Thanks Light!! I appreciate any help I can get. And I just clicked over to your TR and read the first few posts, Your older DS is just too cute for words!! Are they any pics of BL on the boards?

Thanks. No, no pics of BL. Just never really got around to it.

Hi all,

I just wanted to pop on and say hello. I am not staying on tonight, but was thinking of all you guys so wanted to come on and say hey.

:goodvibes
:wave2: Good to see you!

Sounds like the Lighttech house hold is healthy.
.

:rolleyes2 I wish we were. DH is almost better, and DS has kicked the fever, but BL, DS and I are all fighting a wicked head cold... I don't think we've all been healthy at the same time in months. So far, this is bearable, but I really want someone to just drill a teeny tiny whole in my head to let out all the pressure. :faint: I'm also keeping a close eye on BL w/ his cough. Hopefully it won't develop into anything else.

We are hearing at work that after this quarter, that the "powers that be" will be looking to try to get all departments to go to a 40 hrs. At first they want to try a "4-10hr" day. They also said that they will try not to lay anybody off. We will be having an all-hands meeting in Feb. maybe the news will haved changed.
Good luck w/ work. I'm dealing w/ schedule changes right now too. I've worked 4 10's for a while, but they are changing my hours. It can definitely be stressful. Good news on the good faith w/ layoff though... its so scary right now.
Sukie - Its a bummer to get your hours changed. However I am happy to hear that there are no lay-offs for you. :thumbsup2 We just try to make it through each day here. Hoping to miss the ax. Its getting so that when DH comes home and says "Guess what.." my mind immediately goes to "Oh no... you lost your job today." :scared: Sad, I know but it seems so many people we know are losing their jobs. I just thank God for every day we make it through.

Have a great day everyone!
Like I said above... Scary times right now. Good luck to you and DH. Hang in there. Its so tough to be stressed like that each day.

OK, to everyone else... Chat later. I need to spend a little time w/ my finances here. We're looking at refinancing our mortgage and I'm currently kicking myself b/c the rates jumped this week. I know I should have locked in last week, but its just too big of a decision for me to make so quickly! So, now I don't know whether to jump in now, wait it out, or, if its even worth it... the rates went up almost a full point here!

Sadly no, my family took me out to eat, but I hadn't updated my license that day, so I was to afraid to try and order a drink. I was afraid they wouldn't serve me and I would look stupid!!!!

I'm so old that they didn't have special licenses for those under 21. People had to read your DOB and figure it out.
Hi Pepperw23 :wave2:
M&N I still giggle after a double Margarita. :joker:
Sukie How many hours do you work? Isn't a 40 hour week a normal full time position? :scratchin

I wonder if they serve those in Hershey? Do they put olives in them? That's what I think of when you say martini.

No they definitely do not have olives in them. Some fancy places put chocolate shaving or a mini candy bar in them.

WHAT A WEEK!!!!

I love the new job! and they gave me back my shower heads :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: I hope you are all having a great night!

Hey Guys,
I just wanted ya'll to know that I have signed up over at the other site - I spent a nice time visiting with Dreamin' the other night and she really misses us. It is a nice place and I really hope you will check it out.:thumbsup2

Wendy. I can't find the post with your phone#. I am trying to make sure that I get all of ya'll contacts.

:goodvibes

Golly...not a single TKer here today to help me celebrate my escape from the closet from HELL?
popout-1.gif
I hope nobody else decided to clean their closet today too and ended up with a worser fate than I did!

It all started out as a simple plan to straighten up my closet but turned into an all day project! My closet space is very limited and poorly arranged so I was planning on moving a cabinet full of my shoes around to the back of the closet so I could actually get to my clothes easier. (did I mention that I HATE my closet?) Anyway, I got the cabinet pulled out to move and the back of it was covered in mildew or mold or something! AAAAAARGH! Soooo.... now what to do? Obviously the darn cabinet cannot stay in the closet so we had to drag it all through the house to a temporary location until I can get it cleaned up and find a new place for it. (Can you believe DH asks if I want to throw it out and burn it? It's an antique dear! :sad2: ) In the meantime I have pulled all my dresses out of the closet and piled everything that was laying around in the closet on top of the bed and temporarily filled a 45 gallon bag up with shoes. I knew it was bad in there but I had no idea things were in there MULTIPLYING! I have no idea how one person could have collected so many clothes!

