Four-mer TKers...4 one, 4 all, 4 ever

I went to college ages ago! My niece and nephew go there now, so its sort of a legacy! I majored in biology and art history. I was considering getting my masters in art history, but my senior thesis advisor warned me about the hazards to the pressure of getting published, getting tenure, etc--and he was a professor at Cornell too! I took a year off after graduating to figure out my plans and I went to medical school after that.

I lived in the dorm for two years and my sophomore year was my best one ever! We just had too much stuff and too much going on for a third year in a dorm, so we as a collective moved off campus. We found three houses within a block of each other, so it was sort of an extended dorm life!

My BF definitely doesn't understand the Dis board thing, but he's sure glad I read about so much great stuff on here! We're both really budget conscious and when I can find out about how to save at Disney, he's super happy about it! On the other hand, I'm always convinced that we can do Disney "cheaply" every year!

I am 99% sure that this year is going to be my last in the dorms. I did one as a resident and am now finishing up my second as an RA, so I have been there done that. DBF and I are looking to get an apartment with a close friend.
The plan is to find one that will let me get a kitty:cool1: I love when people are asking me if I am really ready for the responsibility of a cat. Ummmmm I have 35 girls on my floor and a building of about 340 residents that I "babysit" I think the cat will be ok..... I even have a list of things that college student do that cats don't :

1) drink too much
2) do drugs
3) drink too much or take too many drugs leading to the hospital
4) get into fights with their roommates
5) get into fights with their boyfriend
6) get into fights that end up in the hall at 12:30 when I have a final at 8
7) come into my room crying

it is a work in progress, but I am proud of it. Don't get me wrong I don't mind dealing with these things, and I love my job, but after 2 years I think I might just be ready to move on.

HA HA HA! You are so totally right....if you can be an RA and last the year, you can handle anything! At least the cat listens to you 50% of the time--better odds than a bunch of college kids on any given day!

Btw...I'm really close to my college-nephew, and while I love him to pieces, I cannot believe how stupid he can be when he's surrounded by his peers! THe things that college kids do now....WOW is all I have to say. I mean, in my day, there were things being done also, but not nearly on the same expansive scale it seems to be today.

So it is a running joke to my building's staff....... I am a germphobe big time, and one of my girls had too much to drink and ended up having to go to the hospital, not before throwing up IN MY HAND. So she is now known as the girl that threw up in little Beth's hand! Yea she is horrified that it happened, and was pressured into drinking that much. I am not saying that I haven't made some bad choices, but for the love of all that is good I want to take some of these kids and just look at them and say What are you thinking?! My rule of thumb is if I wouldn't tell my mum I did it, then I shouldn't be doing it!!!

:rotfl2: I wish I had known your rule of thumb years ago! But I completely agree with it! We've all done some--AHEM--questionable things, but some people just don't know when to draw the line!

So sorry someone threw up on your hand! If it makes you feel any better, I think I've been covered in every sort of body fluid at one point in my life. It never gets any easier, but you just kinda start to laugh about it after a while. (I've also seemed to lose my sense of smell at some point, so that helps too!)

I was not laughing but the RA on duty who is a close friend was laughing so hard I thought she would tinkle in her pants ( this is part of the reason the story is so funny : I was NOT even on duty)........... At this point I can laugh at it. She does the very best impression of me and it makes me laugh so hard. Sometimes the best stories come from the most unlikely places. I am so glad I hoped on this thread everyone here is soooo nice

yes, thankfully the tummy is doing much better. Even managed to have most of breakfast and some fruit this afternoon. Even got in the shower. It seems there's a bug going around, a lot of people have told me they had the same thing happen to them. So be careful!

I have about three tons of laundry calling me to sort them, so I'll be heading off here for a bit. Be back later though!

Evening All,
Just spent the day at one of those "Starving Artists" shows, looking for a nice painting for above the fireplace. Quite interesting. Found a pic we liked.

:wave2: Princess! Thanks for sharing your bio.

Kitty - Hope you're feeling better. Stomach bugs are awful! I know what you mean about finding good underwear. Hard to find something nice that also doesn't floss your backside.

Lighttech - Are you feeling tired and run down too? Never had mono but the doc thought I might when I was a teen. In your case, I'd guess its strepp if your still up and about doing work. My sister had it and it really wipes you out. Fingers crossed for strepp or something viral.

Whgrn - Thanks for sharing your pics. Those workout clothes look awsome. :thumbsup2

Sukie - My grill is a standard Webber kettle. I love cooking on charcoal - not propane or gas. I also don't use lighter fluid. I use an electric starter. Keeps meat tasting good with no chemical after taste.

Gotta go make dinner. Hi to everyone else I missed.

My mother just called me about an hour ago. Her only living brother, last living relative just passed away this afternoon. I had only met him once, so it isn't the greatest loss for me. However I am looking into flights for her to get out to the funeral, does anyone know if the airlines give a discount for funerals and what we need to prove it?

Good evening all. What a way to start this chat. The "undies" that I get are made by Vassarette. You are right in that they seem to be the most comfortable and look decent at the same time. The style that I get are called "hikini". They fit high on the leg and sit just below the belly button. I used to wear what my DH call's "Granny panties" the white cotton one's from "Fruit of the loom". Well after all I am a granny. :rotfl2:

MagiKitty: If I had 3 tons of laundry to do I would have an upset tummy too. The collage's that I put together are in picture frames. The bigger the frame the better they seem to come out. I take the pictures that I plan to use and cut the subjects out and put them in an random order with stickers, and other embellishments. I also use ribbons, all kinds of trim and even appliques. It is hard to explain, however it looks better then it sounds.

