We will be staying at ASMo, but on one of our day's off I was hoping to go over to FW. We wanted to go to the petting zoo, pack a picnic, and do the hayride. I though it might be nice to take the launch from MK to FW. My questions are:

-Even though we are not staying at FW can we still ride the launch and do all the fun things there?

-How long does the ride on the launch take?

-What are some fun suggestions for things to do at FW during the morning (until naptime)?

-Is there a place for picnics if we pack a lunch?

Thanks for your help!

You can take the boat from MK to Ft. Wilderness. It is about a 10 minute or so ride. There are some tables at the marina area so you could picnic. If you are interested in having a meal, the buffet at Trail's End is really good and reasonable. Ft. Wilderness is a terrific place and you will enjoy looking around. Have fun!

the launch is great and takes 10 to 15 minutes. All Disney transportation is open to anyone staying on Disney property. Fort Wilderness is a great place to spend part of a day and they welcome guests from other resorts.

If your asking about the petting zoo you probably have young children so also consider a pony ride! I think there is a small meseum in the barn about Disney horses. There is a nice playground near the marina and one slightly above the marina near Pioneer hall ( the main building between the marina and the petting zoo). There are lots of lounge chairs on the beach to snooze in. There is a trading post and usually a few vendor carts. I agree with ugadog99, Trails end is a good buffet and it is alittle cheaper than most in wdw, there is also Crockett's tavern which is a lounge. Boats can be rented at the marina as well as bikes. There is an arcade in Pioneer Hall

The launch also goes to Wilderness Lodge so consider getting off there to poke around for a bit (its beautiful) before you head over to fort wilderness. There is also a trail between the two properties that you can walk , I think its about 3/4 of a mile to a mile long.

Have fun!
