Saratoga Springs is a DELUXE RESORT...the newest of the DVC's and largest, that's probably why they had some smoking room left.......

No, that doesn't sound harsh. It sounds like a statement made by someone who has no empathy for another's situation, and a statement that is seasoned with a dose of condescension.

Hello all, we're back from a week at SSR. We had one BIG disappointment. We requested 2 studios in the Congress Park area. When we checked in they had two for us with DTD views. Here's the bad news: One of the rooms stunk so bad of cigarettes!!! We double checked to make sure this was a non-smoking room....it was. Both my DD and myself have asthma and we were both having a hard time. We realized that the previous guests had smoked on the deck, (cig butts and used matches were out there) and the smoke must have blown in there. The other studio was fine. My parents stayed in that room. They totally unpacked. SSR could not find us another studio anywhere in Congress Park. We all had to be moved to The Paddocks. I tried desparately to get them to upgrade us to a two bedroom instead of 2 studios. They had plenty available but they wouldn't do it. (We didn't have enough points.)

Anyway, it was a very crabby start, but the rest of the trip was great.

Sorry that happened to you. Seems that more are reporting that smokers are smoking in non-smoking rooms. Wish DVC would establish and enforce a policy of no smoking at all in a non-smoking room, including the patio/balcony area.

Sometimes the CMs actually tell smokers it is OK to smoke on the balcony and sometimes they even say it is OK to smoke in a non-smoking room!

Hope your next room is a "real" no-smoking room and glad you didn't let someone else's behavior spoil your trip.

I too think it is time DVC to put the same teeth into non-smoking units that other resorts are doing ( charging a $200 cleaning fee for people hwho smoke in NS units).

As for trying to get the resort to give you a 2 bedroom on the points for 2 studios....they really CAN'T do that. The only way would be if you had enough points for the difference.

Where we stay here in scotland (Arran) there is smoke alarms in the non smoking rooms so if anybody smokes the alarms go off. wonder why they can't do something along the same lines .

Our BCV room last week was N/S, but there were several cigarette butts on the patio.....I guess smoking is a license to litter.

I think that's the key. They really aren't motivated to do it. Just like they really don't consistently enforce the no smoking areas in the parks either.

Especially considering we are at a fun FAMILY oriented place with LOTS of kids. You'd think they'd be the first to go non-smoking all across the board.

they really need to start enforcing it more and more int he parks...think of all the people you have medical conditions I do and it really annoys me to no end.....
I think that it is rude of the smokers especially witha ll of the kdis at WDW...I do not want my kids to breath that in......

I think its about time Disney realises the health consequences of second hand smoke and makes all rooms and common areas non-smoking.I'm from New York City where they banned smoking in bars and restuarants and supposedly bussiness has never been better and some resturants have seen a surge in bussiness.I dont like sleeping in a room thats was non smoking and stinks of smoke because some selfish person couldnt go outside to smoke.I read one person say they wanted to be able to do what they wanted in there room..well there room is at home not on vacation.We all know smoking is no good for you so lets quit debating the issue.If you want to hurt yourself fine ..do it somewhere else where it doesnt effect others.

Many people find strong perfumes phyiscally dis-stressful. Disney shouldn't make a rule that no perfume or aftershave is allowed in DVC units. I absolutely agree that people need to be more responsible for their own behavior. However, I'm not sure that making all Disney resorts nonsmoking will "change nothing". If you make a hotel nonsmoking, and enforce those rules, people are far less likely smoke in it. I've stayed at more than one nonsmoking hotel, including Disneyland's own Grand Californian and it definitely makes a difference. Disney just needs to do a better job enforcing it at their Florida properties.

I have allergies to certain perfumes, including those used in scented candles. However, cigarette smoke is quite different than perfume or aftershave. Perfume and aftershave are much easier to clear out of the air and usually don't permeate upholstery, carpeting, and wall coverings. Cigarette smoke does permeate those things and is quite more difficult to clear from a room. Then of course, there's the occasional property damage often caused by careless use of smoking materials such as burn marks on furniture and carpets.

We're only a couple days away from our trip with the inlaws to SSR. We're requesting a non-smoking GV. My BIL is the only smoker in our party of 11, and I'm saying he can just go outside. My DH insists that his brother can't even do that -- he must not smoke anywhere in the vicinity of the villa.

Thoughts? Though I'd love for him to not smoke anywhere nearby, he could potentially get cranky without a fix!
