Traditionally, formal night is the 1st day at sea (the 2nd night of your cruise.) You're welcome to dress up any night, and often people don't bother to dress up at all.
Formal night and semi formal night. You can pretty much get as dressed up as you want or not. Or if you would rather skip it you can always grab buffet. But it is a good time to get pics. What we do is as soon as we get onboard and get our luggage, we send anything we might need for formal night to dry cleaning(even if just for pressing)
Yeah I worded that wrong. I meant if you would rather just avoid it for whatever reason you can opt to do the buffet. You can wear cruise casual, but I have known people who were self conscious and chose to avoid it altogether, otherwise they would somehow feel embarrassed.

Thanks for all of your replies. We have usually enjoyed formal night on other cruises, but I had been told that Disney doesn't have a formal night so wanted to check.
You can also go the other direction. DW & I 'dress for dinner' every night. she wears a nice dress while I wear at least a sport coat & tie. Tux & gown on formal nights too. It makes every dinner into a date! DDs like to dress up every night, but DS is at the age where he 'feels stupid' so he usually wears khakis & a Polo shirt. Whatever you choose have fun with it! Enjoy your cruise!
Someone after my own heart. We wear tuxes and gowns for all formal and semi-formal nights, dresses and suits on'cruise casual' nights. We also dress all out for pirate night and Halloween. You are right- it really feels like date night and I find it very romantic.

We pretty much do the same thing, to us its an oppurtunity to dress up and make it even more special, plus get some good pictures. I wear a tux on formal nights and while there aren't many you do see a few. You'll also see shorts and t-shirts...
Yes, on a 7-night cruise, you will have both a formal and a semi-formal night. Formal night is the second night, which is usually a sea day. Semi-formal night is most likely on another day at sea. It is up to you to dress however you would like. I have never seen anyone get turned away, but at Palo for dinner you would, if you came dressed in shorts and a tank top.
