Fort thefts.... They got ME !!

Stacktester,

You are right on about parents lack of common sense and letting their kids run free without consequences. Maybe I am just old school for 38yo with three kids.

Why not implement a GPS speeding tracking systems for all carts in FW. Similar to what they have on golf carts at golf courses, when you are going to slow they send you message.

If you are going to fast at FW, you get a warning. Then you get fined. If you are off the beat and path, you get fined....... If you are bringing your own cart, push up the CC for the refundable down payment and get the transmitter and go. If security stops you and you don't have the GPS on your cart, either get fined or your cart is impounded.

It's not rocket science to solve these issues, the removal of private carts would be a detriment to the park and FW culture, with additional economic consequences to Disney. Don't think for a minute they don't realize this.

Maybe the fort goers should start self policing?

Id say Im the same way. (37 with 2.1 of them adopted)Both of my kids know, that if they do something they were told not to, theres going to be some type of consequence, depending on what they did. Whats so hard about it?

Youre right its not rocket science. The problem comes down to Disneys willingness to address the issues. If they feel, right wrong or indifferent, that by addressing certain issues, it becomes more of a probelm dealing with the irate, becuse their angels did nothing wrong, or they are right and Disney is wrong, they are more then likely going to drop the issue, bury their heads in the sand, and pretend the issue doesnt exist. Disney will do just about anything, to protect its image, including sacrificing the rest of us that know how to follow the rules, to apease the few that dont.

It's a shame rule breakers ruin it for everybody. No personal carts would ruin the fort for us. My dad is disabled and we have built his cart to haul his ECV around. No disney cart does that.

Using your cart for disability reasons would mean it would be allowed (I assume) -- IF private carts get restrictions put on them.

Who the HECK allows their kids to bring paintball guns to the Fort??? Absolute idiots, that's who!

We had fun renting a cart for a day at the Fort... and I did not allow my 13 year old son to drive it! And he survived!

I didn't think the carts, rental or private, were that bad when we were at the Fort in 2008. But, it was in October, and the Fort was very quiet.

As to theft and private carts... are managers thinking that thieves use private carts to get in and out of the loops quickly? A cart "looping" would draw much less attention than a vehicle looping.

The thing about putting a kid on a golf cart, is that no matter what happens, the parents are always going to side with the kids. Right wrong or indifferent. There kid was an angel, and never did anything wrong, even though they were riding down the middle of the street, with paintball guns, shooting at anything that moved, late at night. That happened. I know because I was on the receiving end, driving one of the superbusses thru the Fort, doing a special drop off from PI, before I went home.Found out later, that they also got a Chip/Dale bus, and a Boone or a Crockett. Security found the kids, along with the Fort management, and the next night, they were at it again. Fort told me that there was several people who had complained about having vehicles painted.Afaik, nothing was ever done.

Why didn't you file a police report? I am sure that there was some "damage" :thanks: to your vechiles? File an accident claim against the parent's insurance carrier

I was driving one of Disneys busses. One of the Superbusses to be exact. We didnt normally take the super busse in there, since there was only 2 of them, and there really wasnt a need in there. Except when it stormed and RC was still open, and the RC busses got hit hard. Then wed make pass thru the RC bus stop, and go to the parking lot, on our way to either PI or Epcot which was the normal homes of the SB. Or during training. That night I was running a couple of Fort guests in to one of the stops, since I was going home anyway, had to pass it, and rather then make them transfer 2 times from PI. I went thru the motions of having security come out to FIW,filling out all of the required Disney paperwork etc, to look at the trailer, had the night bus manager out there also, and a Fort manager, and thats when one of the Chip/Dales came in and the Boone or the Crockett came in right after that, both with paint on them, and they narrowed down the area the kids were staying. The Fort manager, seemed to know exactly where to find the "angels", without to much info from us.(I got the impression, hed dealt with them before)The next night, I didnt go into the Fort, but talked to the FIW lead, and they were telling me the kids were at it again, and that they (security and the Fort) knew who they were. Nothing was done, and it hapened a few more times after that also, that one or more of the Fort busses came in with paint from the paint ball guns on them.
Disney is Disney. The paint washed off, as soon as we ran the busses thru the wash, (trust me, its was a PITA to run the SB thru the wash.Someone physically has to hold the brushes back, until the tractor is thru, and we had to hold a specific position in the wash,) and there was a few small dings from some of the pelletts, but security and management didnt pursue it any furthere afaik, since it happened at 2 more times.

