She's not a straw, wonder. Don't suck up.your great spirit and remarkable good-sport-ness never cease to amaze me. if you could bottle and sell what you're all about, you'd exceed oprah in earnings and the world would be a better place.
Honu, sorry that the monster is still in there. But at least you get to scope out more hot guys.![]()
I go to the doc on June 8th to test for hypothyroidism. Anything I should know to ask her about it? I'm going to make sure she tests for not only TSH but FT3 and FT4.
Six years ago I had it tested, levels came back around 4. Former doc said borderline but no hypo and he refused to test FT3 and 4. He used 5 as the cut off. Turns out that year endocrinologists lowered the levels to 2-3 and he was either unaware of it or ignored it. I'm guessing the latter since he refused to do further tests even though I asked him to.
So an RN friend of mine said I've probably had undiagnosed hypothyroidism for years. Thanks doc!
Honu, I'm sorry it's still there.
Tink, I'm hypothyroid. Make sure she does a TOTAL T3 and T4. Also, ask her to put you on Armour thyroid. It contains both T3 and T4 and you need one to make the other. Armour is made from dessicated cow and pork thyroid. It smells like crap but it works wonderfully
.
Synthroid and the other artificial thyroid meds do not contain both they only contain T4 when your body needs T3 to make T4. I went through hell until I found an internist who switched me from Synthroid.
Your doctor might say that it isn't regulated but it is by the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP). The pharmaceutical companies hate it because it costs like $10 for a month's supply. It was a freakin' miraculous change.
Any doctor that still uses 5 as the cut off should have his license revoked for stupidity! Some doctors are even setting lower numbers because they look at the symptoms and not just at the blood test results.
Some symptoms:
# Cold intolerance
# Constipated
# Dry skin
# Hair falling out
# Swelling and fluid retention
# Difficulty in concentrating (brain fog)
# Brittle nails
# Inability to get fever
# Weight gain (or can not get it off)
# Coarse skin-especially heels
# Yellow palms
# Cold feet
#period irregularites
# head aches
This is a very short list of symptoms that I had to go through. There must have been 100.
Good luck!!!
If it comes back hypo, and I'm sure it will, I'll ask for Armour. I have all those symptoms, too.![]()
Have you lost any weight with your meds? What about the brain fog or libido? Periods? Anythin gotten better?
Honu, sorry that the monster is still in there. But at least you get to scope out more hot guys.![]()
Anytime I get to scope out hot guys is a good time. There's something about being in a wheelchair too that turns on that manly drive to protect you and fix you.

Just joshing you, of course. She complains far less than I probably would.
Okay, DHEA. I read that hypo can cause no libido so I didn't think of DHEA.Everything is better!!! I was even having very bad depression and the thyroid cleared that up !! No meds for depression for the last 9 years after having been on them for 10 years. When I lost weight, I kept it off. Libido is tons better-ask her about DHEA because hypothyroidism and low levels of DHEA can go hand in hand. Low DHEA=no libido. The brain fog clearing was, to me, the best of all. I love to read and didn't have to read and re read the same passages over and over again and when I needed to make a point, I could concentrate. Armour gave me back my life.
First off, if I forget, happy birthday!I would probably ask for a referral to an endo if that's not where you're going. GP's think they can deal with hypothyroid issues, but really, they're not trained in it. Most docs are still unaware that they've lowered the numbers.
If they won't give you armour, ask for the regular NOT the generic of whatever they give you. Apparently a lot of people have issues on the generic that they don't have on the regular one.
Don't let them get away with not doing the free T3 and T4. Most docs only do the T3 and refuse to do the T4.
Thanks Tink! By the way, you're appointment with the doc is on my birthday! I'm going to be the big 3-1 this year. I'm getting old...![]()
Okay, DHEA. I read that hypo can cause no libido so I didn't think of DHEA.
