Formal night and 16 year old son

For formal night, myself, and DD will dress up, DH will wear a suit. However DS doesn't own a suit nor do I want to buy him one and he doesn't want to wear it. Will he be OK in dress pants and a dress shirt with a tie???

You could have posted on our Oct. 29th thread, but yes...he'll be fine in a dress shirt, pants and tie. That is what my DS usually wears as well

DS13 & DS17 wore dress shirts, ties, dress slacks (well sort of, Dockers), dress shoes and those dumb little socks that barely show over the tops of their shoes. That was their "statement".

LOL!! My DS (17) wore those same socks to his prom! So did his friends -very acceptable attire amongst that age group! (I learned long ago to "pick my battles", and altho I thought it was absolutely ridiculous, I realized no one could see them anyway unless he sat down, in which case at the prom his feet would be under the table!)

Carol...my sentiments exactly!!! If they give 90%, the least we can do is give that 10%. It's not worth the argument! Actually, my boys picked out their own ties to wear(DS17 wore a black & white Mickey Mouse and DS13 wore a yellow rubber duckie ) and because of their ties were flagged down at the Captain's reception by the woman who is in charge of all the kid's activities on the entire ship. We ended up getting into quite a conversation with her because she's from Indiana and DS17 will be going to college in Indiana. We also discussed that they need to come up with something for the 18-21 age group.

And they'll be the death of the man's mother!! Oh well, there are worse things I guess! I keep telling myself, "he's got a good heart -that's what counts!!"

Ahhhhh, I just had a quick flashback to the "good ole days" - back when he & his brother (the one who now at college thinks it's just as good to Febreeze his clothing as to actually WASH it - apparently the general concensus among the guys on his campus, as their local CVS couldn't keep enough of it in stock) wore whatever I put out for him to wear, and had no opinion!!

Linda......Good luck with the college departure in August - it's REALLY fun to watch them figure out how much stuff you did for them that they took for granted - DS actually said that to me when he came home on break! It's just all the little things he never noticed until he was off on his own. He became much more appreciative. (Too bad it took thousands of tuition $$ for him to figure that out! )
