Fort thefts.... They got ME !!

and the refusal to follow rules because the owners feel Disney has no authority over them has created a hazard. I'm getting a little tired of nearly being run over while I ride my bike by a lifted, overpowered cart driven by an 8 year old supervised by a severly intoxicated "adult". And that's all I'm gonna say about that.

But they don't enforce the rules on their own carts either

I'm not defending Disney for that. I agree they should be enforcing rules on their own carts, and in fact, there is no reason, outside of the economic factor, for them not to. At least theirs look like golf carts, and are of normal power, and the operators can't claim that Disney can't tell them what to do because Disney doesn't own the cart, which is the most inane argument I have ever heard.

As stacktester (Donnie) said I am also surprised that they don't charge a "token fee" and issue a numbered, traceable sticker like they to at other CG such as the KY Horse Park, $25.00 a visit, $50.00 a year (or whatever it is). That way there would be a way to trace/report the violators. It would not only help the Disney POPO but the guests would then have a way to report the violations as well. JMHO

Look,,I'm sorry. In my defense , I had no idea who that kid was,,I was to drunk to drive so I asked him to drive me.

I will be so upset if they ban private golf carts...we just bought one, specifically for the Fort!!! We just picked it up yesterday. I will be so disappointed if they go through with this.

John, I'm sorry to hear about your charger.

There's quite a few folks who have bought a cart specifically for the fort and I personally know a few that have them for disabilities. I think the decal is the best idea. When I told Jeff they would lose a lot of business he said that wasn't a worry. He said safety was the primary concern.

I would pay an annual trail fee personally to bring my cart if this meant we could keep bringing them.

IMHO, the only reason they would ban carts from the outside is because it is hurting their bottom line. It would have nothing to do with theft or otherwise. It will have everything to do with the fact that their fleet of carts is not being rented. There comes a point in time where you, as a corporation, raise the prices of a product to a point where the consumer no longer feels that it is viable to use that product at that price. It might be that Disney is at that point with the golf carts. Is their fleet being rented at full capacity? Are there always carts for rental available? Their rental fleet is a finite number, so they have figures to figure this out for themselves, which we all know their bean counters have. I believe that the economy and the fact that the prices are so high have had a negative effect on their rentals. A result most likely being Disney now has more carts available for rent than they would like sitting. More people have gone and bought their own carts because they cannot afford the prices and more people have stopped renting carts because of cost as well. The bottom line is that when Disney starts to lose money on something, it goes. They are not about to stop renting carts, so the reduction in rentals cause must go. I have my own personal cart because my limit on renting the carts was surpassed many a moon ago. My limit on what they charge for a site was passed when they put in the preferred and premium loops. My rear is slowly being phased out and my old butt is finding other places to go. Corporate bean counters will eventually phase me out completely.

I see more Disney cart's breaking the rules then personal cart's at least 10 to 1.
I see way more kids driving Disney carts then personal cart's. I think a lot of rented cart's are just looked at as another E-ticket for there kids.

I did not mean anything bad about any one who rents a cart. So don't take it that way.

Okay Folks.....please don't go getting yourself all worked up about nuttin....

The first time I heard they were going to ban private golf carts was back in 2002. If they haven't done it in 8 years, they're not likely to do it any time soon. So, sit back, relax, and find something else to worry about. But....do it within the confines of the Disney rules!

Even if a cart was say $30 a day I wouldn't rent one. I guess it's just not that needed for us. although they're nice to have I could get by without it.

One thing I've noticed is you can't bring your own kayak or canoe. I bet if I put my kayak in and paddled by the bike barn they would be telling me to take it out. Now why can't they tell a parent they're revoking their cart?

Jeff did say they have been taking some carts away without returning the renters money. He said they're also taking them and just returning the money to keep with the image they want. It really makes me wonder what a parent thinks when they send a kid off on a cart. You've got buses, moho's and other large vehicles to contend with not to mention pedestrians and bicycles. My daughter is almost 13 and even though I let her ride my cart all over my grandmothers farm I just don't see me sending her off at FW. Maybe some people just don't have any common sense for real and they're not just a freakin idiot.

I am not worried really. This old bird will leave the Fort for the final time when it finally comes to pass. I'll phase myself out.

I am suprised Disney hasn't banned private carts just so we would be forced to rent their carts.

I have noticed that a lot of people (not all) are a lot rougher on stuff that isn't theirs then they would be with their own stuff. Some people have no respect for others property. Although there are some idiots who spend lots of money on their carts and do stupid stuff with them too. Most of those idiots are spending someone elses money not their own. We work too hard for our stuff to be doing something stupid.

Just saying!

I agree that first of all, that the rental carts are abused way more than private carts. Also, parents are more likely to let an underage kid drive one, not realizing the potential dangers involved. Disney should enforce the cart rules more stringently. And take rentalcarts away from violators. The cart I use even has liability and medical coverage.
I would pay a fee to use my own cart, though I would rather not.

Crime, no matter where you live or visit, is always with us, but when it happens on vacation, especially the happiest place on Earth it hurts worse.

Usage fee...kinda like renting your own cart? Wheres the line start for this great incentive!

You can all say you heard it here first.

When Bush and Clinton were president, private carts were allowed at the fort.

The end.

The reason for not allowing kayaks, and also canoes, is that the water at certain times of the year, has a bacteria in it that has been known to cause illness and even death. Which is the same water that was in RC. Out in the middle of the lake, where they do the parasailing, its a non issue, becuase the bacteria, lives in the shallow water, needs a certain temperature to survive and be viable, and gets stirred up by simply walking thru the sand.

The thing about putting a kid on a golf cart, is that no matter what happens, the parents are always going to side with the kids. Right wrong or indifferent. There kid was an angel, and never did anything wrong, even though they were riding down the middle of the street, with paintball guns, shooting at anything that moved, late at night. That happened. I know because I was on the receiving end, driving one of the superbusses thru the Fort, doing a special drop off from PI, before I went home.Found out later, that they also got a Chip/Dale bus, and a Boone or a Crockett. Security found the kids, along with the Fort management, and the next night, they were at it again. Fort told me that there was several people who had complained about having vehicles painted.Afaik, nothing was ever done.

To me at least, there is no such thing as discipline anymore, with alot of parents, and they let there kids get away with anything they want. As much as I hate to bring it up, I keep remembering the kid that was hit by the bus not long ago. The bus was were it was supposed to be, and the kid was in the street, but according to the parents, it was the busses fault.

Stacktester,

You are right on about parents lack of common sense and letting their kids run free without consequences. Maybe I am just old school for 38yo with three kids.

Why not implement a GPS speeding tracking systems for all carts in FW. Similar to what they have on golf carts at golf courses, when you are going to slow they send you message.

If you are going to fast at FW, you get a warning. Then you get fined. If you are off the beat and path, you get fined....... If you are bringing your own cart, push up the CC for the refundable down payment and get the transmitter and go. If security stops you and you don't have the GPS on your cart, either get fined or your cart is impounded.

It's not rocket science to solve these issues, the removal of private carts would be a detriment to the park and FW culture, with additional economic consequences to Disney. Don't think for a minute they don't realize this.

Maybe the fort goers should start self policing?
