Fort Wilderness Cabin Help

The first time we went with our son, we stayed at the All Star Sports. The next time we went with 3 kids, we stayed at what is now the Nikelodean (sp?) Family suites.

This time (December hopefully) with 3 kids again and likely my parents, Dh wants to stay at the cabins, and I'm thinking... why not just priceline 2 resort rooms off campus.

Can anyone speak to that? How do I evaluate the difference in prices? Well, I guess I need to check the cabin price..but I'm assuming since it is Disney that we're looking at at least 500.00 a night, right?

I;m figuring I can get 2 priceline resort rooms for like under 140.00 a night total.

the cabins are not $500 a night. I think probably half that without any discount. But there is usually always a code somewhere. I know in May last year we paid just under $200 a night at the cabins with a code.

I think she wanted 2 cabins but the price for one cabin is $250 per night in value season. There are codes out there but still with the 40% off code you are looking at $150 per night. You can rent a house with 4 bedrooms for less than that but you won't be close to MK. I am willing to sacrifice eating every meal out in order to be close to MK but I think each family is different.

This is the floor plan of the cabins.

When mychildren were younger, they didn't want to stay anywhere else!

Wow, thanks for all the great info everyone. I am convinced. :yay: Armadillo...REALLY??? That would be so cool and a really neat experience for the kids. I am not afraid of a different experience. I think my family will love the down time there. I think what I am looking forward the most to is the boat lauch to MK. I love MK:lovestruc and really want to stay someplace close. I was afraid of it being dirty but I always think about how dirty the carpets really are. They just HIDE the dirt.:scared1: I can live with dirty socks. Is it because of carrying dirt in from outside or is it just old and dirty?

I'm not sure what the OP meant specifically, but I have seen alot of Mousekeeping complaints more recently (not just the cabins, all hotels). When we went the floor was nice and clean, no issues at all :wizard:

Honestly, my trip in 2006, had the worst Mousekeeping. Not only was our room dirty, things were missing from our room.

No doubt you can get a great price on priceline for outside hotels. At Disney you are paying for convienence and theming. If price is a concern and you don't mind being outside of the magic, then go ahead and book an outside hotel, it will be loads cheaper.

If you want to stay in the magic, value resorts in addition to the FW cabins are great options.

we stayed in the cabins a few years back, & really enjoyed it!
it's a different experience than the other resorts......the grounds are naturally beautiful, with only subtle disney touches. we loved the pool ~ a great place for a dip, nestled among huge trees (unless it has changed, the laundry area was near the pool area so you could swim as you washed/dried clothes).
the cabin was roomy (funny story tho: DS started screaming one morning ~ another nice thing about the cabins: he didn't disturb anyone else. he saw a "huge roach" in the bathroom!! :scared1: we all came running to see the biggest palmetto bug god ever created ;) . DH just put it outside, but the the reaction showed us that basic suburbia really insulates ppl from the size of some insects lol).
we loved the relaxed feel of the resort, walking along trails (frequently joined only by a bunny or other creature), the communal attitude where everyone talks to one another, the "hidden gem" of trail's end, watching the water pagent from the dock.
imho, the cabins, as well as FW itself, are in a class all by themselves ~ there really is nothing comparable.
have a great trip!:)

Just a couple questions:
1) The "Murphy" bed in the main area, is it big enough for two people - DW and myself?
2) Is this a fun place to stay with the kids, or do you think they would like one of the all stars or pop better for their age (5 and 9).
3) Is the horseback riding, pony rides, petting farm, etc included or do you have to pay extra for this? Is the canoe rented or included?

Hi! Stayed at FWC last Dec so prices may have gone up in the new year. We loved the cabin. The flora and fauna around the area is a little sparse for my liking, but oh well. The deck is great for relaxing with a cup of coffee or tea in the morn. The BBQ is a charcoal one, not gas. Murphy bed was big enough for 2. If the kids like the outdoors, they will like FWC. One problem with the horseback riding, though, I do not think you can ride under 10. We were thinking about it but DS4 could not but DS10 could. Not only that but I believe it was about $40/per for 45mins. Pony rides are $4 for one turn around the circle. Petting zoo free. Boats not included and did not check prices. If you rent a car, you are not "allowed" to just drive around the campground to get where you want, just in and out. Parking is for golfcarts (@$47/day and if you are going in Dec reserve EARLY!!!) and not much for cars, although there is a small lot near the Meadows Trading post if you had to. You do have a parking spot at the cabin, but a full size extended cab PU would be really stretching it!! There is also an all terrain Segway tour offered but do not know the cost. So many other things to do!!! Check out the links below. As PP said, look into the camping threads and try to weed out the cabin threads, as it is mostly the RVers posting (quite the little community!) Oh, and if you are there during DEC you may want to rent a golfcart at least one day to ride around and see all the Xmas displays the RVers set out, it is really quite phenomonal!!!!:thumbsup2 :cool1: Takes a few hours to do the park. There are offsite GC rentals and there is a link on the Disneycampers site I believe.

