of course the snowman still is ok too.
BTW--Glad you don't like basements cause they don't have them in FL. Sounds like a good place to live! ::yes:: Except for hurricanes...:)

My oil furnace heats my hot water. I don't get much hot water either. Since they fixed the furnace I hardly have enough to shower. I can see no place at the furnace to fix the temp for the water. I know one time they had turned it up for me. I should call them back but I guess I'm saving oil.

Hi all

Sorry I've been MIA. Feeling really cruddy with the tooth abcess--it finally came OUT! Cloudy brain from the pain meds, bummed out over politics, kids making me crazy...Getting ready for knee replacement surgery on Thursday. I get to go into NYC on the bus Wednesday night, right in the middle of a good old New Jersey slopstorm. Swell...

I've been reading on and off, just no energy at all to post. Thought I'd say hi before you all thought I'd dropped off the face of the earth.

I hope it doesn't snow, or if it does, it does it while I'm in the hospital or rehab. I do NOT want to have to deal with it when I get home--can't you just see me on crutches in the snow?

Hope y'al are fine. Keep safe if you do get the snow.

MSP, sure it will be funny one day. Long, long into the future. :rotfl2:

M&N, as much as I hate snow, I miss real snow storms. Just snow and not an inch of snow and then freezing rain and sleet. DD5 doesn't even know what a snow storm really is. I"m talking about roads closing, stores closing except the local 7-11 and WaWA's, and 30 minutes to get through the list of school closings. Going over the big giant hill by the city pool to sled with 100 other people there. We would stay for hours because it was always warm after a snow storm. Sad to think that by the time we move, she'll be 6 and not even remember a real snow storm.

Hey whgrn!!! Thanks for the recipe. Going to try it out next week since this weeks meals are already planned.

Don't worry about the snow/slop from the sky. Geesh, we're from the NE, we know how to deal with this. Now if we were Southerners, then we'd have to panic. :rotfl:

We'll all be thinking about you. Check in when you can and let us know how things went.

Hey Whgrn. I guess we should not be talking about snow storms when you need to get into NYC. We don't mean this time! My mom has had both her knees done. She was in her 70's. She really had no problems. The rehab isn't fun but the results are wonderful.
Racetrack----I've had Patrick since 2003 so I know the snow hasn't been that bad. I teased that he's chased the snow away. Of course having the 4wd doesn't mean I would be out there driving in it. I remember being snowed in. I couldn't shovel the snow any higher beside my car. We were talking about one of mom's bdays we could not get to her house until the next week and then, I had to stop in front of her house and she had to get over the piles to my car. I could not park because there were no extra spaces. People put out chairs to save the space they shoveled out. Her house has a space in the alley out back but it was not plowed. Can't say I miss that much snow. Maybe enough for a snowman though.

The last REALLY big snow storm I remember was in 96 the year DD12 was born. We lived with my parents at that time and I worked at grocery store. I was way too busy to grab anything for the next day before I left work. So when the snow pretty much ended, we decided to walk to 7-11. I was 8 months pregnant and the snow was over my knees. Took us over an hours to walk 3 blocks.

When I was a kid, my parents lived in a townhouse. My brother and I would shovel the snow so that we could sled in the front yard out to the street. Heck, we could stand on the pile of snow in the front yard and pull ourselves up to the little roof over the first floor and get into our bedrooms that way.

I just don't remember winters like this from when I was a kid. It was cold, sure, but now it just seems to be bitterly cold now. Is it just me?

It's called 'old age!' :rotfl2: My mom thinks we've had a lot more windy days than we've had before. So I think that makes the cold kind of go through you. I think we mind the dampness too. I haven't heard the weatherman say how the actual temps compare to before. But I think it did seem colder. We always used to have at least 1 good storm a year. I remember 1 year in January we were on a kind of cycle. I missed 3 out of 4 Fridays of school. I remember because Fridays was the day I had my small school that I was only at 1 day a week. Christmas vacation and Thanksgiving vacation also missed a Friday. I had them 4 out of 9 days for grades.

racetrack18kb, I hope you were able to take it easy today so you could get to feeling better. Sinus infection really are no fun.

DL55 & M&N :wave2: Looks like we are joining you in the cold weather. Prediction is for ice storms through Wednesday around here. Of course, our youngest DD is hoping for snow. Our oldest DD called in near panic today worried about what she would do if the electricity went out. Poor thing is a worrier like her father. Me, I just prefer to wait to see what happens and then worry about it. I'd be up a creek if it got really bad since I'd wait til the last minute to do anything. Oh well, guess that's one of the good reasons I keep DH around... so he can worry about that kind of stuff!

racetrack18kb, you are right the Southerners panic down here with a little ice. It isn't safe to drive out there so I think I will just stay inside...where it's warm!

M&N your closet organization sounds right up there with mine!
Sounds scary down in that basement! Good luck on winning the lottery!

My sister's princess congrads on getting back your shower head!!!