Well, now with the cabinet gone I have nowhere to put all the shoes and I will have to hang another closet rod in order to hang all the dresses back in the closet because I pulled the old one down thinking that it was going to be a simple project. I am plumb tuckered out and probably will not even want to look into my closet for another month. Lord help me if I want to wear something besides my sneakers! It will take me 30 minutes to find a matching pair from the bag!

So gals, fess up. Can I be the only one who has a nightmare in their closet?

I :worship: you for getting into your closet. This is exactly why I hate doing those "simple" chores-they turn into giant messes.

I have a friend that is a professional organizer and she always offers to 'do' my closet for me but I am too ashamed of how I have let it get out of control.

I thought you might find this funny- I took a screen shot of the page when I was reading your post-Check out the ad above it.:rotfl2: Hmmmm is someone trying to tell us something?

That is so funny! They must have heard the cries from the depths of my closet! Actually, they were more like giggles of a lunatic as I was thinking how much I was feeling like a magician who kept pulling hankies from his sleeve. I had no idea I could get so many clothes in that closet.

I would like to lay blame for the deplorable state of my closet on the evil culprit responsible for the insanity that comes over me... the cruel little gene that continues to makes me gain weight. After all, you can't get rid of everything that's too small because SOMEDAY you just might lose some weight and be able to wear those clothes, ya know what I mean?

Do any of you who live up north happen to have a basement? Anyone anywhere???? We built an earth shelter home about 5 years ago and the problem of too much moisture in the air has really begun to surface, as is evident from the moldy cabinet. We run dehumidifiers pretty regularly to help pull some of it out of the air but I just wonder if anyone around here might have any other tips? I love our house, especially during tornado season, but this really is a pain in the neck.

Basements-The only thing DH misses from being a Yankee. DD thinks they are cool when she goes up to visit his family.
You know what they call basements this close to the Gulf? Indoor Pools.:)

That evil culprit lives here too-in the fridge and wine rack:crazy2: . He really plays havoc on my closet. But he's doing it to DH too so I guess I am not alone.

Good afternoon ladies. We finally got the new tires installed this morning on my car. I can't believe how long it took. What a nightmare it was. So many choices to choose from and the prices , unbelieveable. Yesterday, we were suppose to be getting a new generator but they haven't come in yet. Hopefully no more power failures for us until we can get one. We stopped at Home Depot to get squirrel food and for my DH to spend his Christmas money on two new levels. Isn't that so exciting? :lmao: We also have been getting wild turkeys coming in to eat the food that the squirrels drop. Do any of you folks have turkeys?

DL55~ My DH has been with this manufactor for 34yrs. When he was hired it was a 45hr. work week. Then like other companies the stock holders wanted more money, so you know the rest of the story.

MSP~ It's great that you like your new job. WOW~finally a hot shower.

mariezp~ yep :rotfl2: Here is magic just for you pixiedust: I think that all of ours look the same way. So don't be

:wave2: I hope everyone else is having a good Sunday.

Chat later

mariezp Cleaning the closet? :faint: Who knows what's in the back of mine. :scared: Can't help you with basements or humidity, don't have either.

Sukie Sorry about the loss of hours but maybe after 34 years it may be time for your DH to slow down and smell the roses anyway. :flower3: :goodvibes
Hi Bopsmom :wave2:

Happy Sunday All!

Kinda quiet here. I expected multiple pages when I returned. Someone's slacking.
My family has the stomach flu. :crazy2: Thank God we have more than 1 bathroom is all I can say. :rotfl: We're on a wonderful diet of crackers, 7-up and bananas. I just LOVE winter - NOT!!!!

Marie - We have a basement. Couldn't do w/o one. The only problem is the basement becomes the closet from hell up north. Anything and everything gets put down there and piled high. We're not one of those neat families who has their basement finished into living space either. So if we didn't have a basement my closets would probably be a lot like yours.
As for moisture, we don't have much problem in the winter & fall. Too dry. But during the summer we run our dehumidifier all the time. Really helps a lot.

