Forbidden Journey question

I am going to Universal next week. I am trying to find out the "relative" roughness/intensity of this attraction. Would someone please let me know if this is more like Mission Space, Everest, Mummy, or Spiderman? Or is it more intense than all of them? Or less? Does it feel like a simulator ride (Back to the Future/Startours)? Thanks for amy feedback you can give.

It isn't really like any of them. It is a smooth, continual motion that moves you in every direction from facing forwards to lying on your back. There is no jerkiness or jarring.

As per my DH it's not rough at all, very smooth and awesome.

Now, if you are prone to motion sickness you might want to think twice. I read so much on Dis before our trip that I didn't ride it (although Spiderman really isn't that bad for me) having my breakfast end up on someone else is not exactly my idea (or theirs) of a fun morning.

I completely agree. But a lot of people get woozy or sick after riding it. Still worth it to try at least once.

Here's a video of the robotic Kuka arms used in the ride,just imagine these arms with 4 seats on a track going through different scenes and video screens,the ones on the video are flipping the riders upside down and all over the place,Forbidden Journey isn't that extreme but it does put you on your back once or twice,the video just gives you an idea of what kind of ride it is,it is a fun ride.

Thanks. I love Spidreman and do fine on simulator rides but cannot do something line Mission Space and turn green on Everest. I think I can handle this and will probably enjoy this. Thanks for all your help!

At the beginning of the ride, Hermione "charms" your bench so that it flies. And the rest of the ride is really sort of that sensation - you do move up and down, through different things, get turned on your back, etc. but it's done very smoothly, as if you were floating or flying while it happens.

Some people do get very sick on this ride - I think it's a combination of the motion and the fact that the video images are slightly blurry. I did feel a slight drop in my stomach the very first time, when the benches first fly down out of the castle and start following Harry and Ron. But after that, I rode 16 more times and never had that feeling again. I don't normally get sick on rides though, so I really don't know what the triggers are.

Nothing like Mission Space. Very smooth, like you are flying. No big deal .

Quite a unique ride sensation but unlike the likes of mission Space i can come of this ride , queue again happily and ride again..and again...

Managed it 4 times in a row last year with the early opening meaning the the wait time was only around 10 minutes each time and felt fine

I've done Thunder Mountain 3 times in a row and felt quite bad at the end of that experience , lol.

I can't ride Mission Space or Everest. Did great on FJ.
It's just like that Kuka arm, only not quite as extreme with the flips and turns.
You will love it!

I can take motion on coasters but for some reason the "fake" motion gets me?? Simpsons is fine for me though so I'm not sure WHAT exactly it is about Soarin that got to me. I thought it was that my brain felt the movements but I knew I wasn't really moving. Hard to say. Maybe I'll just take something for nausea an hour beforehand anyway and give it a go anyway but it does seem to sound a little like Soarin??

This is usually the issue with any kind of simulation. For many people, simply closing your eyes during the simulated portions will help alot.

On the Soarin' comparison, I don't think they're much alike at all. Soarin' is very gentle with very little actual movement in the ride vehicle. FJ is smooth, but I don't know I would call it gentle. The ride vehicle puts your body in all sorts of orientations, almost to the point of upside-down.

I just got back yesterday and we rode FJ and I think it is a pretty extreme simulator, IMO. It really moves you around a lot of does flip you on your back a few times. I forgot to take my motion sickness medicine before we went to the park that day so about 90 seconds into the ride I had to lay my head back and close my eyes. I got nauseous and dizzy. I think I would have done a lot better if I had taken my Antivert. I was disappointed that I forgot to take it because I wasn't able to really enjoy the ride or ride it more than once. Although when we went we basically walked right on, with just a small line.

I didn't ride Mission Space ORANGE I only rode the Green and did fine on the Green version. I wouldn't compare FJ to MS at all. Totally different experiences.

I agree with above post, I rode FJ last week for the first time and I got very motion sick. I ride both Mission space Orange and green no problem, new Star Tours, 4 times in a row, Mummy, Everest, no big deal.
FJ killed me, I didn't think it was as smooth as everyone says and I felt like I was on my back almost upside down for half the ride. I was so disoriented I could barly tell what was happening.
It was a cool ride but I couldn't do it again and I really wanted to.

I felt like I had extreme car sickness as the best way to describe it.

Just like when Mission space opened and everyone was talking about how intense it was, I am sure everyone has a different sand sensations on FJ.

From my experience, one needs to keep their head back from the beginning. Keeping my head forward, for me, is what caused me to be rather ill the first time I rode it. It also got my glasses bashed into the hArness and my face, which HURT and didn't help anything.

I rode this ride last month against my better judgement. But my family kept telling me that it was no biggie, just like Soarin (which I can handle).

NOT!!!! SO NOT like Soarin. Soarin you are basically stationary. The "car" moves ever so slightly, more like sways. But it doesn't actually go anywhere.

FJ felt like the tilt-a-whirl on steroids. HATED it. I so wanted to love it (LOVE HP!!!) but I closed my eyes and prayed it would be over soon (it wasn't - took forever!). I felt like when you wake up from being put out for some medical procedure after I got off. Weird, groggy and very, very miserable. I didn't actually throw up or anything, but feeling overall "sick" and "blah" was not how I wanted to spend my vacation.

That video posted above is exactly what it's like but faster and without any upside down parts. You never go upside down on FJ, but swinging you around like the octopus ride or the tilt-a-whirl while watching huge movie pictures fly by your eyes was torturous to me.

Glad to have this info. I can handle EE easily. I can handle MS green - not about to try orange. I was okay on Soarin' but there were a couple spots where I closed my eyes. But I feel too sick on the carosel and teacups. I get carsick unless I sit in the front. I'm going to take along some Sea Bands just in case.

Edited to add: Just watched the You Tube video and felt a little dizzy at parts just from that. It reminded me of Spiderman - the part where you drop and the building rushes by you - but instead of just a moment feeling like this, it was most of it. However, I have not ridden FJ so add in the motion. I still want to try it, but will definately wear my Sea Bands. I'll also make my husband try it first - he doesn't get sick on rides easily, though Mission Space orange made him feel a little off. If he feels off, then I probably can't handle it.

I just wanted to add that my youngest, who is 8, is not the biggest ride person. Tower of terror and Everest scared him to death, but FJ was his favorite of both Disney and Universal rides

I agree. Sea Bands did absolutely nothing for me. I can ride the ride just fine with meclizine, though.
