Hello everyone. My family and I want to tent camp at FW and we wondering about bugs. Specifically anyone have any issues with bugs getting into their tents etc.? I live in Florida, but mercifully my interaction with unpleasant bugs has been at a minimum, but I want to see what I'm in for before heading off to camp. I know I'm silly, but I am really just a little girl who's apt to scream! :scared:

I've been tent camping at FW for many years, and I have never had a bug in my tent (besides a stray ant or fly)! I always keep the doors zipped closed tight! :goodvibes

Rhonda's exactly right. Keep your food put up in rubbermaid totes/coolers and keep your tents zipped tight. There are some sprays that Wally Mart often carries that you can spray your equipment with to deter pests as well, just be sure to let it dry very well before use.

Scuttle, I would have to agree with Rhonda. You will keep your tent zipped up with the exception of when you are getting in and out of the tent. Most folks, during the day, will unzip and tuck away or temporarily remove parts of the tent exposing sections of mesh. That way you are enjoying the outdoors -- the sights, the smells, the sounds and maybe even the breeze but you have a nice barrier between yourself and bugs (the flying or the creeping kind).

I had never camped (and was not keen on the idea) when I married my outdoor-loving, experienced camping husband, and I too was worried about the creepy crawlies. Not only did I fall in love with camping but I found that there were far fewer "encounters of the buggy kind" than I would have expected.

Don't let that get in the way of enjoying a trip to FW. And just think, if you do scream like a little girl, you'll have another camping story you'll be able to laugh about later. :)

Thanks so much for the reassuring advice, I'm what you would call a California camper, I grew up camping in the Sierra Nevada where although there are some bugs we really did not have to worry about them, but knowing what I do about the creepy bugs that do live down here, I had to ask!!! I think we're planning for January or February and we miss camping so much!
