Hi , we've booked to go to Fort Myers beach. Advice on restaurants and any tips on what it's like would be appreciated :goodvibes

My parents own a place in Naples, just south of Ft. Myers beach and have been down to that area many, many times. It is a great place and I know you and the family will have a great time.

First off, I might be a little biased, but I would definitely suggest spending a mix of time both on/in Ft. Myers beach and in the surrounding areas (especially Naples). Some great places to check out are Sanibel and Captiva islands to the north (short drive depending on where in Ft. Myers beach you are staying). They are very relaxing and have great beaches without a lot of people. Also venturing down to Bonita and Naples will be great too. Naples has lots of very nice shopping and restaurants to offer. Ft. Myers beach is really nice too, but it does have more people and tends to be a little commercialized. I would avoid eating at some of the places right on/in Ft. Myers beach for dinner as they can be overpriced and some can be tourist traps. The best food we have found has been at some of the local spots right off the main beach area. I would also suggest renting a car, as otherwise you will be limited to just Ft. Myers beach.

There is so much to do down there it is really hard to start. Is there anything specific that your family likes to do that I can help out with/suggest?

We had very good seafood and more right under the bridge on the Ft Meyers Beach side-the outdoor dining was overlooking the inland waterway to the east. I just cant remember the name and its been a few years so who knows.

Sounds fun.

one of my favorite places to eat near Fort Myers Beach. It is called Parrot Key. Fun atmosphere and the food is not too pricey. It has an "outdoor" section with usually a DJ or band. One time they had a karioke-type singer that entertained while you ate. Dancing available, too. Just before you get to the bridge to head over to Ft Myers Beach go left. There is a fish market on the right and just after that is Parrot Key! Enjoy! Making me want to go!!

You should also head to Sanibel for at least a day trip. Wear water shoes as their beaches are most crushed shells. Got the worst sunburn there while shelling. My kids like to eat at Cheeburger, Cheeburger! Fun burger and ice cream place. Always pretty busy, but good for family!

I am in Naples right now! I second the votes for Sanibel, or Captiva. I love Captiva. From most anywhere in Ft Myers beach to Sanibel is no more than 20 minutes, Captiva another 10-15 minutes. Go to the Mucky Duck in Captiva for an OK meal, but the best happy hour/sunset crowd around. Or tour South Seas resort, a beautiful spot that we can't wait to get back to.

Or come down this way to Naples, probably about a 40 minute drive at most. Come to shop on 5th and 3rd, and dine at any one of a bunch of GREAT restaurants. Though it's not the best restaurant, we always hit Tommy Bahamas on 3rd; the food is very good, the drinks are fantastic and the atmosphere is great.
Naples is beautiful.

Be sure to check out Pinchers right at the end of the bridge between Fort Myers and Fort Myer's Beach. There are quite a few of them in the area, but that one is our favorite.

Also if you do make it to Naples (and to the poster in Naples), our family's favorite place to eat is a small, family owned pizza/Italian place called Peppi's Pizzeria. They have some of the best pizza that we have ever had- the whole family is from Italy! Worth a visit. My favorites are the pepperoni and sausage pizza, bruscetta, and lasagna. Makes me want it right now!!! Just note thats its nothing fancy, but there is ample seating inside or you can get it for carryout.

I haven't been to Ft. Myers Beach for many, many years, but there used to be a restaurant near the bridge called Snug Harbor. It had great seafood.

I like Island Cafe on Sanibel, small restaurant with great breakfast. Then head south to Lighthouse beach. Really love the whole area, especially Naples.

There is a DocFord's restaurant in Ft Meyers Beach and Sanibel, and the Mucky Duck& Bubble Room on Captiva are fun. Great cakes at the Bubble Room.
