Forbidden Journey-OMG motion sickness

Also sit up as straight as you can and keep your head firmly up against the headrest. That really worked well for me!

That's a good tip too.......my nephew said he did that, he gets slight motion sickness on simulators :thumbsup2

Slight motion sickness from FJ here as well; while I was fine with the non-screen sections, I needed to stare at my hand during the screen sections to prevent the motion sickness from becoming worse.

Totally worth it for the cue though.

FJ just about RUINED me. I have to medicate in general to ride pretty much anything (I use Transdermal Scop patches), and with the patch I can ride everything with no problems...except FJ (and Mission: Space orange side).

I rode FJ the first time and decided to try not using the patch and using Motion-eaze, ginger pills and sea-bandz. That stuff is absolute garbage! It didn't do squat and I practically oozed off the ride in a big quivering heap. During the ride I prayed for it to end. I have NEVER been that sick in my life. Then my cousins dragged me on Dragon Challenge and I thought I would die.

When I staggered off the ride, I sat on a bench by Three Broomsticks and cried. My skin was actually GRAY! The ginger pill I had taken prior to riding had lodged in my throat and was burning a hole in my esophagus on top of the wicked nausea. I sent poor DH on a hunt for pretzel to knock the pill down my throat...meanwhile a kind stranger who was sitting beside me reached in his backpack and offered me one of his waters. I looked right at him and asked if he was an angel!

Never ever again.

You are all making me seriously rethink my determination to go on this ride. I cannot even ride in the back seat of a car without motion sickness. Does anyone remember a ride at Epcot called Body Wars? Big motion simulator ride. Anyhow, that ride did me in for about 2 hours. Meaning, I could not even pick my head up off my hands for two hours. I avoid all simulator rides as a result. Yet I can ride roller coasters w very little issues. Tot was not an issue. I love water rides. But if it is a ride that spins a ton, I tend to avoid it.

I had hoped to take Bonine before and during our stay. Maybe give the bands a try for extra protection. I love Harry Potter, as do our kids. I can't imagine going there and not doing this ride but I am not interested in getting sick either. Is it mostly a motion simulator? Do you go anywhere during the ride or are you in just one place? Is there any better seat to sit in to minimize the motion sickness? Is that seat on a park bench outside the ride :(( ?

You are constantly moving sideways along a track, as well as pivoted side to side, flat on your back, and dipped forward. About half of the ride is screens, the other part is animatronics and scenery. I'd recommend the center seats, but it may not matter. The whole thing is constantly moving!

It might be best to wait until the very end of the night just in case you get sick, so it doesn't ruin your day.

For me, Body Wars was worse than FJ. Body Wars is the worst thing I've ever ridden.

Lots of people find that if they look away or close their eyes during the simulator scenes, they are fine.

The ride is also in the process of adding a cooling device to each vehicle to try to help with the motion sickness.

I was just on this ride 2 weeks ago. It was really bad for me this time with motion sickness. I got freaked out because my friend did not ride with me she waited for me at the exit.

While riding this ride they had to stop us ( i was so freaked out at least I was stuck on my stomach and not upset down) apparently their was a girl when it was time to get off the ride was throwing up all over herself so bad they had to stop the ride just to get her off the ride.

I think from now on I will skip this ride and just do the castle tour for now on.

I am so surprised by how many feel so sick on this ride!! I thought it was just me!! I am okay as long as I close my eyes during scenes!

They stopped it while I was on it too- it only served to prolong my agony

This is how I felt but Kudos to you for being able to ride something else. I was done for the day. I couldn't ride anything else and the walk back to the car was painful as well. I will never attempt it again-even medicated

I'm a rider as well but I would recommend for saving it for the last thing. At least if you get sick, it won't ruin your whole day. I swear it took me all evening to feel better and I still felt a little off when I got up the next day.

I'm kind of guessing here, but I've had a theory about this for while. Motion sickness is generally an inner ear thing. I've got family members that have it that are affected in one of two ways. First are those that can't handle physical motion; roller coasters etc are out; the inner ear just can't take that much motion. The others can't take simulators because their visual cues say they are moving but their inner ear says they aren't.

I think the thing with FJ is that if you are sensitive to both, it's going to absolutely kill you! The ride itself moves through a fairly wide range of motion, but what you are seeing on the screen accentuates and distorts the physical motion with additional virtual motion. So essentially you experience both physical and virtual motion at the same time and for some that means they are going to revisit their last supper in a decidedly unholy way!

Went to Universal yesterday and loved it except for this ride. I was so sick afterward-we had to go home-thankfully we rode it around 4 pm.

So before this ride we rode:
Rip Ride Rocket
Minion ride
Diaster
MIB
Twister
Mummy
None of these made me sick- I know FJ will be out of the question in the future but I am concerned about Spider Man and Transformers. At Disney- I usually skip teacups,Star Wars, and things that spin around. I am fine on Soarn.

Based on my experience should I just skips these rides?

Forbidden Journey is the only ride I've ever gotten motion sickness on (with the exception of one time on Star Tours that was my own fault-spaced out and didn't watch the screen). I hated that ride (though I'll admit it was amazing) but never had a problem on Spiderman. Never did Transformers.

I get motion sickness. I get carsick and seasick, but don't get sick while flying. I can do coasters fine but can't do spinning rides, like the teacups.

Simulators make me sick if the motion isn't synched to the video. Spiderman made me sick starting about a year before they redid the video. Back to the Future made me sick but Simpsons is fine. Star Tours makes me sick also. Transformers was fine for me. So as you can see, those rides bother me because the video and the motion were a little off from each other. My eyes were giving me signals that were in conflict with the signals that my body felt.

FJ doesn't bother me at all. Everyone has different triggers for nausea.

Reading this gives me hope. Your triggers sound very similar to mine.