Have them check your level of DHEA before you take any and find someone who is used to supplementing with this before you start. Too much can have nasty consequences. It has an effect on the adrenal glands and if I remember correctly has something to do with the testosterone/aldosterone production. I only take 25 mg every day.
I constantly ask DH the same thing over and over or tell him the same things repeatedly. It's gotten worse after pregnancy and childbirth.
I'm also concerned about weight, though. I need to lose around 40 pounds, maybe more. I can't lose anything and it's infuriating.
That's the worst part of hypothyroidism, not being able to lose weight! And the fatigue. Ugh. So annoying.
First off, if I forget, happy birthday!31 is not old.
Thanks! I feel old...
I'm going to ask for Armour. She's an ARNP so I'm hoping she'll listen. I'm also going to take some update hypo stuff in case she's not up to date. She's likely to refer me to an endo. Can't see why she wouldn't. I'll ask if she doesn't offer, though.
If you need a good endo, try Dr. Davies at the Polyclinic in Seattle. I have to look in my notes, but I know of a few other ones in the Seattle area too. Most of the ones I know do pituitary stuff, but Dr. Davies seems to do it all and the people that have gone to him seem to really like him.
Gah, I hate Seattle. It also depends on if Dr. Davies accepts my insurance. I'll have to find one here in CA, too.
As for DHEA, I don't know if I want to mess with testosterone. Let's see how the Armour helps first.
I hate Seattle too. I just don't know any endos anywhere else. I know the Polyclinic takes a bunch of different insurances. I know one in CA... but you might not be messed up enough for him. I don't think he does just routine stuff. He likes the hard to figure out patients like me.![]()
What's his name and where is he? Even if I'm not messed up enoughhe can point me in the direction of another endo. I don't know what my levels will be. TSH levels around 4 was six years ago.
Cool, I'll have to look him up. Growth hormone deficient due to thyroid and pituitary...could be why I'm 5'1".
His name is Dr. Ted Friedman. He's in Beverly Hills. He has quite the odd practice. He's a researcher by day and a clinician a few nights a week. We call him the "Wizard". He's my endo. His website is http://www.goodhormonehealth.com/ We allhis assistant, Dr. Zuckerbraun. He's so cute and friendly. He'll talk your ear off. I actually hope I'm growth hormone deficient so I can get into one of his studies and spend the whole day with him.
I guarantee though, if you've got anything else wrong with you, he'll find it.
Cool, I'll have to look him up. Growth hormone deficient due to thyroid and pituitary...could be why I'm 5'1".I'm the shortest person in my family.
Could be, you'll never know! Dr. Friedman is really cool. He's just about the only doc (other than McCutie the surgeon) that will actually listen to you and goes by symptoms not just test results.
Hey, cute docs are off limits for me. I'm married, remember? And maybe I don't want anything else to be wrong with me. LOL
Hey Honu....I'm going to see Tiger Woods play this week!
I'll take pics if I can and post them. I think they still let you take cameras into the practice rounds.

Why can't more docs be like that? If you're borderline and having major symptoms, shouldn't they listen to you?Could be, you'll never know! Dr. Friedman is really cool. He's just about the only doc (other than McCutie the surgeon) that will actually listen to you and goes by symptoms not just test results.
I still look but choose not to look hard or long. I mean, I'll pass someone and think, "Oh, he's cute" but then poof, the thought's gone. KWIM?Hey now, you're eyes ain't broke. You can still look. He's married anyway with a kid. I don't want anything else to be wrong with you either! I want the GH deficency so I can hang out with him, I'm single, remember?
Actually though, if I had to pick one person to go on a date with right now, it would be my Lone Survivor.![]()
Cool!
Hey, I had a dream. I'll have to tell you about it sometime.
Oooo, dreams!I can't wait. I'm getting better at the interp thing too.
I've had a few myself.....you really need to fix things chickie.
Honu, I'll take as many pics as I can. I think today's the last day we can bring cameras because it's still a practice round. Although I think there's a skins game today too.
Catch y'all later.![]()
