Has anyone ever stayed in one of these? I've seen pictures and am very interested to hear from someone with first hand experience.

I can not say that I have fisrt hand experience but I can say that I have dear friends that have stayed in them 3 times and LOVE them. They have two kids and they say that they would rather stay there where they can bbq and eat outside. They do not eat in the parks much and love to camp in general so this is perfect for them.
They take a car but have also used the bus stystem. They do not like the bus system very much and i know one time got a driver that got actually lost and they had to have someone come and take over for him. (very funny story)
They do not really do any of the activities around that area so i haven't heard anything about them.

They have said that every time they stay in the cabins they have been very clean and once they even got towel animals.:)

That is great to hear. Personally, I think the cabins would be a nice change of pace for a family. They are going on my list for the future. Even when my kids were little, they got tired of eating in the parks (too much Mickey-roni). What we wouldn't have given for a backyard burger!

Love them. I will give you the reasons...
1) I went when my son was 3 and still taking naps. It was very quiet.
2) And I could cook him some easy meals there. (picky eater)
3) No pressure to go to the parks all day/everyday. The resort has many fun things to do. (fishing, bikes, sing-a-longs, hay rides etc)
4) Boat ride to MK and renting golf carts.
5) View of the fireworks from beach.
6) did I say it was quiet!!!!

I want to go to WDW again, and I find myself comparing the amenities at the cabins with others. With a small child is was great.

Go to the camping section on this board and you will see more.

I have not stayed in a cabin, but we have spent many wonderful trips @ Fort Wilderness!:thumbsup2 It is very peacful at night and really relaxing. Try the camping @ Disney board for more info!

Hi TxGal. I'm a Texas gal too...well, transplanted to GA, ha. Ft Wilderness is so much fun. Lots to do or do nothing at all. Very relaxing!! I've only seen the outside of the cabins, as we camp in our trailer....but everyone usually loves them!

i stayed with family when grandson was 4 months old , had a great rate, dd and dsil stayed in the back bedroom, there were bunk beds and a double bed there ,32 inch tv, i stayed in the murphy bed and grandson stayed in pack and play with me, i also had my own tv, it was very convienent as we had full sized kitchen with refridgerator,, microwave, dishwasher, which the maid loaded the dishwasher every day it was nice to come back to clean bottles for baby and fresh milk in fridge which we supplied milk, also able to get snacks and the kids brought back dinner from parks they could keep and reheat, it was very quiet, it kinda reminded me of maine with the bear and moose lamps, and plaid, it also had a full size couch, it was basically the same as a single wide modular home, the only thing the kids didnot like was no food courts close by, too lazy to cook and reheat i guess, we saw the electric water parade from the beach, and saw the petting animals , i would stay there again my only advice would be is to have your own car,

Thanks so much, everyone -- and I will check out the camping thread!

Our first 2 trips to wdw we stayed at the cabins at FT. Wilderness. My entire family loved it. . First, they were so peaceful. I loved it after a long hot day at the parks coming back to the quiet woods. Very roomy although I thought the bathroom needed more light. I don't do a lot of cooking on vacation but having a full size fridge was great. We picked up water bottles, juice and soda at the trading post, froze them over night and then had a nice cool bottle of water in the parks. Plus on the few days when every one was pooped and it took a little longer to get up for breakfast, we'd pop in frozen waffles or cereal.

Oh, you have a barbeque and a patio. We go in the summer (late august) and we take breaks in the mid afternoon. so it was great and easy to throw some burgers and hot dogs on the grill.
One warning, the pools are very boring. simply olympic sized pools, no slides or themes. They were never crowded though.

Loved the cabins, they even had maid service so it was hardly roughing it. The only problem with the cabins is transportation. Constantly switching busses and it just took forever to get anywhere.

We got tired of that also. The second time we requested a loop close to the settlement depot so we would walk and not have to deal with the internal busses.

We loved the cabins too, but would not stay there without renting a golf cart to get around.

We usually take our motorhome, but we love the cabins because of how *quiet* they are. A family member who comes with us has anxiety/panic disorder/sleeping issues, and this is the ONLY location she feels comfortable in (and she's tried most of the others!). Plus, after DS got sick on our first visit and we were "trapped" in our All Stars room with him, I swore, never again! Here you can go out on the deck, one can rest in the bedroom and not hear the others in the living room, etc. And an odd thing that I do like about the pools is that they're actually deep/big enough to swim laps/water walk, etc, in. Although we never cook "real" meals, it's great to have gardengrocer bring us snackie stuff to microwave, drinks to cool down in the full size frig and take to the parks during the day, etc. Love them!