My sister's princess : My friend's daughter was a RA when she was in college. Is there some kind of credits that you can get?

I think I have selected all of my Disney pictures off of the PhotoPass. I still have a few more days in case I change my mind.

Chat later.

MSP...I'm sorry for your loss! In my experience, we were able to get a price adjustment for a bereavement rate afterwards. In other words, we paid full price for a flight, then submitted paperwork after, I think a copy of the death certificate, and had the money returned to us. I think you just need to call the airline and ask for their policy. I believe most airlines do have a bereavement policy. I hope this helps you a little bit.

Sukie, do you change the collages, or just add to the ones already on display? I wish I were more crafty-inclined. But then again, I can barely control the chaos I already have in my life. No cutting and arranging of any sort here.

That apparently also applies to laundry. Its still sitting unsorted. I got distracted looking for travel sized toiletries for my trip. I take a shower in Seoul, so I make sure to bring my own shower stuff. They do have dispensers in the private rooms, but they're in Korean and I can't read how to use them!:rotfl2:

Thank you so much.

Just checked in a skimmed quick.

MSP - I had so many funny little things from you I wanted to respond to. And, by the way, I'm very impressed w/ your maturity. But, the last post seems the most imp't. Most airlines do have a bereavement policy. And I believe Kitty is right, you need a copy of the death certificate. Just call the airlines direct, you should be able to speak with someone who can help.
Thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

Kitty - Glad you are feeling better.

D&D - Thanks!

And, thanks to everybody for the good wishes. Tests should be back tomorrow... keep your fingers crossed for nothing major! (Strep I can deal with!)

Oh - almost forgot - Whgrn YOU'RE GORGEOUS!!! ;)

Ok, taking doc's advice and getting as much sleep as I can... 9pm bedtime for me!
'Night all.

oh, I shop at all of those stores! I'm on the cusp of a size 14 there, but I can get into "regular" size 14/16 depending on the store, so I just look at it as twice the number of stores I can shop in!

My issue is that for some reason the manufacturers feel that if you're Plus-size, you must also be six feet tall! Pants are always so so long on me. Good thing I like to wear heeled boots and cute shoes!

You are SO right! I can't get over how tall they expect plus size girls to be! Maybe they're just used to the men's "Big and Tall" concept? Some places do have Women's Petite sizes, but it's rare. And Misses Petites tend to be miniature versions of clothes, as if becuase you are short you are automatically smaller. Ummm, if I'm a size 14, my height should not matter. A 14 petite should fit me the same as a 14 regular, except for length. But it doesn't. Grrrr!!

:lmao: :lmao: Ah, from the perspective of one who knows!! I was an RA for a year too, and I swear I saw it all. From homesick Freshmen, to abusive boyfriends, to roommate brawls, to a pregnant sophomore (whose mother blamed ME for not "taking better care of" her daughter!!) Then I spent 7 years as a volunteer on the first aid squad, and made countless trips to the local college campus to pick up drunks. Like MK, I've had every imagineable body fluid spewed on me. By the time I was a mother, it was old hat!

So sorry for your loss. Most airline do have bereavement fares, but I don't know how it works or what you have to prove. I'd say call the airline and see what they can do for you.

My toothache is getting worse. MUCH worse. It's bad enough now that I am actually going to give in and take a Percocet. It's throbbing in my mouth! Something tells me I'm not going to get much sleep tonite. And I have to get up at 7 becuase the kids go back to school. UGH!

Oh - almost forgot - Whgrn YOU'RE GORGEOUS!!! ;)

Says the pot to the kettle! I should look as good as you! But thanks for the compliment.

Hope it's strep, I'll be waiting to hear from you tomorrow!

Thank you for the advice and prayers, and please feel free to say lots of funny things, including making fun of anything I have said!

I am sorry to hear about your tooth! I have some great stories, I will humor you all with them over time I am sure......... Right now we don't know when we would need to travel, so I am going to hold off on calling anyone. I just wanted to know if anyone knew anything. I don't want my mother to have to worry about that

Hey everyone!!!! The kids go back to school tomorrow!!!! :woohoo: I need a break from the bickering. Having 4 kids who do not like the cold at all just makes it worse. My 2 oldest were outside today and after 1/2 hour came in complaining it's too coooollllddd. It had to be around 40 today and they still couldn't stand it.

MSP, I'm so sorry for your loss. I don't know anything about the bereavement fares, sorry. I agree with what others have said, you seem to be a very level-headed mature young woman. I'm so glad you decided to join us here.

lighttech, keeping my fingers crossed for you. I hope you get good news tomorrow.

D&DDisney, what is an electric starter for your charcoal grill? We have a gas grill now because I can't stand the after taste from the lighter fluid. I'd love to be able to go back to charcoal.

Magikitty, I'm so glad you're feeling better. DD5 just had a slight stomach bug and it was horrible. And of course, DD7 caught some awful cold. We thought she had pink-eye but thankfully it was just the cold aggravating her eyes.

whgrn, sorry about the tooth. I hope you're able to see the dentist really quick.

It has been surreal around here. Our family has almost been normal, or at least as normal as we can be. I think this has been the best holiday we've had in years (even if the kids did drive me crazy :lmao: ) I just want to thank you all for listening to me when the times have been bad, very bad. I don't know how I would have gotten through it all without you all. :grouphug:
