Hi! Just wondering what the deal is with Formal nights. Does the whole ship have formal night together, or is based on which restaurant you are attending that evening. I am just curious if you have people in formal wear on their way to one restaurant, with others in casual wear going to another restauarant.

My other cruise experiences have been that the whole ship has formal night together, regardless of where they are dining that evening, and I always liked the mood of excitement. I have no experience with rotational dining, so I am just curious!

Also, when are the traditional formal nights on a 7 day Eastern?

Thanks 1,000,000!

Hey Peg --
Check out this great web site created by one of the people here from the Dis boards -- it shows exactly what the schedule is for the dining rotations. Very well done!

The entire cruise ship has the same "themes" each evening even though they are in different restaurants. Formal night and semi-formal night are the same for everyone, even though people will be in different restaurants.

Check out the link, it helps a lot!

HTH!

It really is a fun and festive evening when everyone gets dressed up...I mean everyone....including passengers, crew (the cruise staff looks so handsome in their tuxs') and our hosts, Mickey and Minnie....here they are in their formal wear....

Most people do change out of their formal clothes after dinner to go and have fun the clubs, up on deck, whatever, but you certainly do not have to!!!!

JCarangal....thanks so much for the nice comments about the my charts!!!

Thanks you guys. I will definitely check out MJ's site...she has never steered me wrong thus far. I am so glad to hear that Formal night is an event that the whole ship enjoys together...that must be "magical." Looking foward to our November cruise...our first Disney!

Thanks again!

PS MJ: Maybe I will bump into you at Northvale ShopRite! Do you wear a lime green ribbon there? LOL

I checked out MJ's site that you recommended. What a helpful guise...I printed it out to bring along!

Thanks again!

Just when I think I have this rotation thing and the fashion of the evening figured out, I read something that said the dress for Lumiere's is semi-formal. It's a good possibility that my family and I will get the late LAP rotation, which would mean that the first evening on ship we may be dressing up semi-formally. It would also mean we could have up to four nights of semi-formal dress if we go to Palo one night. Any clarifications on this mess would be greatly appreciated. And am I correct in assuming that we could end up at Parrot Cay on formal night? Thanks for any help.

Lumiere's, Parrot Cay, and Animator's Palate have exactly the same recommended dress — one formal night, one semi-formal night and one tropical night — on exactly the same night in each dining room. The other four nights are resort casual ("no shorts or jeans, please"). So don't worry that your dining rotation will affect the recommended dress.

At one time, they recommended a jacket for Lumiere's on the casual nights, but that stopped some time last year, according to Navigators posted at http://www.dcltribute.com .

Palo is not "semi-formal" (except on semi-formal night). On the five nights that aren't formal or semi-formal in all the dining rooms, it's just "jacket recommended, no shorts or jeans please." It feels right to dress up for Palo, but that doesn't have to mean a suit or a tux (except on the formal night, when that would be most appropriate).

In any case, DCL merely recommends certain dress — it's not a mandatory dress code. But it's fun to "get with the program" — to enhance the cruise experience for yourself and for those around you.

Dis4me......that is too funny....I am always in Northvale SR....not wearing lime green though....maybe I should start!!!! I am just a mile or so over the border!!

Cruzin1st.....As Werner stated Lumiere's used to require a Jacket, but that has been dropped. You only need to dress up for Formal and Semi-Formal no matter what restaurant you are in. Well, Palo, of course as well.

Don't forget to dress for Tropical night as well....the whole ship get in the festive mood for that night as well. The dining room tables are decorated and there is a great deck party on Deck 9 that starts after late dinner!! All passengers, crew and characters are wearing their tropical outfits!!!

I love tropical night! And, before our last cruise I found a great place to buy tropical shirts, skirts, dresses, etc. They even have matching men's shirts/women's dresses!

Thank you both SO MUCH. Now it sounds like more fun and not as much work. I was lying awake at night trying to think of more ways to dress up the black silk pants for semi-formal. I read the Lumiere semi-formal thing on the Magical Disney Cruise Guide, and was hoping it was outdated. I knew about tropical night, which, to me, would be a fun casual night also, and I've been buying new tropical outfits for the family. Can't wait!! And I'm definitely going to try out that website right now.
Thanks again for clarifying this. Can't understand why it seems so complicated, but the wonderful people on this board always make it sound so easy.
