Fort Wilderness Cabins

You do not have to rent a cart however many people do as they are fun to see the Fort. We didn't rent a cart, nor did we have a car, and it was just fine but our kids were 8-16 at the time so walking and waiting were not an issue at all. There is an internal bus system to run you around as well. As far as "how far" things are, it really depends on what cabin loop you are in.

You can make loop requests, we were in 2700, close to the loop exit which made a huge difference in far it was to the bus stop. We actually walked, more often than not, to the Outpost to catch park buses. I do recommend requesting a cabin that is on the end or beginning of a loop, versus in the middle. We were walking distance to the cabin/quiet pool.

We did walk all the way to the Marina once, it was lovely but we also used the bus several times with zero issues.

Some people prefer loops closer to the Meadows pool. Since it was closed for refurbishment while we were there, it didn't matter.

There is a TV in the bedroom, as well as the Living room.

Bump popcorn:: Tell me more, I'm liking what I'm hearing. I just flipped my June res from POR to FWC due to the room discounts being extended through mid-August. Rate went down about $1200 which sealed the deal from me.:thumbsup2Having that bit of extra living room for the five of us (incl. 4 adults) is gonna make life a little more comfortable while there.

Any of you actually do any BBQ'ing while staying in a cabin?
Hows the closet space-is there only the one in the bedroom?
Can you take a boat to Contemporary to shop or eat?
Is it buggy? (never had a problem at any other resort)
If your driving, how's the access to/from resort?

I haven't BBQ'd, but seen plenty of the "neighbors" doing it. Each cabin has it's own grill - you have to bring your own charcoal though.

There is only one closet in the bedroom for hanging clothes (and the hangers in mine were not removable from the rod - so if this is an issue, bring a few of your own). There are four drawers under the bedroom TV, and two in the nightstand. There are shelves on either side of the Murphy bed in the living room that would be perfect for holding suitcases with clothes in them. There are cabinets under these shelves, but I've always been a little leery of putting anything in them. Since my trips to FW are usually solo, I just put my suitcases on the bottom bunk for anything that doesn't have to hang, and hang up my shirts in the small closet.

Yes, there is a boat that goes to WL and CR from the FW marina. Just follow the signs.

I have had a few issues with mosquitos at FW, primarily at the beach. I usually pack some individually packaged Off towelettes. That way, I only apply if needed, and they are easy to carry. I haven't noticed any other bugs of any kind.

I drive to WDW. I like having my own private parking space at the cabin - no circling the lot at the end of the day trying to find a place to park. You are allowed to drive to and from your cabin, and there are 15 minute parking spaces at the Meadow Trading Post. Other than that, you can't use your car within the campground. Getting in and out of FW has never been a problem, but if you are concerned you could get lost, you can drive your car to the parking lot near the Outpost, and take the bus from there. When you come back from the park, you just get in your car and drive back to the cabin. The only park you will not want to drive to under any circumstances is MK. Since you'd have to park at TTC, it's less of a hassle to just take the boat in the first place.

Just wondering about the amenities in the Cabins? Take it there's the usual, like towels, soap, etc., but enough for 5 people? Do they have towels at the pools or do we need to take our own?

Yep, we did hot dogs and hamburgers

Very small - about half the size of one in a hotel room.
Can you take a boat to Contemporary to shop or eat?
Yes, a small boat
Is it buggy? (never had a problem at any other resort)
Didn't see one, even in August
If your driving, how's the access to/from resort?
Wonderful - it's easy to get everywhere from there. If you exit and turn right, you're 5 minutes from MK, if you turn left, you're 10 minutes from Epcot, DHS and DTD

Storage is my only issue. There's 4 small drawers in the bedroom, two small drawers in the night stand, two cabinets with a shelf on either side of the Murphy bed, plus the cabinets in the bathroom. You'll need to keep yourself organized or you'll have stuff everywhere like we did!

