Has anyone ever stayed in the "Fort Wilderness Cabins" using their DVC points? What are the lay-outs of the cabins? Does being in the cabins give you the feel of camping in a wooded area? I camped at Fort Wilderness Campground many years ago with my family but don't remember anything about the cabins, we had our own camper. My husband and I also love camping as well as staying in upscale resorts, so I was just wondering if this might be an option for one of our DVC trips. TIA

We've stayed in the cabins two times, but not with our points. They are really cute. There is a full kitchen and living room with a murphy bed (comes down from the wall). Down a hallway, there is a bathroom. The bedroom in the back has a queen or full bed and a bunk bed. So, it sleeps 6 and has only one bath. Though I've never stayed in a mobile home, that is the feeling I have when we stay in the cabins. I've thought about using our points for a cabin, but you do pay the $75 fee (or whatever it is) to book outside the DVC, and your points can't be returned to your account if you cancel.

There is also a small deck on the cabin and a grill below. There is no washer/dryer in them; you have to use the ones at the pool. I think there is the feeling of the campgrounds, even though you stay in a cabin. Having 4 children, the cabins were really nice for us.

I'm new to DVC, haven't even closed yet on our contract, so I'm still learning eveything about the DVC system. What's the $75 fee? Is this for booking anything other than the DVC resorts? Thanks.

We've stayed in the FW cabins and really liked it. I have a lot of photos in my TR, so perhaps that will help answer some of your questions. If you have any more questions, let me know. I'll see if I could help.

Overall, we'd like to stay in the cabins again...but only if we wanted to plan a trip but didn't want to use points. I'd only pay cash for the cabins. I'd choose a 1BR or 2BR over a cabin anyday.

We love the Wilderness Cabins because we really like the atmosphere of Fort Wilderness overall. In fact, the Wilderness Cabins, plus our eligibility to stay at Shades of Green, were the major reasons that it took us so long to buy into DVC. Since we usually take 10 day trips starting on a Friday night, we now usually spend the first two nights at Fort Wilderness with cash. That way we get the best of both worlds, we save weekend points, and we get to spend a little time at a non-DVC resort that we love!

That's exactly what we did -- Weekend night at FW cabin to free up our DVC points for the rest of the week.

We love the camping atmosphere.

The FW cabins are awesome. We really enjoyed our stay there. The only down side for us was the disatance to the boat launch in which we ended up renting a golf cart the the week. We also did not use points for our stay....we bought in after.

The $75 fee is only for booking outside of Disney. You do have to pay a fee for the Disney Cruise.

We've used points in the cabins and never had to pay the fee. We're using points for a camp site this summer and did not pay the fee.
We really enjoyed staying in the cabins. It's especially nice to have a golf cart to ride around the grounds with but they're quite expensive per day.
You might be better off renting out your points and paying for your cabin with that!

Thanks for all the helpful information. I'll have to give the cabins a try, maybe for a long cash weekend and not use our points. We do enjoy camping which is why I thought about giving the cabins a try.

CRSNDSNY, thanks for the photos, the cabins look nice, but small. Would they be large enough for a family of 5 with 3 teenage boys each around 6 ft. This is one reason we started timesharing in order to have 2 BRs and space for the family.

hmmmm....thats about the size of my son and i can't imagine 3 of him in a cabin, lol! It's mainly the sleeping arrangements that will be tight, even though they do sleep 5. They'd probably have to share one of the beds in order to do that and i know my 2 kids, one is only 11, would not want to do that!
They are "trailer size" inside, but just so quaint and cute and rustic. Maybe you could bring an aero bed?

Hmmm....to be honest, I'm sure you can do it. But do you want to? I wouldn't.

We loved the cabins but it was just for one night. We had 4 adults and a 1yo. I'd love it for me, DH and my DD1. But it was tight with two other adults, as well. I couldn't imagine spending an extended period of time in that cabin with so many adults.

I'd go for the 2BR. Much more spacious and your teenagers would have their own space to spread out -- their own tv, bathroom, etc. That'd be much nicer.

Well, I guess I'll have to wait and go with just my Husband and I, and leave the kids home. I'll stay with the 2-BRs for now. Thanks everyone.

the cabins have 2 twin bunks, a double bed (in the same room) and a queen murphy bed in the living room - they are setup for 6 people and we were not cramped having 3 adults and 3 teens in the unit for our trip - the bathroom is ok and I loved having the kitchen. this was before dvc for me but i would bet you would be fine for a couple of nights. The campground is a lot of fun too.
