We have our reservation booked for March and have planned to rent a trailer while in Florida to stay at Fort Wilderness. With the falling Canadian dollar I am looking at different options.

We have a tent trailer and I am wondering if anyone has towed their tent trailer from Canada or New York to Florida in March?

:)

We towed our pop-up Aliner from Connecticut in February a few years ago...is that close enough?

I will tell you that it was a freakishly snowy year for us (2011) and our street was down to about a single lane, so we were able to get out of the driveway to go down for FL, but we knew there was no way we'd be able to back in once we got home. So we dropped the camper off for storage for a couple of months in the Washington DC area at a campground that we had been to and knew that they had storage.

Otherwise, no problems at all. Traveling during potentially snowy or icy seasons requires that you watch the weather carefully and always have it in the back of your head that you might need to hunker down somewhere to wait something out. March should be the tail end, though!

Agreed. Snow season brings its own challenges and you will need a contigency plan to work around the potential for a storm. But that being said it is not impossible. We had snow just before leaving in Jan 2014, but I was able to get the RV out of storage and head south. I did have to wash her when I got there as the salt was pretty bad. But otherwise no major issues.

Friends live in PA on a big hill and they had to delay their return a day due to ice/snow and not willing to chance it. But they still go home and into their driveway without issue the following day.

March is a good time to go to DW. We usually go every year in Mar but this are taking a Disney Cruise instead. Plan on plenty of families on spring break. The weather is usually great-- in the 70-80s during the day and 60s at night. Have fun!

Our March break is a week later this year and I am thinking that by the start of March if it is nice out we will take it with us! That along is a savings of $1000.00. My husband wants to have the tv there - his concern! We have a cable hook up - I say purchase one to take down! :)

The driving is a concern though - any hint of a late season storm and I am not sure if we would.

Has anyone stopped along the i95 and camped?

We're driving from NY (along the PA border) and have looked into camping in NC at the Rocky Mount KOA which is right over the VA border. It's about half way for us. I'm sure the weather will be warm enough/okay for a pop-up that far south. I know that most campgrounds in NY aren't open in March, but I would guess by the time you reach VA you are going to find places that are open. As for NY in March, you never know what you are going to get. Some years the roads are clear with all the snow melted, other years we have huge storms in March. For $1000 I would probably take the chance.

You could always take the I-75 and there are lots of KOA along the route but you would need to check if they are open when you are travelling. We live in Cobourg about 1-1/2 hours east of Toronto and used the I-75 route in 2013 and last year we went via Buffalo I-90/I-79/I-77/I-26/I-95/I-4. We are going again in May and will be travelling the Buffalo route as the roads and the scenery are much better although you do have to take into account the mountains in West Virginia (we have a 37' Class A and pull our Ford Focus). Good luck foe which ever way you decide and enjoy the Fort

Sure, a bunch of times! We've done the following either on the way up or down:
Americamps near Richmond
Rocky Mount KOA in NC
Fayetteville KOA in NC
RV Resort at Carolina Crossing in NC
Camp Pedro at Pedro's S.O.B. in SC
Colleton State Park in SC (closes the gate early, though, so it needs to not be a late night arrival)
Point South KOA in SC
Jacksonville North KOA in GA (just north of the FL/GA border)
Country Oaks CG (same exit as the Jacksonville KOA)

We've done a lot of KOAs because we consider them the "Applebee's of Campgrounds": you won't have your socks knocked off, but you know what you're getting :) Plus most of them have pull-throughs, which is nice for an overnight if you can stay hitched.