FYI - Loop 2500 is really nice. It's small so even if you're towards the back of the loop, you're not too far from the road. There is a bus stop by the entrance to the loop, and the laundry room and quiet pool are right next door.

One of the things we love about the cabins is how many towels they give you. Their are about 12 towels and wash cloths in the cabins. That's 12 hand towels and 12 bath towels. The cupboard under the bathroom sink is loaded with them. We can all take 2 showers a day and still have unused towels.

We just were in the cabins this past March and loved it so much we will be back this September.

We Loved the Cabins too. There is a full sized bed and a set of bunk beds in the bedroom, as well as a full sized Murphy bed in the living room. Each unit also has a full kitchen. We saved alot of money on breakfast. If we were inclined to have a few meals in the cabin, we could saveD even more.

There are two TV's. (One in the living room and one in the bedroom) We stayed with my mom and I was concerned about it being awkward for her and my DH. The cabin allowed them each to have the privacy they needed.

I have an energetic autistic child, so a big plus for us was that our unit was our own. If he jumped or yelled, we weren't bothering our neighbors. MY DH liked that our car was parked right at our doorstep.:thumbsup2

There have been some great codes on the cabins recently. When we stayed at the cabin we had originally booked 2 rooms at POP. We got a later got a code that brought the one cabin down to cheaper than the 2 value rooms.

The Meadows Pool is now themed. It has a slide, a kids Splash Zone, and a hot tub:thumbsup2

Hi all, I was wondering whether towels are available at the pools. We're staying at a Cabin in April. It will be our first time at Fort Wilderness.

Thanks!

No towels at the pool, but you can always take towels from the cabin and ask for more from housekeeping.

Have fun at the cabin! They are great! :goodvibes

Does anyone know if the kids wading pool heated?

How long would it take to walk from the main pool to the marina?

We have been at a rental home in FL on vaca and something came up with the owners....long story short we lost our rental!!...so, after mulling it over for days and calling DW 100 times, we r going to take a gamble and stay at the cabins. Excited and nervous too...never done a campy type anything! This seems to be just about my speed!

I hope you have a great trip. FW is nothing like Grand Floridian, so go into this stay with reasonable expectations. The grounds are lovely and it's fun to be at a campground -- even if you're staying in the cabins. But, it is unlike any other Disney resort. Take advantage of the camp fire, do Hoop De Doo, explore and enjoy.

We spent a week in the cabins on Sept/Oct. They are amazing.

There are a few HUGE loops with cabins in the middle of the campground. However, there is a secret set of 2 cabins on the 100? loop down by the marina and trading post. I understand these are VIP cabins, and we were fortunate to be upgraded to one by Disney at check-in. It was amazing! VIP is location only, didn't seem to be any other upgrades.

The cabin is like a house. The bedroom sleeps 4 (double bed and bunks), has a full bath, full kitchen, and living/dining area. The living sleeps 2 on the pull-down double.

We had groceries brought in and cooked many meals. We had little kids at the time. We rented a golf cart (for about $250/wk) which was great, but expensive. It was nice after a long day to get off the boat or bus and buzz home.

The dining is inexpensive on property. We didn't do hoop-dee-do, that is expensive. We visited the petting zoo, watched fireworks from the beach, and visited the pool before refurbishment (so it was really old). Very nice. We did grill a shrimp dinner on the grill and burgers another night - brought our own charcoal and it was great!

The campfire party each night is great with s'mores for sale and singing. It was great when the birthdays were recognized. We had 2 in october in our family!

Stay here, it is well worth it and plan some time to hang in the resort itself!

Your words have been ringing in my ears since I checked in 2 days ago. Yes the cabins are nothing like the gf... thank my lucky stars!!! Not knocking the gf, it was absolutely beautiful but, this place is magical it is truly a family vacation. I have never stayed anywhere as unique as this with my family. I feel compelled to start the trip report which I'll probably do shortly!
