Hi What forms of ID are accepted around disney and universal? Also do they accept photocopys of passports or driving licence?

We have never needed ID in the past, but I believe they are more particular now in certain places. I have photocopied and laminated the Info pages of our passports as I really don't want to carry them around, but I don't know yet if they're acceptable.

I dont think they accept photocopys but Im not sure. When I went to DTD last time I had to take my passport to show I was over 21.

We only got asked for ID 3 times.

Once at Busch - just showed my passport.

Once at Subway - accepted both our credit cards as ID

Once at Disney - but CM didn't realise it was a cc then when she realised it once didn't ID.

I wondered about this too. We have booked some back stage tours and have been told we will need to take photo ID with us. The only photo ID we have is our passports (we all have the old style driving licence which does not have a picture on.) I don't really want to carry my passport around with me, but guess I will have to.

Why not just send away for the new style driving licences now? That is what we are going to do for next time.

I have been asked for ID before at Downtown Disney and I provided my Passport and my DH provided his Picture Drivers license which were both accepted but I know they would not accept photocopies.

I also found that going around Epcot at world showcase they are VERY particular about alcohol and who they give it to. They will not accept anyone buying a beverage for someone else without seeing the proper ID especially if you look under 30!

I have also found that when using Travellers cheques worth a $100 or more depending on the vendor you will be asked for ID but generally a credit card rather than picture ID is acceptable.

Hope this helps. :)

Hi

Sorry to butt in on this thread but I don't have a credit card so does that mean I'd be best to carry my passport around with me? I do have a new picture drivers license but won't actually be driving on holiday although I would feel safer carrying it around than my passport!

Hi

I too now have a picture Drivers license so will be carrying that around rather than my passport. I used my passport previously as I did not have the new Picture drivers licence.
It's always better to have some form of ID available and I think the drivers licence is the best bet if you have the new Picture version.

Thanks! I always feel nervous carrying my passport around with me. I'd much rather loose my drivers license than passport! :D

Can I butt in too? I've just received my first ever provisional driving license today, does anyone know if that will be accepted as ID in the USA? I haven't even had my first lesson yet so there's no way I'll be passing my test before Sept 30th when we fly! I'd rather carry that around with me than my passport but I don't know if the Americans will accept it as it has "provisional" stamped all over it and it's a different colour to a full license. I don't want them thinking it's some really bad forgery!

I can only add for sure that of course how often you get carded is going to be drastic from one individual to the next. Some people look young for their age and others (my condolences you old farts lol) dont. They are definitely going to want a picture ID for sure in the event they card you.

Don't forget that it is illegal to make a colour copy of your passport.

Although my DH and I didn't drive last year, we both took our new-style photo drivers licenses with us to use solely if we were asked for ID.

I was often asked for ID if alcohol was involved (DH wasn't) but both of us were asked for ID when cashing travellers cheques at different stores.

Been to disney twice and had to use my passport as i.d.. They won't take photocopied i.d. as it could be false!!

Do they accept anything with DOB on it as I would much rather use a gym card or student card and risk losing that rather then my lisence or pasport

Soprano: No ID isn't just for alcohol. Sometimes while cashing travellers cheques, the cashier might ask for ID. Some parks are also asking for ID when you enter - I think it was Universal and Sea World that requested ID last year (but only for adults, not children).

a_hobden: Maybe a student card would be acceptable if it has your photo on it as this would be from an "official" source as opposed to a gym.

I think all adults in the US are supposed to carry ID with them at all times - I'm sure we were told that by a rep. many years ago. Maybe someone else can verify? :confused3

Gill, this is actually illegal. I'm not sure what would happen, but I would not risk it.

EDIT - Sorry, just seen that this has already been mentioned.

we bought e-tickets in may from the universal sight and priinted them at home, the first day we activated them the guy on the turnstile at universal studios wanted to see photo ID, everyone in our party had a photo drivers license except my mum, who is 67 and does not drive, she showed him her bus pass and he was happy with that! so it seems anything will do :rotfl: :rotfl:
