Has anyone recently stayed in a room that was a formerly smoking room? If so, did the smoke smell linger, or did WDW do a good job at giving the rooms a complete cleaning (carpet, curtains, etc.) TIA!

We stayed at the CBR for 10 days the first week of June. We were given a free upgrade to Martinique. I believe our room used to be a non-smoking room. If it wasn't, then somebody had been smoking in the room. It didn't smell strongly of smoke but there was just a hint of it there. Wasn't bad enough to say anything to the front desk about.

I am praying that we get a truly smoke free room. Neither of us could handle a smoking room with our asthma. Maggie

From what I have read on here and other places is that Disney is going to go through each resort and refurbish each previous smoking room down to the walls..meaning fresh paint, wallpaper, drapes, carpet and bedding. As the rooms are completed, they are put back into circulation to be rented out.

I think this is probably overly optimistic. I bet all the smoking rooms are ALREADY being used as nonsmoking rooms....

I agree with jodifla...I think we'd be lucky if they changed the bedding. I can see steam cleaning the carpets etc, but it would be impossible to do all those changes in so many rooms overnight.

Actually it was a CM that I spoke with and asked the question to and was told that this is the only way to get the room to be fresh.

I was not told that these would be all done "overnight". They would be taking the smoking rooms out of commission and as they were refurbished, they would go back into the inventory.

This makes perfect sense as such a small potion of the rooms were smoking allowed before, we would not even know that these rooms were curreently "closed" for refurb.....

And THAT makes sense, given that only 840 or 850 rooms out of over 20,000 were previously designated as smoking-optional rooms.

Exactly. The only reason why the CM told me this is that I have bad allergies to to smoke and was worried when I made my reservation. I really wanted to ask for 6th floor at WL and I know that the rooms on the North side woods were previously smoking rooms, so I was concerned. He didn't say that they would replace the furniture, but he did say wallpaper, carpet and padding, matress and bedding would all be replaced as well as fresh paint. :goodvibes

I called WDW last week after our two year DS had a really bad Asthma flare up and ended up in the ER. We had just gotten back from staying in a hotel that had recently "converted" and we were pretty sure our room used to be a smoking room (it smelled heavily of an ozonator). WDW instructed me to contact the resort 5 days prior to arrival and let them know that we cannot, under any circumstance be in a room that was previously smoking due to his asthma and they supposedly will take care of it. I am hoping that this will do the trick!

When I asked about the previous smoking rooms, I explained about my asthma and problems with smoke. I was told they would try to make sure I got one that was non-smoking previously so that I didn't have any problems. The CM went on to say that if the room we were given did smell like smoke, to ask to be moved.
I could be wrong, but to me, that doesn't sound like they are changing things out, just giving the room a "treatment".
