Formal and pirate nights

You can also call DCL any time and ask them if they are scheduled for your cruise. How long is your cruise....some of the shorter ones do not have a formal night.

Yes, Fantasy! I’ll have to look up the differences between formal and semi formal.
I found this on the internet:

At its most basic, contemporary formal dress generally encompasses both white tie and black tie dress codes. Semi formal, as the name implies, is slightly more relaxed – think a dark suit and a tie, or anything you’d refer to as “cocktail” dress.

That said, you'll find little difference between the two on DCL.

If you want the "formal" definition of the terms, formal evening attire is defined by white tie and coat with tails for gentlemen, whereas semi-formal evening attire would be black tie and a tuxedo coat without tails. For women, an evening gown would be appropriate for either.

As to the definition on DCL, there will be more people (but certainly not all) "dressed up" on formal night and that is the night that they will have professional photographers out to take "nice" pictures with the captain, backdrops, etc. The few people who wear tuxedos (black or white tie) and evening gowns will do so on the formal night. For semi-formal night, anything beyond a business suit would be unusual.

But hey--it's your vacation, do what you like. The people wearing jorts to formal night certainly will!

I did a tux on our first cruise, the only benefit being I didn't have to pack it as it was left in my stateroom for me. After that, I've done a suite and tie on formal night. I was in such the minority on formal night in a tux.
Anyway, given it's a 7-night Fantasy cruise I would imagine you will have formal night and pirate nite. Semi-formal night may be dictated by any other event (i.e. our upcoming cruise is a Star Wars cruise so our night 6 is Star Wars vs. semi-formal).
