Fort Wilderness Cabins

Your words have been ringing in my ears since I checked in 2 days ago. Yes the cabins are nothing like the gf... thank my lucky stars!!! Not knocking the gf, it was absolutely beautiful but, this place is magical it is truly a family vacation. I have never stayed anywhere as unique as this with my family. I feel compelled to start the trip report which I'll probably do shortly!

Oh, I'm so glad you're enjoying FW! I think I could find plenty to do at FW without going to a park for a few days -- not that I'd ever do that, but . . . I look forward to your trip report!

There's nowhere better at Christmas! If you don't have a golf cart, rent one for at least one day to go through all the camping loops!

This is a nice thread. I am still looking into the cabins as a possibility for our next trip because it is one of the few onsite options that can accommodate our family's size that's not at the deluxe pricing level; and I love the atmosphere and recreational amenities of Fort Wilderness. We didn't go with the cabins for our last trip because the per night rate is quite a bit higher than the rate for the AS Music family suite, we wanted two bathrooms, we had the quick service dining plan and wanted easy access to a food court, and we were really concerned about how spread out the campground is and didn't want the added expense of having to rent a golf cart or having to rely on both an internal bus system and park bus system to get around. However for our next trip, if we don't get the dining plan and can get a really nice room only discount for the cabin, I can see us really taking advantage of the grill and full kitchen. I still have reservations about getting around the campground efficiently without a golf cart though because I know my kids would definitely want to spend a lot of time at the themed pool area and the other activities such as the petting zoo, campfire sing along, horseback riding, etc. So I guess I still need some assurance about that issue.

I have never rented a golf cart, because as a solo, I can't justify the expense. I have never had a problem getting around the campground using the bus system. They give you a map when you check in and there are maps in the bus stops. Once you know where each route goes (two of them go through the cabin area) then it's easy to get where you're going. I actually walked to the Meadow pool from the 2200 and 2400 loops and got there faster than the bus did (and I'm not a fast walker).

A golf cart is convenient, but it is not necessary.