Sukie - We have wild turkeys here. Not many in our backyard because we don't leave food out - even bird food. While its nice to see birds in winter, it attracks too many other verman - mice, chipmonks, etc. The fields around my house have turkeys roaming around. Nice to see from a distance.

Hope everyone else is feeling healthy now. :flower3:

Glad you got the tires-I blew one 2 weeks ago-PITA!

We don't have turkeys-that would be cool but, they were 'hunted out' before we moved here.
We have whistling ducks http://www.wildtexas.com/wildguides/whistlingduck.php ,
javelinas--check this out-have a 300+pounder in your back yard-you can smell them before you see them:thumbsup2 http://www.tamuk.edu/about/javelina/
deer, racoons and the stray cougar now and again.
Come March the Copperhead nests will hatch and I have to carry a mesaluna around as I go through my gardens. :lmao:
The skunks haven't come back so far since I let the armadillo stay this year and the neighbor's cat scared all the bunnies.

You do know my backyard is a registered

Sometimes I wonder why we did that.:rotfl2::confused3 seemed like a good idea at the time.
We really like the wildlife(we like to boogie :dance3:-I wish we did have more.

Hi Bopsmom :wave2:

Hey!:wave2:

Hi all:

Don't really have a basement...since my house is around 130 years old it's more like a cellar. Don't know what I'd do without it though...whenever I don't know what to do with something...down it goes. :thumbsup2

Got this email today that I thought was kinda cute:

Kitchen Wisdom

Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of an ice cream cone
to prevent ice cream drips.

Just suck the ice cream out of the bottom of the cone, for
Pete's sake! You are probably lying on the couch with your feet
up eating it anyway!

To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple in the bag with
the potatoes.

Buy Hungry Jack mashed potato mix. Keeps in the pantry for up
to a year.

When a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking pan, use a bit
of the dry cake mix instead and there won't be any white mess on
the outside of the cake.

Go to the bakery! Hell, they'll even decorate it for you!

If you accidentally over-salt a dish while it's still cooking,
drop in a peeled potato and it will absorb the excess salt for
an instant 'fix-me-up.'

If you over-salt a dish while you are cooking, that's too bad.
Please recite with me the real woman's motto: 'I made it, you
will eat it and I don't care how bad it tastes!'

Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator
and it will keep for weeks.

Celery? Never heard of it!

Brush some beaten egg white over pie crust before baking to
yield a beautiful glossy finish.

The Mrs. Smith frozen pie directions do not include brushing egg
whites over the crust, so I don't.

Cure for headaches: take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on
your forehead. The throbbing will go away.

Take a lime, mix it with tequila, chill and drink! All your
pains go away!

If you have a problem opening jars, try using latex dish washing
gloves. They give a non-slip grip that makes opening jars easy.

Go ask that very cute neighbor if he can open it for you.

Don't throw out all that leftover wine. Freeze into ice cubes
for future use in casseroles and sauces.

Leftover wine??????????? HELLO!!!!!!!

Lastly, if you don't forward this to 1 of your friends within
the next 5 minutes your belly button will unscrew and your butt
will fall off.

Really.... It's true! Have I ever lied to you?

Good evening ladies!

Wow, it's been a while since I've been on here.

I wonder how Magikitty is doing?

D&D: I hope your family feels better soon. I hope it's atleast not coming out both ends. Been there, done that! Pure hell! Thank the good lord for garbage cans when that happens.

mariezp: Just went through what you did but it was my baking cupboard. I was making dough for sugar cookies and had almost all the flour mixed in before I realized that there was mold growing in it.:crazy2: I had to throw out the dough and take my whole cupboard apart so I could wash it down with bleach to kill the mold and then go through all the ingrediants I had stored in there to see if they were still good. Took me a good day to do it. Who knew. :confused3

I have a basement that is half finished but it gets really wet in the spring and summer. We have a sump-pump to keep the water to a minimum but it can still get slimy when we have humid days. I've always wanted a really nice finished basement where you can have a playroom for the kids but that is just not in the cards.

BKMETV: So true, so true!

