Fort Wilderness question for my drinking friends

Okay, not to sound like an alcoholic or anything, but one of my favorite parts of any Disney trip is imbibing in copious amounts of liquid stimulus while gazing upon beautiful scenery. When I stay at the Wilderness Lodge, I can most often be found at the pool bar while other members of my party are napping or off (gasp!) working out, etc.

It's looking more and more as if my extended family will be staying at the Fort Wilderness campground in March, renting three cabins. Now I won't lie: I'm not thrilled with this development, especially since originally, we were going to get a Grand VIlla at the Bay Lake Towers.

You can see where I might be thinking, "Wow, that's quite the change in plan..."

Anyway, someone please assure me that there is a bar near the pool at Fort Wilderness. Or that libations of an adult type can be found somewhere on the resort's property. Don't make me resort to sitting in my cabin like some hillbilly with his still!

Thanks, as always
richard

You can buy beer at the pool and Pre-mixed drinks, or you can go to Crockets Tavern where there is a real Bar and porch outfront with rocking chairs so if you have too much liquid you can just rest there..

And, if you are feeling lonesome for the WL, you can walk to WL on the trail that goes between WL and FTW and then take the boat back. Just don't fall asleep or you'll miss your stop.

LOL. I was totally thinking about that. i remember a few years ago, I stayed at the WL and my parents were at Fort Wilderness. My mom would walk over and join me at the pool bar each evening.

When you say "pre-mixed drinks" does that mean... like, margaritas and such, or can I actually get (please please please please), like, mixed drinks... you know, bourbon and coke, that kinda thing? (Although I love the idea of rockin' myself to sleep on the porch! LOL)

You can also buy beer at either the Settlement or Meadows Trading Posts to take back to the cabins. They are a little pricey. We also had a bottle of wine delivered from a great wine store in the France Pavilion at Epcot. We picked it up at the Settlement Trading Post. When we were there last March, they were redoing all of the pool area, so I am not sure what they have there. Happy Vacationing!!!

Having wine delivered from Epcot is SUCH a great idea. I've used the whole "have things delivered back to your resort" thing when shopping at Disney, but never even THOUGHT to do it with wine!

The nice thing about the cabins is that you'll have a full size fridge. If you are driving or have a car, go to the liquor store and mix your own :thumbsup2 When we were there in August we did a fun thing the Fort regulars call looping with your big red cup...

See, whether at home or on vacation, I'm not an at home/in the cabin/hotel room drinker. I need to be somewhere that I can people watch, meet people, observe, whatever. I am the very definition of a "social drinker." LOL

Kahlua Mudslide $5.75

But... but... I need bourbon! (Although I'll admit the kahlua mudslide sounds delish)... am I to interpret this as there being no "hard liquor" for me to... no, I can't even consider this thought! I may have to book myself at Wilderness Lodge, the rest of them at Fort Wilderness. Wait, that seems a little drastic, huh?

Just have wegoshop or gardengrocer deliver the bourbon! Soda will be cheaper off property as well. It's probably worth the cost of a 1 day car rental to go to the ABC store near Downtown Disney to stock up.

Crocket's Tavern is a full service bar, you should be able to get your Bourbon there with no problem. Have them put it in a togo cup and stroll down to the beach and watch the boats come and go.

We're WL fans from many a trip and do spend some time in FW. Over our 43 trips, drinking on property from Disney's lounges and bars would have put us in the poor house. We do a grocery stop and next to the Publix Store is a liquor store, we load up, room has a fridge and resort has an ice machine. We load a small collapsible cooler and head out, loaded with our libations to the pool or for a walk to FW. It's saved us a bundle over the years, especially in beer in the hot sweltering days around the pool, we pack a picnic lunch with the grocery fixings, I can only do restaurant food for so long, and in the evenings, again at the pool, a couple of glasses of Jack and so ice keeps the whole world sane. I'm the BYOB type of person but the bar at Crockett's Tavern is a really nice place in the evenings, and the pizzas there are quite good.
