Formula 1 will NO LONGER be televised in the United States.

By that definition, NFL's "Thursday Night Football" is no longer televised in the United States. :rolleyes2
Actually it is… due to NFL rules it has to be simulcast on regular local TV in the local areas. In that case, the ABC stations in Cincinnati and Pittsburgh picked up the simulcast rights to this weeks game.

I think it's being televised. Even streaming services providing video means it's televised. But I guess it's going exclusive to a streaming service in the US for the first time.

Semantics obviously, but the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences considered programs on streaming services for the Emmy Awards. I would think a live broadcast that could be sent to a TV would then be considered televised programming.
That’s something if I were the guy who ran the Emmys. If a particular show didn’t get shown on live TV in its entirety, it wouldn’t be considered for an award.

Well half the US Mens National Team (Soccer) matches are only shown on streaming like Paramount + so to me that's much worse. If I have to pay to watch ANY National Team of the USA I think that's pretty messed up.

I subscribe to Paramount + so I can still watch it but I shouldn't have to.

I also subscribe to F1 TV so this wont be a big deal to many F1 fans who do like I do. Besides I like the changing views I can get on F1 TV rather than ESPN or ABC and all the commentary, etc.

If you only have F1TV the way it's been stated you would have to subscribe to Apple TV

"F1 TV Premium, F1’s own premier content offering, will continue to be available in the U.S. via an Apple TV subscription only and will be free for those who subscribe."

In sports it seems that in racing Indy Car Racing and Formula 1 Racing has seen a drop in viewership because it used to be next to NASCAR racing Formula 1 and Indy Car Racing were second and third. In my eyes why Formula 1 is moving to Apple TV is because streaming services have become the new places to see sports and Formula 1 probably signed a big contract with Apple TV because it means money. When I watched racing as a teenager I would sometimes see Formula 1 races before the Indy Car races on ABC and in the 90's ABC was big on Formula 1 racing and they would sometimes show them every Saturday and Indy Car racing was always on Sunday and that helped ABC get ratings. But it seems that for any sport streaming services are becoming in fashion. But it won't be long till NASCAR does the same thing in the future

Yes, it's all about the money. AppleTV offered F1 more money than broadcast networks. It's really that simple.

And, as PP mentioned, F1 fans will still be able to watch the races if they so choose.

Nascar already does that with exclusive races on Prime during the Summer. Other sports have been streaming for a few years now, like football with Thursday Night Football on Prime, Xmas games on Netflix and a couple others on Peacock.

Linear television (cable/sat) is slowly dying as many young people watch streaming instead of paying for expensive cable packages. Streaming is where the eyeballs are and sports recognize that, as do advertisers. F1 will do well on Apple. Their Friday night baseball package was outstanding as far as picture quality, game stats and announcers and I have no doubt the F1 package will be just as high quality.

If anything… Apple should at least sublicense the US based races to linear TV as a free trial to those fans who don’t have it yet. Put the Miami, Austin and Las Vegas races on a network like Fox, just like MLS does.

It's all about money. It should be obvious linear TV isn't interested in spending the money for F1.
