Well our Disney vacation this upcoming September that has been 6 years in the making with no hope of going :sad2: but this year we were able to scrape by and go  :woohoo:. Well our original reservation was for the Ft. Until the gas prices started their march towards $4.00  . As tight as things are and will be for us with gas, towing the pup and all, having to buy food and cook, which I really don't mind, and then the setup and tear down. We found the free dining offer, but was told that it is not for the Ft. as the prices for the Ft. are cheap enough already  . So we decided since this is our 1st trip to Disney as a family it would be best for us to stay at one of the resorts  . So we have changed our stay to the Pop Century Resort with free dining plan.:cool1: We have decided that we are going to check out the Ft. while we are there one day. Hopefully it will be our next trip ;) :dance3:

Hey, at least you will be at WDW, right? It is hard to beat the free dining offer. On our last trip, we found that the difference between the value room and the campsite was just about equal to the price of gas or at least slightly less than the increase in gas between just the car and the camper. Add in the price savings on cooking and the Fort still made more sense for us. We would have to re-calculate with free dining though.

I would really like to sit down and calculate the real costs of all the different options at some point. I think sometimes you have to take into account the park hours, travel times back and forth to the fort, your family's touring style, etc. Of course another big determining factor for us has always been the 2 rooms vs. 1 site difference.

The following in meant in playful humor.........

"Ashfamily,"

"You come to this court asking for mercy to allow you to visit WDW while staying at a RESORT (said with distaste) rather than Fort Wilderness" :cool2:

"We have given this subject considerable thought" :3dglasses

"The ruling of this Court is as follows" :teacher:

"Whereas the economics of free dining cannot be overcome given the time of the trip" :yay:
"Whereas the AshFamily has agreed to pay homage to the Fort by visiting for a day" :worship:

"Whereas the AshFamily has promised to STRONGLY consider the Fort for any subsequent visit" :thumbsup2

"It is hereby the ruling of this Court that the AshFamily is conditionally approved to attend their vacation."

So written this twenty-second day of May, 2011.

The Hangin' Judge,

Bama ED

PS - "the Court commends the AshFamily for coming clean BEFORE they were caught staying outside the Fort...."

I, for one, completely understand.
But you do however, realize that depending on which resort you stay at, that fishing could be difficult.

Ya'll hava great time, :thumbsup2

First, Bama ED, that was hilarious. :lmao:

Second, AshFamily, you're going to be at WDW, right? :goodvibes As for Pop Century, I've been there, done that a couple of times, and it is a fun place to stay. It was actually my first resort stay at Disney, so there's always going to be a spot for it it my heart.

Have a GREAT time! pixiedust:

Hi! We did the free dining last December when we took our children and grandchild as a gift, we stayed at a moderate resort. The entire time all I could think about was being at the Fort and enjoying our little spot. We started camping at Disney about three years ago and we have now realized that we wouldn't have it any other way. Didn't do a price comparison because it would have been 7 people vs. just the two of us. But the free dining was pretty sweet. So enjoy that, and maybe plan on visiting the Fort next time!

Totally understand free dining - can't pass that up! Last year we did free dining at Wilderness Lodge - it was a great experience.
