Hey all!!!

My mom and her dh have a huge camper and asked my family if we would like to go to Disney next year and we could all use their camper.

My mom will all cook us a big breakfast in the morning, so we only have to have lunch in the park and just do counter meals, as we don't want to spend a lot, as we are looking at putting on an addition on our house next year..

Okay, enough rambling..:rotfl:

My question is: Has anyone stayed at the campground in December? We would be staying in a very nice heated camper, but still afraid it might be too cold staying at the campground in December.

So,has anyone stayed that month and how was it??

I have one more question, too.

My mom has a 32 foot camper....that is pulled with their truck.

When I was pricing it, I could only find either cabins or sites with pop up tents. It says 5th wheels have to go to another site, but can't find this information.

My mom and I are confused as friends of our have a huge motorhome and every winter they would drive down there and stay for a few weeks at Fort Wilderness.

So, anyone who has stayed there with a 5th wheel, where do I find the correct site at?

Thanks:wizard:

If you were checking on dates for this December, the sites for rv's are all booked up as of right now, which is why you didn't see them listed on there. Can you input December 2008 dates on there yet?

A 5th wheel will be fine at the fort, it has heat. What we did, though, is buy a little space heater with a fan on it, and use that at night. It keeps a more consistent heat. the heater in the camper seems to let it get too cold before it would kick on, then it gets too hot before it goes off again.

the Fort has 3 sites - preferred, full, partial. full has water/sewer, preferred has both/cable, partial has water (for tents and popups). So you need a full or preferred. When you make your reservation, tell the reservationist what size unit and if it has an awning and/or slide outs.

we have camped all weathers in a similar setup and you will be fine.

Thanks Lesia.

My mom has one slide out, so I will have to remember that when making our reservation.

So, now when to go,,,October or December:confused3

The parks are so pretty during Chritmas..last time I saw that was in 99.....

The only holiday I have never experienced in the parks in Halloween, so that might be a neat experience as well.

Can't wait to start planning:cool1:

We live just 30 miles from Disney and have camped regularly in the winter at Ft. Wilderness. The weather can go either way, but in December you can usually get by with a sweatshirt or light-weight jacket. The "bitter" cold (if you can call it that in Fl) usually doesn't hit until January.

In my experience with making reservations on-line.... it just doesn't work. Call CRO at (407) 934-7639. I tried booking Thksgiving 08 online & wouldn't work - got the same thing you did - pop-up/tent camping only. I called CRO & presto!! got my reservation!

5th wheels can be tricky to back in at Ft. Wilderness depending on the site you get. There are a lot of obstacles such as trees, buried trash cans, site markers, recycle bins & inconsiderate campers that park their vehicles half-way in the road. If you are assigned a site that is too much of a squirm to get in to, just pull up to one of the comfort stations & call the front desk and ask them to reassign you.

Also, if you are intimidated by backing in - ask for a Campground Cast Member to assist you. They have many people specifically trained to help you get set up. Their motto? The sooner you set up, the sooner you spend money!!:scared1:

I truly hope you enjoy the campground. I have since 1974! As a matter of fact, our camping equipment over the years has been specifically used at Disney & rarely anywhere else!

Thanks des....

I will definitely book phone and not interent. I was just trying to get an idea of price, but their site was not cooperating, as you know...:rotfl2:

Sweatshirts and light jackets sound fine by me:thumbsup2

Thanks for letting me know I can be reassigned if it is too tight of a squeeze.

My mom;s hubby will be doing the backing in for sure...:rotfl:

Thank you for your wishing us a good trip....It sound like it is going to be a blast...:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Sounds like you two are going to have a blast and quite a hangover..........:lmao:

Hey, Trentmom!!! I could't help but notice your ice cream cones in you sig. If you are a fan of Ice Cream... you MUST go to Beaches & Cream at the Yacht & Beach Club when you're here! They have a dessert called "The Kitchen Sink", and I believe it has 22 scoops of ice cream & all the toppings!! It's definitely a "unique" ice cream opportunity!

DBro has this Epcot plan.... we start at Canada & drink a bee-ah at each country, ending in Mexico. We never go clock-wise, b-cuz DBro doesn't care for Norwegian beer. (2nd on the stop, clock-wise) If we go counter-clockwise, he's had enough beer by the time we get to Norway, he doesn't care!!! :rotfl:

Christmastime at FW is nice - lots of people bring decorations for their site. The last two times we were there, it was rather cold at night, but we dressed in layers and drank lots of hot cocoa.

Christmas time at the fort. A perfect time for camping in Fla!

We tent camp and have yet to be uncomfortable (though we do have a small space heater and blankets). You will have a blast!
