I remember a canoe trip back in the 80's at Fort Wilderness at night where you ended up on the beach of the Lagoon where you roasted marshmallows, had a sing-a-long and then had front row seats for the Water Parade and then the Fireworks at MK. My DD7 is finally old enough and I would like to bring her. I think it was called "Marshmallow Marsh Tour" or something like that.

Does anyone know if this tour still happens?

Nope, but you can take the internal bus to the Chip N Dale campfire for the marshmallows, then back to the beach for the fireworks and electrical water pageant.

That does sound fun. But like sharadoc said it was discontinued. You still can rent a canoe at the Bike Barn.

I am glad that someone else remembered the canoe trip. I was talking to my parents about this and wondered if it still happened (since it was 28 years ago when I was 8 ). Then I read somewhere that it had stopped. My dad said that I sat at the end of the canoe and yelled for everyone to duck when we went under the bridges. I can remember my grandma almost fell out of the canoe when she was getting in. That was scary. I can also remember coming back to the campground in the dark.

This is one of my fondest memories in Fort Wilderness. My grandparents introduced me to the Fort. Both have passed away now, but I will be starting my own family tradition at the Fort with my children. My husband and I will be bringing our 2 boys (11 and 6) to the fort Aug 3-11. I cant wait!!!!!

My first trip to Disney World was with my family when I was 10. Being a big family we always camped because hotels were too expensive for a family of 9. I loved camping at Fort Wilderness! We had the freedom to be campers but also had the fun of the park close by( there was only one park at the time!).
I'm looking forward to going back and hopefully staying at the Lodge some day!

The cabin is still there. And there is a "partial" dock there also.
