Ok, just how formal is the formal night? I have a daughter that I cannot get to wear a pretty dress to save my life!

Formal night has been debated at length countless times on this board.

Regardless of your opinion of what is appropriate the fact of the matter is some people like to dress up and others do not.

For some, formal night means being "dressed to the nines" while others will show up in very casual attire.

I have never worn a tuxedo and I certainly don't want to start while on vacation so I have to say that I side with the casual attire folks.

That being said, I will tell you that there are a few options on formal night to have a family portrait taken with a nice DCL backdrop.

Since a Disney cruise doesn't come along that often for most and can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for some I would explain to your DD that you want her to put on a nice dress for about an hour and a half, maybe two hours so Mommy can have a picture and a night to remember the rest of her life.

I wish you luck,

Jeff

A lot of girls wear the princess dresses. That may be an option. Good luck. If she still does not go for that I would say find a nice pair of pants and a shirt and let her be comfortable. No sense making her wear a dress if she absolutely refuses and fighting over it just to have her sit at the table and sulk at dinner. Good Luck and I am sure that I will be having the same problem one of these days. princess:

Thanks! This makes me feel better. If I tried to put her in one of those REALLY dressy dresses, she'd spit nails at me all night! I am thinking I MIGHT be able to get her in a somewhat dressy dress, but I wouldn't bet on it.

The dressy pants are a really good idea, and I might have to go shopping for that (bummer! more shopping! )

Thanks again for your replies! We are SO excited!

I don't know where you live so I am not sure if there are any stores around you- but try Ltd too. They have the cutest skorts, and capris I could even get my 10 yr old Basketball, Soccer, Softball Star to wear without complaints. She even picked out a dress in there that I never considered because it was so girly girl and she loves it! Good luck and let her be happy in whatever she chooses, you will have lots of fun no matter what she has on :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl:

Hi all:wave:
As a Firefighter/Paramedic I have had to wear formal attire (class A uniform) more times than I can count... I do have a tux and did wear it on our last DCL formal night. As stated by other DIS'ers it is up to you. Hopefully no shorts or t-shirts:eek: LOL You will see it all on your cruise. You will get alltypes of opinionsbut, again it is up to you.. i think your daughter will look just beautiful in a gown. Make it a challengeprincess: I have a 14 yo DD and it is a challenge to get her in a dress:worship: Just have fun
