Former President Biden was diagnosed with caner

Likely didn't show any symptoms. Sadly, if it is aggressive it can spread fast.

I wish him nothing but the best for a full and speedy recovery. Cancer sucks!
As a 68 year old man I wondered why this wasn't found years ago with a routine PSA test. It is a test I have every year or two. However, a bit of research reveals it is advised that men no longer need a PSA test after age 70. Guess not much different that the general practice for women not to have a Pap Smear after age 65. I am seeing a lot of Doctors say it is their opinion based on a Gleason ranking of 9 that Biden has had this cancer for five or six years. In cold, impersonal statistics, with treatment, this will not shorten his life or be the cause of his death.

The PSA test does not detect all types of prostate cancer, just as a mammogram does not detect all types of breast cancer.

It doesn't detect anything if it isn't done. But the type Biden has is one that is detectable with a PSA test. But as I said, at his age, a PSA test would not normally have been done.

65 here and I have been having routine psa test twice a year for years. Caught mine very early. My PSA would keep going up and down so Dr had me get a biopsy and then pet scan. Just finished radiation in April. Men need to get tested. Nothing to it

My grandfather died of prostate cancer when he was 78. My dad decided to have his prostate removed as a preventative measure when he was in his 60s, I believe. He is now 83 and has that PSA test every three months. The number has gotten too high again and his doctor has recommended hormone therapy or radiation. He's opted for the radiation and will have that done this summer. I guess the risk never goes away?

I had cancer and a prostate removal. Have to agree, very strange this was not caught sooner. I think it is pretty standard to get a PSA test every year, plus the digital exam.

It did read there was no PSA test mentioned in his 2024 check up and he had a history of prostate issues. Not sure why anyone would want to stop testing at age 70, its only a blood test. I can understand why someone over 70 would not want treatment depending on the level of the tests, but you at least should be monitoring.

BTW this was my surgical history, if anyone is in the situation
Actual surgery robotically was pretty easy, overnight in the hospital
Catheter for about 10 days, not fun but you deal with it
I regained urinary function fairly quickly like a month, but you do have to be careful when you sneeze
Sexual function takes longer, more like 1-2 years

Its real important to find a real good surgeon, it is a very delicate surgery> There is no rush, if you need to wait get the best guy, not first available. I shouldn't be giving medical advice, but from my journey they tend to over exaggerate PSA levels. I was up to a 7 and had very little cancer. The ones with really bad cases were usually over 50-100. If you score a 5, you might be a little over recommended but nothing to freak out over.
