We are debating purchasing a Ford Taurus or Fusion. Haven't decided whether or not the Fusion will be a hybrid.

Does anybody have any experiences with either? Looking for honest opinions. A hybrid is very difficult to get any kind of a deal on as it is a much higher demand vehicle in NJ.

Has anyone gotten any good deals lately on a Ford? We are not trading in a car so the "swap your ride" propmotion is not applicable.

To me, the deciding factor would be what size car do you need. If you have a midsize family and need the room, then go for the Taurus. If you can get away with something smaller, then by all means, go with the Fusion. Both are excellent cars. You'd love the gas mileage that even the nonhybrid Fusion gets.

Wasn't the hybrid tax credit just phased out on April 1st? Of course it wouldn't have made much of a dent in the price of a new car anyway. :rotfl:

I've been researching 'commute cars' and the Fusion is on my short list, but since I don't want to buy new, I'd have to wait awhile if I wanted the hybrid version.

Last time I ran our numbers (for a civic, not a fusion) it would have taken us 10+ years of fuel savings to cover the upcharge on a hybrid. It still might have been worth it had our state not discontinued the alt fuel program that allowed hybrids in the car pool lane, but minus that, we went a different route then.

I'll be watching for replies too. :thumbsup2

We just got a certified preowned 07 Fusion (not a hybrid though). I love it! :lovestruc Drives nicely! I believe last time I filled it up it was $35 and when I looked at the gauge it said 317 miles til empty.

Thanks for your help. I didn't know anyone who owned a Fusion or a fairly new Taurus. It is always helpful to get opinions as they may bring to light something we may not have considered.

My last company used Tauruses as their company fleet vehicles.
They are ginormous. But nice.

Really the Fusion isn't much different, just smaller.

I personally wouldn't go with a hybrid unless you are doing it for environmental reasons. The increased $ you will pay is not negated by what you save on gas. But, frankly, after taking the I-CAR classes on hybrid vehicles (industry classes) I am TERRIFIED of the high voltage lines in the car, and for that reason alone I wouldn't get one when there was some other option. The HV battery is directly behind the rear seat on the Fusion... just... no.

Whatever you do, get Ford Sync. It is cool!

I just bought a new Fusion yesterday. We had many Tauruses over the years and were always happy with them. My company had also used them as company cars which was my first experience with them. I loved them and then my company went with the Camry which I also loved. My company did away with company cars and went to allowance and I still went with Camry. I got to the mileage allowance on the 07 Camry, so I had to trade again. I looked at both Toyota and Ford and Ford was much more willing to talk trade.

DH bought an 08 Focus and has been really happy with it.

We didn't test drive the new Taurus because it was more car than I wanted. That was the main reason I bought the last 2 Camry's was because the Taurus was more car than I wanted.

I got the SE model with the sunroof/sync package. I am not usually a gadget person and we are both in our 50's and had never had a sunroof, but I have to say I really LOVE both features and they didn't add that much to the price.

In December we bought an 2010 Ford Fusion Sport. We love everything about it. And this is after I swore in 2005 I would never buy a Ford again.

The Taurus has a few bells and whistles the Fusion doesn't have I think. But we didn't want something as big as the Taurus. Plus, I like the look of the Fusion Sport better.