Sukie my itch has pretty much subsided. Now I just wish I knew which one of the plants caused it because I still have more to trim! Thank heavens it wasn't poison ivy. That stuff sends me to the emergency room!

Sounds like you are finding ways to win the war with the basement. I thought about some of the mildew resistant paint but what I found was recommended for walls that had not already been painted. I wish our builder would have mentioned some of the foreseeable problems before they happened! We had a round of media attention awhile back about black mold so I guess now I have mold-itis.

whgrn, sounds like you could use a hug so here's a BIG one from me!

I hope things settle down and your surgery goes well.

I got a new LCD monitor today. They come highly recommended from out computer tech for helping reduce headaches so I thought I should give it a try. When I first turned it on I thought I was going to have to make a trip to the eye doctor myself, which I really need to do anyway. It's kinda funky cause if you sit a little at an angle the screen looks slighty skewed. However, after sitting at it for awhile and adjusting the angle I think I am going to like it. Everything is so much BIGGER and BRIGHTER! My Disneyland desktop picture was already pretty but now it's really WOW!

Hey marie, are those LCD monitors like a flat screen? We have one of those big old monitors and I just hate it. I haven't bought a new monitor because I keep debating about a new computer completely.

Don't think I was knocking you down south. I know in a few years, we'll be the same way. :rotfl2: It's funny though because up here, even though we have lots of snow and ice, there are some who never know how to drive in it. People born and raised here still rush out to the grocery store for 2 weeks worth of supplies. Really, if I bought toilet paper everytime they said snow, I'd need a basement to store it all in. :rotfl2:

Well it did it while I was sleeping. I do love seeing it white---not dirty yet. It's not coming down now. It's south of me now so I guess Racetrack's not getting any either.

They did make a swipe down my street. The schools had a 2 hr delay. I would worry more about rush hour because it's to turn to sleet. I missed my milk run. I do have 2 cups plus yogart plus there's always hot chocolate! I really could drive if I needed it that bad but we do tease about getting milk and bread in.
And Racetrack---we sure don't want moldy tp! :rotfl2:

racetrack18kb, yes my new LCD monitor does look like a flat screen. So nice and takes up less space. The only thing I am not crazy about is that it is black. It looks like it sucked the dust particles in the room right to it! Oh well, most everything else around here has a layer of dust on it too... you just can't see it as well!

No offense taken. I am pretty thick skinned so you would have to do a lot worse than that! I have to be pretty tuff to live in this house with the 2 guys I've got. Believe me my own family can be way more brutal! Heck, they think throwing insults is a sport! Besides, there are some generalizations about some folk that are just pretty true and Southerners not being able to drive on ice is certainly true for the most part. (I got a little update from the local paper this morning and they had already had 2 major accidents late last night.) Now coming from certain people, and I do not mean you, some generalizations could be taken as insults I suppose... or you can just wear em like a badge of glory, which is what I choose to do. I am a proud Texan! God made us all special! :grouphug: We're just a little different and live in different places. Thank heavens or we would all be pretty crowded!

Anyway, that's enough deep thought this morning. It's way too early! :coffee: Gonna have to think up some simple conversation.

Morning M&N! I see you popped in to see if there was any excitement going on.

OH! I got an e-mail this morning that I can get tickets for Disney on Ice which will be coming to Fort Worth in March! I am so excited! Now if I can just get the stupid ticket search to find the seats I want I will be really happy. Have any of you ever been?

It's 30 degrees here so I bet some of you are freezin your butts off! Despite that I hope everyone has a great day!

Morning Ladies:

No snow here...thank goodness, we already have plenty.

Sad to think that by the time we move, she'll be 6 and not even remember a real snow storm.

Send her up here...we'll take her tobogganing and the kid's have a great snow fort in the backyard. Tunnels and everything. Mind you they don't close schools here for snow...has to be a MAJOR blizzard.

whgrn I expect you to recover wonderfully from your surgery. :flower3: ;)
mariezp Just to shock you. My mom said she used to "hide" in the poison ivy during hide and seek. :crazy2: She doesn't react. Apparently my sisters and I may have this same trait. Once we were playing in a vacant lot near my Grandmother's house. She went out to check for poison oak, didn't see any but broke out later. We were just fine. :confused3
I've never been in a serious snow storm, but had to delay getting back to SoCal one Christmas as I80 was closed through the Sierra Nevada's (It always closes when it snows, Californians can't drive in the snow either. :rolleyes2 )

Hey DL55---Just noticed your ticker. That's a cool one. I had the days counted down at school. I wasn't on the DIS then. I guess he's excited about it or you would not have the countdown. Is he content to mess around at home or is he the kind who has to get another job to keep busy? I thought I would have another part time job by now. Had no idea I would be subbing---but that's only 2 this year so far. But when I figured the cost of gas and the small hourly wage, it wasn't worth it at the time. Things may change. The time will go fast.
