Tomorrow we pick up two 8 week old kittens to foster. The first adoption clinic is Sunday, so we may not have them long. Some of you might remember that we lost our 18 year old cat this summer, so it's been awhile since we had a "baby" in the house. I have their cage all set up, but I'm betting they won't be there much LOL. I can't wait to coddle them!

OMGoodness..it's been awhile since I've had babies in the house. They think my hamper (I've got them in the large bathroom for now) is a tree, nothing is allowed on the sink, and kitty litter is to jump in and scatter. Of course that water must be for putting paws in, and swirling! What fun. They finally tired themselves out. The little one is just perfect for the bigger one to use as a pillow!

How cool!

Can you report back on how it is? I've considered it but I'm always afraid that giving them up again will be too hard.

I told my friend who suggested it, that if I keep those two kittens, I'll blame her, and she assured me I won't because then I won't have room to foster again. This was a real emergency..she's fostering 6!

They've both been adopted to great homes! Looking forward to the next foster babies! What a great way to enjoy kittens, and get a great feeling inside!

Your black cat looks exactly like my little Coco. She's 5 months old. They almost look like they could be related! When I saw the post, I thought I was looking right at her in your pic.

:cat:

Awesome! You are lucky that they got adopted so fast, too. We had 2 rescue kittens this spring that we adopted out, and I still miss them. I hope that you get your next foster kittens soon!

Yay for new homes! We adopted a kitten a few weeks ago as a companion for our big kitty. Her mother was abandoned--pregnant--on a vet tech's doorstep. She's a hilarious little thing; kitten antics are a riot.

Thank you for fostering them!

If I fostered kittens, I'd end up owning many, many cats!

Such sweet faces though. Belly rubs from me too!

That is a wonderful thing to do! I would like to foster a kitty or doggy, but I don't think I would be able to give them up.
BTW, the tabby looks like my Sassy (look at the kitty in my siggy)

I thought it would be hard, but you know, I was at the adoption (I actually was brave and nixed one of the people who wanted to adopt..her daughter wasn't very nice to the kitten when her mom wasn't watching), and I'm tickeled at their new homes. I was at Petsmart cleaning cages today, and one of the new dads, brought in the cage he borrowed, and he says they just love him. He was buying more "stuff" today, too LOL.
I figure if I give them up, I can save some more. Got a call today to foster a mama and her three babies, but they will be harder to place (they are feluke positive, but not showing any signs) and my dil and son are coming for Thanksgiving from overseas and staying with us, and she is terrified of cats. Hopefully they found another home.
It was so much fun. When Paco was the last to be adopted, I did spoil him his night alone. He got free reign of the house. He was into everything, then fell asleep in my lap. Yep, I think he likes Lifetime.

That's a great thing for you to do! I love kittens! We're allergic though.

Awwww...thanks so much for doing this for the kitties! :)

We were just at our local Humane Society (they are affiliated with Pet Smart) on sunday and the volunteers do such a great job with the animals.

We lost one of our girls last month - Allie was 17 and we miss her terribly - we still have her sister, Schmoo, same age. We are considering getting two more girls but not sure if we want to go for kittens or older (couple years) cats. On sunday the shelter is getting in some kittens that are currently at a foster home. We shall see....

Oh, drive over to our area. I have the perfect two cats for you. Both under a year, both already had kitties and are spayed. Both awesome lap cats, and looking for a good home. One gray, with the greenest eyes..they just look into yours with so much trust. The other white, that just loves to play..with anything handy. I hope they'll have found homes when I go back Thursday evening with a friends foster kitties that will be up for adoption. It's so hard to not take them all home!

DH and our two grands went over to Petsmart tonight to pick up two more potential adoptees..I'll post a pic tomorrow. They are just beautiful. Long haired this time...and orange and white and a mix color. About 3-4 months, up for adoption on Saturday. Grands have been "socializing" them all evening.

I have an aunt in TN who fosters dogs and cats all the time in addition to her own 3 cats and 5 dogs! Once she had 4 puppies to care for.
She takes em really young. She has a kitten that she had to bottle feed because it was to young to eat food. She would get up in the middle of the night to bottle feed it when it cried (meowed) just like a real baby!! It's hard work but she just loves animals so it's a labor of love for her. :flower:

Those kittens are just adorable. :goodvibes

Bless you for caring about helpless little creatures. I'm a cat lover and would foster, too, however we already have three cats who wouldn't appreciate others in their domain. They could even get upset and run away. The best we can do is make contributions to the local animal shelter.
Our most recent addition was a tiny little kitten that was barely 3 weeks old. Someone found him and couldn't keep him and gave him to us. It was such a coincidence. We had just lost a precious pet exactly one month prior to getting the new baby. Both were black and white males. Seems the new kitty was sent to us (the other kitty had cancer and had to be put to sleep, we had him 16 years). I bottle fed the new kitty for about two weeks (he didn't have teeth). He's now about 5 months old, but looks like a full-grown cat. I mean, this thing's huge! And fluffy, with long hair! He's still growing, so I wonder what he'll be like full-grown. Only thing is, he thinks I'm his momma. He's fully weaned, but he still wants to suckle my shirt. As soon as I pick him up he starts kneading and sucking my shirt. I try giving him food or water when he does this, but he's not hungry, its just a bonding thing. I don't have the heart to push him away. However, I found a way to stop him--he hates my perfume (Beautiful). If I wear that, he just looks confused and doesn't try to "suck shirt". Such a cutie!

The only thing cuter than a kitten is...2 kittens!!! :goodvibes
They are so entertaining...who needs TV?
You have a kind heart!!! :)

We've got a break from kittens right now, since in our area, few strays are born during the winter. We ended up our fostering year with two of the most pathetic kittens you ever want to see. They were found together, and the older one was definately the protector. The older had a broken nose, and he was so frightened of my broom, I suspect he got hit with something like that. He was thin and very wary of us...for about 5 minutes, til he discovered my lap. The younger one was just a mess, Weighed next to nothing, and when flea bathed, the water ran red, he had been so bitten. We weren't sure if we were going to bring this one around (it wasn't for lack of love, both from Otis, the larger cat who stuck like glue to make sure no harm came to Petey) and me..oh, I lost my heart on this one. It was a scrawny long haired cat, with runny eyes, and pitaful meow. I worked and did my housework with this baby cuddled into my neck, and as soon as I sat, with Otis on my lap. Petey flourished! He learned to trust us, ate like a horse (while Otis patiently stood by and waited for his turn..two bowls didn't work, cause Petey wanted them both...so afraid he wasn't going to get another meal). He grew, his hair filled in, he was just beautiful, and Otis' eye healed, he put on weight, and finally after 4 weeks were ready for adoption. Oh, that was heartbreaking. I didn't want them to be put on display, so their pics went on the internet (the place I foster for has a site) and we fielded calls, until the perfect home came along. Petey and Otis went home with two kids (I got visitation rights for this one!) and they just love their new home. My nose was a little out of joint..for a minute there I forget they were just cats, and love whoever loves and feeds them. Their affection switched, just like that. I'm bawling my eyes out, going around the house saying, I should have kept them..and the two of them, don't give me another thought! I'm anxious for spring and new babies, but in my heart, there will always be a place for Otis and Petey.