Hi Bopsmom and DL55!:wave2:

Thanks everybody! I'm not feeling so alone anymore about having a closet gone out of control. I did start washing the moldy cabinet down today but then got off on some other tangent.

So for those of you who answered about the basement, is mold just something you learn to live with? DH teased me and said there was even a little fern growing back there. YIKES! It kinds creeps me out thinking there is slimy, grimy stuff possibly growing behind every piece of furniture that is up against a wall.

:rotfl2: Bopsmom, I guess you would have to move further inland to have yourself a basement. Me, I'm not quite sure if I am feeling like they are worth it at the moment. :rolleyes2
What's a mesaluna? Must be something mean to get rid of those snakes. Do you happen to have any cats? They are very good for keeping away snakes! Just ask my DH. He got POed at me one year because our cat population had exploded out of control and he had me get rid of every cat we had outside. In a matter of 2 weeks we found 7 copperheads! As soon as we got some cats back we quit seeing snakes again. He has since then decided that cats are a necessity outside. Anyway, that's cool that your yard rates as a habitat!

Sukie hurray for the new tires! Now good luck getting the new generator.
We have a few turkey every now and then but not many. We do have squirrels..... and possums, raccoons, skunks, deer, coyotes, fox, armadillos, an occasional bobcat and my DH says that we have wild hogs moving into our area.

Hi DL55!

D&DDisney, I hope everyone at your house is feeling better. It stinks when the whole family is sick. I've done the crackers and 7-up but didn't know bananas were good for sick tummys. You learn something new everyday!

BKMETV I loved your Kitchen Wisdom ditty. I love the last part about the belly button!

Pikester I remember you telling us about the cookie making fiasco. Did the cabinet clean back up okay? And did you ever get to make those cookies?

I went outside this afternoon to wait for the guy to bring hay today. While I was outside I piddled around and tidied up a bit by cutting down some plants that had died back for the winter. I cut back some cannas, lantana and honeysuckle. After the guy delivered the hay I came back in and went about my regular routine. As we were eating supper and watching tv I started itching... and itching... and itching. Evidently I must be allergic to one of the plants or the hay or something about wiping down that moldy cabinet. Seems like it's always something. :sad2:

Morning!!! I see it's been slow around here. I've got a wicked sinus infection that's been kicking my butt. Been trying to take it easy so it doesn't get any worse.

Hope you all have a great day!!!

Catch ya later!!!

D&DDisney Hope everyone is feeling better. :flower3:
raetrack18kb :flower3:
BKMETV Love those homemaker tips. :rotfl2:
:wave2: to Pikester, Bopsmom, Sukie, mariezp

So gals, fess up. Can I be the only one who has a nightmare in their closet?

I feel your pain. I kept most of my summer clothes at mom's. She hasn't yelled yet. The reat of my bedroom closet is a mess. Much of it is on the extra bed. I did try and get rid of some stuff...shoes and handbags. I'm in my fattest sizes right now but really need to hold on to 2 sizes down. (Wishful thinking?) The closet in my extra bedroom is mostly empty because I have the sweeper and other stuff on the floor. The hall closet is the best...except for the floor. I hust stuffed things in it to hide it. I did get a good idea from the DIS for the door. I got a shoe holder and hung it inside and put extra soap, deoderant, bandaides, etc in the pockets. It does help.

WHAT A WEEK!!!!

I love the new job! and they gave me back my shower heads :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: I hope you are all having a great night!

:cheer2: You fought the law and won!!!

Kitchen Wisdom

:rotfl2: loved it!

As far as basements go. I'm having problems with water coming in the walls. I need to et it checked. Someone said maybe just get some kind of waterproffing painted on the walls. I don't get a flood-just a srteam. So my basement is damp. I have no heat down there. I have a dehumidifier but it freezes up when temp gets below 55??? So it can't work now. I have lots of stuff down there. Mostly in plastic bins and shelves but not all. I have 3 little windows where the ground stops but it's dark without lights. It was divided into 3 rooms but no good walls. I really don't like it there. The washer hook up is down there but I don't have a washer. When I win the lottery, I'm adding on to my house but not the basement. I really don't need to be the big winner. I would really settle for 50,000 or more. :thumbsup2