How did this become from someone getting their stuff stolen to let’s ban private carts?

No one is saying "let's ban private carts". What happened was, when I was talking to the managers at the Fort about someone stealing my charger, I was told by them that there has been a rash of thefts and "other issues" that they were trying to address. One of the "other" issues was kids driving carts and "suped up" carts speeding around the fort. (totally unrelated to my theft).

They told me that they were taking new more extreme measure to try and combat these problems. Like the new secured parking lot (I'm assuming was to try and control who goes in the fort) and banning private carts (if people cant follow the rules) 2 totally different issues.

Kungaloosh:

1/4 cup blackberry brandy
1/4 cup Capt Morgan's spiced rum
1/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup strawberry daiquiri mix

mix in blender with enough ice to make slushy.

The reason for not allowing kayaks, and also canoes, is that the water at certain times of the year, has a bacteria in it that has been known to cause illness and even death. Which is the same water that was in RC. Out in the middle of the lake, where they do the parasailing, its a non issue, becuase the bacteria, lives in the shallow water, needs a certain temperature to survive and be viable, and gets stirred up by simply walking thru the sand.

.

This has nothing to do with not allowing private watercraft, otherwise Disney wouldn't allow their own canoes and kayaks, which they do. Disney does not allow private watercraft so that they may maintain control over their waterways.

When I worked for Disney and at the fort in the 80’s we had problems with kids driven carts. I've taken carts form kids many of times just to have Disney give it back sometimes 3-4 times. This is nothing new and here we are 2010 still talking about the same thing. Disney’s banning on private carts. Disney started talking about that the day after they started letting them in.

The Fort needs to enforce the rules they have in place and get control of their security. They can't count on people doing the right thing because a lot of people just don't care. They feel they are entitled to do whatever they want and to you know where with everyone else. They teach their children this same idiotic theory. They have no respect for others nor others property. :headache:

I agree 100%! Unfortunately, this is the world we live in, and whether you're at Disney or in the "real world", this kind of stuff goes on and no one does anything about it. No one thinks about the big picture anymore, and how their actions might affect others. It's just "me, me, me" all the time. It's been going on for decades now, and I doubt it's going to change any time soon. I just try to do my part to make sure I'm not part of the problem (then, again, I'm one of those people who never drives over the speed limit and always comes to a full and complete stop:rotfl:).

It takes a village to raise idiots. Or is that it takes the village idiot to raise the village? Or is it the the village raises its own idiots? Oh....who knows?:confused3 Only morans visit typhone lagone.

I remember in the early 90's we were staying at the Contemporary and thieves stole the damned bedliner out of my aunts truck. It was parked not very far from the guard shack. Thieves aren't choosy where they still stuff. I know it doesn't take much to get a bedliner out but wow, I couldn't believe they took something that big.

As far as the kids shooting paintball guns and nothing being done I'd have to take the law in my own hands. My cousin was big into them a few years ago and I've seen the power they have. Why do you think they wear so much protection.

I know. A few guys I work with, were into them for a while.

If it were my personal vehicle, I would have done things alot differently.Someones parents would have had a lot of explaining to do, and a blank check in hand.Unfortunately, Disney doesnt see things they way we do. The 1 thing I learned from working there, is there is only so much you can do. Do your job to the best of your abilities, and if management wants to do something different theres not much I could do about it. Its there head ache/problem/explanation at that point.

I'm a rock star.

I don't see the resemblance!
