We are thinking of staying in the cabins at Fort Wildnerness. I was wondering what they were like. Has anyone stayed here? We love camping and come from an area where the outdoors are a big part of our life (Lake Tahoe, NV). The cabins aren't prices too badly and they have kitchens, etc.

The other place we are considering is the POP and getting 2 rooms (one for my DD6 and DD9 to share, one for hubbie and me). This would be a little cheaper than FWL, but we wouldn't have the kitchen. We are planning on donig the Disney Dining with the MYW tickets with either place.

Any advice or opinions are greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks,

We stayed at FW a few years back and absolutely loved the experience. We ate breakfast at the cabin and a few dinners. If your family loves the outdoors they will definetly like the cabins. We rented bikes, golf cart etc. The campfiore singa long was great too. The boat to MK is a nice treat. The seperate bedroom, which has a double bed and two bunk beds was nice during the day or at night when kido's went to sleep. There is also a comfortable murphy bed double size in the living room. If you really don't need 2 bathrooms the cabins are a great thing. Hope you enjoy.

i would go with a cabin at Ft. Wilderness. from what i understand, DW won't guarantee connecting rooms at Pop, or any resort, except in some specific situations. i wouldn't want to be stuck having to split up into to separate rooms. the cabins sound like they would have plenty of space for your family, and it sounds like there is so much to do there! we're trying out the cabins in january, and our DD's are so excited about it!

have fun whatever you choose!!

I stayed in them when I was younger, before they were "cabins". In reality they are smaller mobile homes.

They were nice as it had a full bathroom like you would have in your house and a living room and bedroom and such. Nice if you know you aren't going to be in the parks all the time. My stepdad rented the golfcart for the week and we did a lot of things around the campground.

I do want to try them out again.

We stayed in a cabin in 2002 and LOVED it! We had three adults and 2 kids and it worked out perfectly. We did not have a rental car, nor did we rent a golf cart. We relyed totally on Disney transportation and it went smoothly without a hitch! FW is a beautiful resort, very quiet and a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the parks. The Trails End is a great place to eat, we love breakfast there and it is a great value! The kids can do pony rides and the petting zoo and there's also the campfire program which we were unable to do because of all the rain we had the week we went :umbrella:

My mom stayed on the Murphy bed and said it was comfortable enough, too. (just in case you were wondering how comfortable a bed in a wall can be? LOL)

This time we are getting two rooms at AsMo, because the kids are bigger and we would rather have two bathrooms. But, in the future, we'd stay at FW cabins again for sure!!

I first want to say, we came back from Tahoe in March and what a unbeleivable time we had got count in that unexpected snow storm-16 inches. First time my sons and I ever saw snow...:0) Now back to your ??, we've stayed at the cabins twice and we are a family of 5. Had a great time and we would stay again. Try to get close to a bus stop if you can.

We stayed in the cabins two years ago and LOVED them. It was two adults and two teenage girls. No problems whatsoever, and everybody had a great time. We didn't rent a golf cart, or move our car much during the stay. Pretty much relied on Disney transportation with no worries. Trails End rocks for meals (we did cook a few meals on our own), and we went horseback riding and canoeing. Fun stay!

Another nice thing about the cabin is the full mousekeeping service. We would place our dishes in the dishwasher and they would run the dishwasher while we were gone. I think your childrens ages are perfect for the cabin. They'll love the bunkbed too.

The only thing I would add is if you are doing the dining plan you won't need to be cooking any meals so the issue of a kitchen isn't as much of a factor.

I would love to stay in the cabins but they are out of our budget! We ate at Trails End this trip and it was awesome! The entire Ft. Wilderness area (what little of it we saw) looked so peaceful and lovely! Have fun whatever you decide!

My family has stayed in a cabin and at POP.

On the cabins: We loved FW, so beautiful and we did rent the golf cart which was fun in itself. PLus we loved the seperate bedroom, we slept on the murphy bed and watched tv and the kids slept in the bedroom. WE did use the kitchen and grill so we ended up saving some money that way, but since you will have your meals included, this is not really a factor.

On POP: my kids love this resort. hands down it is their favorite. They are 4, 5, 7 and 9 all girls. We loved having the connecting rooms, which were guaranteed for a family with a higher kids to adult ratio... cant have those kids across the resort alone... darn. anyhow we have never had a problem. The resorts icons and colorful buildings were fun and the kids loved the pools and fountains. 2 tvs and bathrooms are a real plus too. The bus service is always reliable and i liked the food court.

On the whole either one would suit you. I would suggest POP if any swimmng is of interest. POP is much more kid friendly pool-wise.

What ever you do, you will have fun!!

Thanks for all the GREAT responses!!! Now I'm rethinking the Dining Plan and using the money we save there to splurge on other activities. My kids aren't into "fancy" table service anyways and are fine with sandwiches and chips. Plus, since it's got a kitchen, we can come back to the cabin and grill up steaks, hamburgers, etc.

It's such a HARD decision between POP and FW. Both are so different and have their pros and cons. Sigh. Yet another decision to make...teehee....I don't think we do this much planning for our retirement!!!! :rotfl:

I've seen some informative posts about the cabins on the Camping at Disney World forum here on the DIS, too. Scroll down the list of forums and you'll find it. Maybe do a forum search for "cabins" and see what you come up with. If I was driving down instead of flying, I'd be staying at the cabins too - they look great!
