Found old safe in my basement

Well, the OP can probably advertize for an experienced safe craker in Craigslist, with the description: No questions asked for person who opens safe. Cash paid. I'm sure she might get a few people people who can open that thing in 15 minutes.

OP, with the hinges sawed off now. Be careful when you do get the door open, as it's probably so heavy, it may fall on a foot as it won't just swing open now.

But then she would have to 'flashy-thing' the person so they forget where she lives. Oh man could you imagine that door falling!

Have been still looking. However, my beeper is going off like crazy. Ike medical evacuees being transfered to Cinci. Parts of S.Indiana under alert (and before the flames start about an ocean in the Ohio River Valley-anytime a storm hits the gulf...water pushed up Mississippi...pushed into Ohio River...pushed into the small rivers creeks...they all get the possibility of indoor swimming pools and mobile homes becoming houseboats-we have 4 seasons-ice storm floods, spring floods, draught, hurricane related floods. So.IN. get the news on, please!!!!!!)

Hello to all my fellow Rochesterians!!

I don't know if I stated it earlier but my husband used a heavy jack and not sure what else to get the thing moved. And yes, he did cut the hinges. Please forgive me all safe worshipers. I just can't stand it. I really have no use for the safe itself. I would like to possibly use the door of it for some sort of decoration and I would love to know the history but I need to know what is in it!!!!

I've been updating my husband about this, and he has a suggestion/theory. He thinks that the door is rusted shut, and suggests spraying WD-40 all around the seam of the door and then letting it sit for a while. Then try hitting it with something like a rubber mallet to jar it loose or try prying it with a crowbar.

(No clue if it will work, of course, but he wanted me to pass the suggestion along!)

Just wanted to add that FIL was here tonight and I asked him how they got that old safe open (see my earlier post). He told me that nothing worked, so they finally dropped it out of the 3rd floor window into a dumpster below. That did it!!

oh come on!!!!!!!!!! Don't freak me out!! I have to live in this house with the safe and that orb is weird!!!!

The WD40 idea is a good one. If it works, then the safe is definately empty. I talked to my brotherinlaw tonight and he is going to come over on his lunch break tomorrow at noon and look at it to see what he thinks the plan of attack should be...
