This thread is about Ford Mustangs. I'm writing it because there's another thread that we're hijacking, so maybe our own will be more respectful :)

I am a in weird spot where we own 3 mustangs right now and it's just me and the DW. We've bought a GT500 which is like the king of the mustangs. It 500hp. We pick this up on Tuesday night.

I'm trading in my 2010 Mustang GT which is heavily modified. That in laymans terms means I built it so it can go much faster and corner much quicker. I was building it to be a track car, but when I came across the GT500, I had to trade. In the mustang world, the GT500 is the car to own. It will be gone on Tuesday to a lucky owner.

Then the third Mustang GT is a 1997 convertible that we bought and had shipped from Connecticut. It was apparently a Florida car that found it's way probably via an auto auction to there. I spent 2 months restoring the interior after work and on the weekends. The inside of the car was completely ruined. Now...it's a blast. My DW calls it "Mr. Fun".

Here's a pic of when I was gutting in the interior.

Here's a pic of the interior 95% restored. Im waiting the back seats to come back from the upholstery shop.

We have owned 2 other Mustangs in the past and we really both enjoy the model and they are a blast to drive.

If you are interested in a board that caters to mustang owners, there are quite a few but I frequent the mustang forums themselves and it's a good group of folks. Can be a little dark and if you go...caveat emptor!

Please feel free to post pics or stories of your mustangs, any year, color and condition. Just curious to see how many others might be out there on the Dis.

All three are nice. I love the one your getting. I don't own a mustang but had to respond since my 11 year old car loving son liked your pictures. Although he prefers the one your selling. He has a three car plan when he is able to drive.
1. Subaru to start off
2. Mustang
3. Corvette :lmao:
(and then his dream cars of course Bucatti, lamborghini)!!!

Those look really cool!

Mine is a 2009, it is the most basic model in white. Seems to have the bugs worked out now *knock on wood*

I have a '97 Mustang with less than 41,000 miles. Rarely drive it, obviously.

Recently had to replace the intake on it. DD's boyfriend had to borrow it due to one of their cars being out of service. It was about 3 years since the Mustang had been run. Started, yes. But not actually driven anywhere. He was driving it to his home and the Mustang's intake gave out.

Here it is, along with DD's car that broke down less than 24 hours before this one. Sorry, but this is the most recent pic:rolleyes1

Other than the Subi (sorry grocery getters!) he's showing really good taste. I tease about the Subaru. Some of them are really quick!

Kathryn - 2009 was a great year. Both engines were near the end of their manufacturing life, but they were built extremely solid and should last many many years.

WDWMom2 - Thats very low miles indeed and the car looks in great shape! That's very strange for an intake to fail, especially on the 97GT. Those were metal unlike the the plastic intakes. Is it possible that it was the crossover coolant pipe on the intake that broke? That would make more sense, but they didnt switch to the plastic one in late 97 or 98 I thought. Those have always been a problem. You'd know because coolant would be leaking all over the top and front of the engine. I've never had an intake fail before and it's an extremely rare occurrence on any car...and usually only in a forced induction like with a supercharger or turbo. Intake manifold gaskets can fail and cause a fuel rich situation sometimes too, but the car will run albeit poorly. I hope you decide to fix it! It's a great looking ride!

Oh yeah - that's the 45th anniversary edition, right? Sweet ride!

Thanks! It had some problems with airbag light for a while, it took them about 4 months to fix it...once they finally got it stopped it has stayed fixed *knock on wood*

eek! If you've never had an airbag go off, they are scary. Glad they got it fixed!

Unfortunately, not so strange. When it happened, I googled the problem and came up with this. And, unfortunately again, I was way out of the period to recoupe any money. I copied and pasted from another Ford Forum...

Ford Settles Plastic Intake Lawsuit on 1997+ Mustangs
Ford Motor Copany has finalized a settlement that requires the company to pay at least $735 to each owner who had to replace an intake manifold.

Ford also is extending warranty coverage on the plastic part to seven years to cover vehicle owners who haven't replaced the manifold. The class-action lawsuit covered a total of 1.8 million vehicle owners, according to Morrow Cater, a spokeswoman for the plaintiffs.

A spokeswoman for the automaker, Kathleen Vokes, said Ford doesn't know how much the settlement will cost as it is unclear how many people will seek reimbursement.

Affected cars include the 1997 Ford Mustang and some Mustangs from the 1998-2001 model years. Other affected vehicles included in the settlement are the Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car from the 1996-2001 model years; the Mercury Cougar, Ford Thunderbird and some Ford Explorers from the 2002 model year.

Plaintiffs claimed the intake manifolds are prone to premature cracking, which could lead to coolant leakage and expensive damage to the engine. "Until this settlement, those who owned or leased these cars had to bear the brunt of the manufacturer's mistake," Mike Ram, one of the plaintiffs attorneys, said in a statement.

"Although we believe the class action was without merit, we are pleased that we were able to negotiate a settlement that will provide additional value to our customers," Ford's Vokes said.

Owners who replaced their intake manifolds within the first seven years of ownership can take the vehicles to a dealer and obtain reimbursement whether or not they have a receipt.

The vehicle must be brought to a dealer by March 16, 2006.

Thankfully the airbags didnt go off, it was just the light was blinking and burning. It took them about 5 attempts in 4 months to fix it. They even went so far as to replace the airbags and it still burned. Which was kind of frustrating, new airbags...I didn't even make it halfway home and the light came back on.

They finally figured out it was a wire somewhere causing it. Never happened again.

Beautiful cars!!!!!

My DH bought a 2002 mustang in 2007. Its black and a 5 speed. He drives it during the summer. He loves it! I will have to post a pic :)

With only 14k original miles. It has sat in the garage until this summer. DH finally realized HE and the car aren't getting any younger and he better start enjoying it LOL.

Ouch. I was hoping you werent going to say that you had this intake. Luckily I think mine was manufactured just prior to Ford switching to those junk plastic intakes. Mine is metal. I believe there's an aftermarket intake that you can use that doesnt have the leaking / cracking problem and Ford probably can still sell the replacement intake but that might be pricey. Here's a pic of the faulty design.

If you look directly in the center of the picture, that's where the cracking usually occurs. It can get water into the engine and thats bad bad bad!

I had that bad plastic intake(why, oh why would they use all plastic), but now a have a nice new one$$$$:headache:. Still some plastic on the new one, which is aftermarket, but the stress point where it cracks is NOT plastic.

Well, she is running fine now. I am making it a point to driving her to work 1 time a month. Just so she gets to see some daylight:thumbsup2;). And yes, she is in great condition!!!

And I thought that I had low miles:eek:

Tell him to run it like he stole it:rotfl2::rotfl2:. Just kidding:cool2:

Not myself but my DUncle and DSis both have them. Uncle just sold a convertible but this is his real baby:

3018_main_f.jpg

He is selling it because he wants to retire early. He is a master mechanic for UPS and all the years of working on semis and trucks have done him in. If he can sell it, he will have enough of a nestegg. It is killing him though, he restored it and has won a bunch of awards with it. He doesn't drive it often but let me tell you, when he does, you know he is coming!:rotfl:

DSis has a 5 speed from the 80's can't remember what year. It is being restored so my DNephew can (someday when he can afford the insurance!) drive it.

Pic is broken and now you piqued my curiousity!! A fellow stanger who lives across town in Denver proper has his dad living with him. They went to a mustang rally and he saw his old 70 Mach 1. The very car itself. He broke down in tears. Funny how a car can do that to a man.
