Formal night ??

Here's something I just thought of and am a little scared about!

I've never been through the security and checked baggage and all of those things. Is there a limit like an airline? Can I bring his tux and my ballgown in a garment bag or are we going to have to put them in a suitcase?

I just thought about the luggage tonight... and heck I pack 4 suitcases for a 5 night trip (and that's just clothes and no, that's NOT overpacking.) so I don't know what I'm going to do for this! :scared:

No baby, you can carry on your garment bag, as long as it'll fit thru the ex-ray machine.
But I'm sorry,no, you cannot bring Molly :cat: ;)

p.s. Remember, you can store your suitcases under the bed...it lifts up.

Awesome thank you! :) It'll be so much easier to use a garment bag than try to stuff that thing in a suitcase! :crazy2:

And with the way she's acting tonight Miss Molly wouldn't be allowed to go! ;) I've had to tell her 5 times... "No honey, mommy doesn't like it when you randomly jump onto her desk and bite her sunburn as hard as you can."

She's kinda mad at us because we left her at home while we went on an overnight :rotfl:

The bed lifts up :confused3 .... Wow, I didn't know that... I've got to remember that. I am always tripping over extra suitcases. I'm always learning something new :disrocks: . How big of a suitcase fits under the bed?

I found this out "after the fact" myself. It seems that that's where the room steward always puts the bedspread when he/she does the turn down every night. I forget which thread I read this on. :confused3 I would think you could put a pretty good sized one under there though.

You'll definitely fit in! We donned the tux and long dress for formal night on our first cruise and will be doing it again in January. DH created quite a stir in his Disney tuxedo vest (found it on ebay), too. There were plenty of folks who dressed up for both the formal and semi-formal nights. Loved seeing the younger ones in their finery, too.

:thumbsup2 eBay!

I don't have the link for my trip report but here's my experience. I figured on getting a tuxedo because the rental option seemed pricey plus I was channeling my prom/military ball days where the tuxes were just bad. Now baby blue bad but just bad fit, polyester etc. :p So I checked online and found several tux retailers but then also checked eBay. I got a fantastic Joseph Abboud tux--brand new with tags, some formal shoes, a Mickey Mouse vest and bow tie all for about the same as the rental company! We also got a tuxedo for DS(5 months then). heh Actually, I took the tux to Men's Wearhhouse and they tailored the jacket and hemmed the pants in about an hour. I did spend a little extra and bought the formal shirt from Men's Wearhouse because I wanted a specific shirt (has a flap that hides the bow tie strap.

I also picked up an inexpensive black/silver satin vest from Burlington Coat Factory for semi formal night. Speaking of Burlington, I was there this weekend and you can get Men In Black suit (separates) for $99 or a tuxedo for $98. It may not be a fancy Ralph Lauren tux but it's cheaper (and better looking) than a rental.

Men can do the black suit trick if you do not own a tux and want to get dressed up.

You can pretty cheaply get a tux shirt/tie/cumberbund or vest.
I got mine for $25 with cufflinks too.

Then wear the black suit with tux shirt etc on formal nite and the black suite
again with just a shirt or shirt and tie on semi-formal nite.
Less packing.

I do a variation on this sometimes. I wear jet black pants with a white button down shirt and a black suede vest. No tie, and top button undone. Very island formal, yet still casual. It's formal but not tuxedo formal. The nice thing is you can also match the shirt color to a dress if that's important to you.
