We had been planning this trip for 7 months - our 3rd trip to the Fort. My report will concentrate on the Fort for now. Thanks to the Disigners on these boards I made some Fort shirts before we left:

Got the kids up and headed out at 3:30am on June 12. Just as we were leaving Virginia we came across this...

we could see it was going to take awhile so we got out and stretched a bit -

2 helicopters landed for the victims and about 40 minutes later we were on our way again - it was a bad accident and we were just grateful not to be involved

We also saw this at a gas station we stopped at:

Arrived at our hotel in Savannah around 4:00pm - had dinner at the Cracker Barrel next door and then let the kids swim in the hotel pool. Got up the next morning, had the free hotel hot breakfast and were on the road by 7:30am.

We arrived at the Fort around 12:30 and were assigned site 1816. Previously we have stayed in the 300 and 800 loops. Check-in took about 30 minutes as only 1 lane was open - there was also no online check-in lane open. We head off to our site and realize we have a little "situation".....there is already a camper setup on the site we've been assigned. Back to the front desk we go and I'm feeling a bit irritated but I've only been there 10 minutes and don't want to start out with a bad attitude. The CM is very apologetic and I assure him it's "no big deal". He tells me he had 2 of the same problem the day before - says sometimes campers just decide to choose their own site and setup - but never let the office know :confused3 Another 15 minutes later and we're off to site:

After setup we looked like this:

We normally go to Disney in June or August and it's HOT, but this time mom was especially wiped out and glad we had one of these - and after we picked it up we went and ordered the Giddyup and Go - YUM!:

I've read alot of discussions on how many tents can go on a site and their size - so I was a little surprised to see this is our loop- I didn't think you could have 2 campers on a site, but apparently you can - they also had 3 golf carts and a large canopy - DH thought maybe it was some type of rental unit? Anyone know?

Here are just a few random shots from around the Fort - because you can never have too many Fort pics:

We had a great time - but it was alot hotter than what I thought or remembered it being in the past. The pool was pretty crowded every afternoon and we were never carded. I saw alot of chair and tables being saved - some for hours and no one was around to use them. This irks the crap out of me. One Saturday it was so crowded the pool was pretty much standing room only and we couldn't find even one chair without a towel on it - we ended up just putting our stuff in pile on the grass. Another day DH took the kids to the pool and it was closed - someone said a kid got a bloody lip/nose and they had to shock the pool - it opened about 10 minutes after DH got there.

We ate at the pool once - I had the smothered hotdog - yum! and the kids and DH had a plain hotdog. I think almost $8 for a plain hotdog is a bit much even for disney prices. We had a refillable mug - you couldn't refill the mug yourself which was a little weird because they wasted a papercup everytime you asked for your mug to be refilled. Am I the only one who finds that a bizarre system? Since the snack bar closes relatively early and has a very limited selection - I'd love to see a better quick service choice at the Fort.

Our loop and campsite were fine - however, we shared a bathroom with another loop and this was often inconvenient when using the showers at night. I don't think the previous loops we stayed in shared bathrooms. Also the ice machine was broken for 3 days - there was no hot water in the womens shower for 2 nights and then someone "borrowed" the handheld shower head and that took 2 days to be replaced. None of these were a big deal and we didn't lose any sleep over it - just reporting it back to you guys.

Neighbors - I'm all about having a good time - but 3:00AM is really too late for me to listening to your cackling and laughing and the camper fire alarm going off. Be respectful of your fellow campers!

Almost forget - on the site across from ours I saw a sign about "another" Fort camping forum website and a username. I didn't see any green Mickey head signs during our visit.

We saw one accident at the loop entrance involving 2 bikes and a golf cart - security came and wrote up a report of some kind - we never did find out what happened. I know, we aren't very good spies.

DH went to pay up our bill the day before we left - he took the golf cart and was told to park in a parking spot. He parked and was getting his things together when "BAM" - a van hit backed into the golf cart. The cart was unharmed but the guy tore the bumper off his van. DH wanted to go in the office and tell someone but the guy said it was ok because "my wife drove the van through our garage last week and it doesn't matter":confused3 Whatever.

We found this little hitchhiker when we were cleaning up our site to leave hiding under our Popup Gizmo:

Our last morning we ate at Trails End because it's our tradition and how we roll. We took a few last pics before we ate:

We were seated and out came our favorite server - totally made our last meal enjoyable. My daughter even commented on what a friendly and happy man he was. Thanks Ken for the pleasant service!

Our 10 days went by way too fast - looking forward to going back in 2013. Thanks Disney for the memories! And thanks for reading my Fort report!

Great photos thanks for posting, I think this the 1st trip report I have read from someone in De. Glad to see you had a good time and returned safe.

I was at the Fort 6/19 - 6/24 and remember seeing your cart!!!

Photos are great, and hope you had a magical time!

Thank you for the great trip report, :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Please feel free to post more as the magical memories come to you,:goodvibes

Love the trip report! Thank you so much sharing. It is awesome that so many new folks are posting trip reports. I enjoy reading them so much and it helps me get through to my next trip.

Couple of comments:

The lack of carding at the pool is so frustrating. Instead of waiting to complain when I return home, I might start calling the Front Desk to complain during my stay. This is out of control. Maybe if enough of us complain frequently enough they will finally get this situation under control.

The site with the motorhome and pop up camper. And I think that pop up looks like a high wall camper and those puppies aren't small. Great way to save money but I didn't realize this was allowed. If this is now allowed that is great. I will call my friends who have a big trailer (and we have a highwall popup) and tell them that we can both camp on the same site and split the cost. However, I don't think this is really allowable and it frustrates me that rules aren't consistenly applied.

gillenkl,

Those are some awesome t-shirt designs. Glad to hear your trip went well. I agree in wishing Disney would ID the pool situation. If it's full of campers - fine - but if they're locals I'm not cool with that.

Thanks for the TR.

They are friends of mine and keep that setup for the 3 month they are there. It is Ok we also do the same thing when we camp at the Fort because at times we have up to 10 people on our site. Disney rule state you can’t have 2 RV’s on the same site but you can have 1 RV and a popup or 1 RV and as many tents that will fit. We always have 1 RV, 1 popup and 2 tents and 1 screen house on our site.

There is their setup last summer

Dude, you bring your own community with you ! :lmao:

Yes we do. Every other year we stay 6month to 1 year at the Fort. Monday –Thursday it’s just the wife and I come Friday our site increases to 10 people so we need housing for everyone.

If ya'll every need any drywall work done, I'm available . :lmao:

No kids just a rotation of adult friend coming in for the weekend

Wife says i'm only 15 and when all my freind just to Disney they are the same age as me

I couldn't help but notice the crocs. I have a pair that I wear around the house. Are they really comfortable enough for a day of doing Disney? I also just picked up a pair of Sanuk sandals (made of yoga mat). Anyone ever do Disney in these?

Thanks-as I get older, my feet get tireder.

I tried every brand/style of sneakers known to man. My feet still got tired and hurt at WDW. With Crocs I can go all day and evening without a problem. I also find a light pair of socks help out with the Crocs. I am such a fashionista. :lmao:

You are right-the crocs don't exactly make any fashion statement (other than poor), which is why I just got the Sanuks. However, I also have a pair of croc sandals, which I might try. As I get older, I find that I care less about fashion and more about comfort.

So you did have a good time? It kinda sounds like you had a lot of issues... Your original site taken, bathrooms not 100%, loud campers, pool crowded.

I am a little surprised by the bathrooms. When we went in 2008 they were fully functional and spotless.

And... what's with the "don't mess with me" face you have in the horse stall picture? lol
