Is there such thing as an ALL NATURAL face moisturizer? Just bought some moisturizer and looked at the ingredients on the back of the box. Yuck! Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

What ingredients are you looking for? (more importantly what made you go yuck?)

You can look at the Natural markets (Whole Foods, Wild Oats and the like). They will have some in any of the lines they carry.

And just so you know--just b/c it has a chemical name you cannot pronounce, doesn't mean that it isn't natural.

Even the real name of Table Salt is Sodium Chloride.

They claim to be all natural:

The ingredients of their soy moisturizer:
Water, Ethylhexyl Isononanoate, Butylene Glycol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Emulsifying Wax NF, Diglycerin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tocopheryl Linoleate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Lilium Candidum Bulb Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf, Extract, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sprout Ex-tract, Wine Extract, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Citrus Aurantium, Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Persea Gratissima, (Avocado) Oil, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Allantoin, Dimethicone, Isostearic Acid, Carbomer, Aminomethyl Propanol, Potassium Sorbate, Sorbitan Stearate, Benzophenone-3, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben

my DM just uses plain mineral oil on her face. She has for years. Thats about as natural as you can get!

The difficulty with many "natural" ingredients is that too remain fit to use over a period of time there needs to be a preservative in the product. Vaseline, olive oil, almond oil, they could be used as all natural moisturizers.

I want ingredients that are better for my face. I have no clue, thus this thread. Some of the big named ingredients are isohexadecane #3 on the list, cyclopentasiloxane #7, iodopropynyl, butylcarbamate #'s 14 & 15. I bought Olay Complete w/ sph 15.

I'm no chemist, but some of these ingredients can't be good for my face.

Icyclopentasiloxane #7,.

I looked it up in the dictionary link..and it the definition link linked to this:

silicone. Substance derived from silica (sand is a silica). The unique fluid properties of silicone give it a great deal of slip and in its various forms it can feel like silk on the skin, impart emolliency, and be a water-binding agent that holds up well, even when skin becomes wet. In other forms, it is also used extensively for wound healing and for improving the appearance of scars (Source: Journal of Wound Care, July 2000, pages 319–324).

Doesn't seem harmful.

I totally agree! :thumbsup2

Also just b/c it is natural--doesn't mean that it is safe either--some natural things would kill you of course.

Don't be fooled by the "all natural" label - it's a deceiving term! Make sure you know what you are looking for:

That's why I qualified by saying "claim to be"--claim to be an actually being good for you are two different things.

OP--you may have to just find single ingredient products (or limited ingredient products) that will meet your needs.

On the soy moisturizer--one of the chemicals is named in Vitamine E...one of the chemicals appears more in water than in the product and is deemed not harmful...and another is a fatty acid (I didn't look them all up).

So it is best to research ingredients rather than assume just b/c you can't pronounce it or it "sounds" dangerous--doesn't necessarily mean that it is.

Mineral Oil is not good for your skin.

From Wikepeda

Mineral oil or liquid petrolatum is a by-product in the distillation of petroleum to produce gasoline. It is a chemically inert, transparent, colorless oil composed mainly of alkanes and cyclic paraffins, related to white petrolatum. Mineral oil is a substance of relatively low value, and it is produced in very large quantities. Mineral oil is available in light and heavy grades, and can often be found in drug stores.

It clogs up pores, and adds nothing of value to your skin. It forms a barrier layer to the skin which stops the skin's ability to breath and moisturize itself.

For pure products, try

www.sodashi.com

or

www.jurlique.com

I've worked with both lines at spas (I'm a massage therapist) and they are a little pricey, but worth it for your skin.

Be aware that for a product to be labeled as 'natural' it only has to have a very small amount of natural product in it.

I won't buy a moisturizer without SPF in it.

Because of severely dry skin since I was a teen, I have used Vaseline. I just wonder how bad it is????

I have tried so many things over the years, thinking that it couldn't be good for me, but it is the ONLY thing that stops the tightness and flakiness.

For it to have an SPF, it has to be chemically enhanced.

Not that that's bad, just not what the OP is looking for :)

Like mineral oil, vaseling it a petroleum product, and it too forms a barrier on the skin. It stops your skin from producing sebum naturally, so it is actually probably contributing to the drying of your skin. It's a cycle.

Have you tried plain Jojoba oil? It's the closest thing to the skins sebum.