Link to FW map is http://www.wdwinfo.com/maps/FWMap.pdf which shows the bus routes.

Another link is http://www.disneycampers.com/ .

FW link is http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wd...?id=FortWildernessCampgroundResortLandingPage . Be sure to go to the "rates" section for pricing.

By the way, have you looked into Port Orleans Riverside? Liked it there also.

Hope this helps and enjoy your vacation whatever you may decide!!

Don't have to be in FW to see a HUGE "Palmetto bug"..okay if you like to call roaches that(sounds prettier I'll admit!)...We saw one on the MONORAIL while waiting to board at the MK. It crawled INSIDE when the door opened. You can only imagine the screaming..:scared1: stomping:woohoo: and children crying as this creature made it's way around the car in the DARK! It finally was literally kicked out at the Polynesian..and I tell you it was still in one piece..albeit a "dead" piece!:rotfl:

Sorry to go off topic..but I couldn't help it.

OP...you can find a good deal of info regarding the cabins and the amenities FW has to offer on the camping boards.;) They are a very well informed bunch and die hard FW visitors!:thumbsup2

Hello,

I love the Cabins, have a wonderful stay.

You can't take your car there, they have buses that go all around the resort you can take. The Golf carts have numbers on them, we rented them before and had no problem locating ours, we also enjoy riding around the resort in them.

We're staying for the first time at the cabins this September. We have camped there twice before. No, there is no place to park a car by the boat dock. Actually, there's not alot of places to park a car anywhere but your camp or cabin site. You can take the internal bus sytstem to the dock and other places within FW. There is a place to park golf carts down near the dock though. You can decorate your golf cart with bandanas, or hang something from the top. Some people have done a lot of decorating to their carts. I hope this helps!

Just a quick reply about the internal bus routes, in Jan 08 the purple cabin bus changed routes and now goes pass the Meadows trading post, pool and campfire. We have stayed in the cabins many times and would not stay any place else, we love Fort Wilderness. We do not rent a golf cart or have a car while there and have never had a bus problem except when our bus was in an accident and a orange bus took us to our bus stop. Check out www.allearsnet.com/acc/faq_fw.htm for a lot of info.

We stayed in the Cabins our first 3 trips. They are perfect for families. Having the extra room & a kitchen onsite for such a comparitively cheap price makes them a real gem. We also really appreciated the quiet break we had there. Great for getting litle ones to calm down & take a break before they get over-stimulated.

We only rented a golf cart for one or two days each stay, never rented a car & never had problems with the transportation system.

I have such great memories of Fort Wilderness. That's where we fell in love with WDW.

We have stayed in the Cabins 3 times - actually our first was the old Travel Trailers they had before the Cabins.
We loved having the bedroom for the 3 kids. At night, when they were young, we would put them to bed and close the door and enjoy quiet time, an adult beverage and each other. It was great.
Having the full kitchen is also a huge advantage. We ate breakfast in each morning and that alone saved a lot. We also loved having cold juice and snacks if we came back for an afernoon break.
Watching the fireworks and EWP from the beach is great fun.
We rented a golf cart on one trip and it was fun to have. The kids considered it another "ride". We had our own car once, and one trip totally relied on Disney transportation - without a problem.
I was back last year with DS and Grandchildren for the HDDR. The feeling of being back in FW was great. There is no other place on property like it.
Recently, now that everyone is grown, we have stayed in the DVC Villas.
They are very different and hard to compare.
To me FW is a "themed" area unto itself and I love the theming. I love the quiet and having a deck to sit on. I love not being right next door to another family.
The Villas are much more like condo's - maybe more sophisticated than the Cabins which are rustic.
We love the added space of boh. As said before the Mater bathroom in the one bedroom Villas if very large.
I would stay in a FW Cabin again at any time
Enjoy your trip!

The fireworks from the beach, Electric water parade, chip and dale sing a long.
Which beach or where can you see the fireworks at the campgrounds? Is there more then one beach?
