THIS is my life, really, and y'all wonder why I am the way I am! Don't kid yourself, that big fat doe is probably his family's Thanksgiving dinner...

LOL.....don't they make CARS in Michigan?

Disgusting............:( :( :(

See this movie before your next "hunt".........

I thought you didn't have a problem with hunting Eros? Change your tune? Would you rather the deer die from starvation, instead of feeding hungry families? Is that humane? No, it's not.

aahmom, Daniel Boone hunted to provide food for his family. Davy Crockett did so as well. Perhaps in MI, the deer which are killed feed starving families. In MA, most of the hunting is for.........SPORT:( :( :( . Is it "sporting" to shoot a defenseless bird out of the air???????? Is it "sporting" for a middle/upper class "hunter" to put a bullet through the head of a helpless deer???

In THE DEERHUNTER DeNiro came to understand the sanctity of ALL life............... if you haven't seen the movie, I'd strongly recommend it. Be warned; it's a painful exploration......

Eros, here in Michigan a real man doesn't hunt for sport, I have NEVER known a man who didn't eat what he kills.

Do I hunt? No, it's not something I could do, but I don't begrudge anybody from doing it or look down my nose at them.

I know MANY families that do not eat any beef, they eat the venison that they kill. So please, don't be so quick to look down your nose at hunting, it really truly feeds many families here and many many deer would starve to death if there were no hunting. This way, at least, families are being fed.

Also, do you have a problem with cows getting killed? To me that's even less 'sportsman' like. How about pigs, do you eat your sausage in the morning? Bacon? Why are they different?

Have a couple of deer jump out and hit your car and then we'll see how you feel about the subject. In 1996, there were over 68,000 deer/car accidents in our state alone. Add to that the damage they do to crops. In Michigan they're like large rats with antlers. To answer your question, yes there are programs here that provide deer meat to food banks. You also don't know this guys station in life, the UP of Michigan isn't exactly known as an economic hot spot. So how do you know the guy's family doesn't need the protein?

Oh, I see, as long as someone "eats" the deer, then their killing is really not "sport"   . I stand corrected;) ;) .

I'm a hangun owner. If I go into my backyard, kill a squirrel, and serve it to my family, then am I a "sportsman" or a conscientious provider or a jerk ????? Should I feel "manly" over my ability to put a .380 bullet into a small animal??????

If it's squirrel season and your hunter, then yes, that's hunting darlin.

You are waaaaay off on this argument Eros, give it up.

BTW, if the guy in the picture was hunting for 'sport' as you call it, do you really think he'd be carrying that deer on his back? I don't think so!

Most people no more hunt to be "manly" than they do when they go fishing.

Question- My Dad used to hunt deer in the Sierras, and I thought only bucks with a certain number of points in their antlers were legal to kill. Is it different in Michigan? (Just curious)

I don't hunt, but as long as the kill is eaten, I'm ok with it. If you eat meat, somebody killed it, so its no worse or better if you do it yourself.

Whether its "sporting" or makes one "manly" is another question completely.

I know a few women who hunt too, I don't think they're trying to be manly.

Eros, are you having turkey tomorrow? Well heck, I do believe that little bugger had to die for you to eat it, what difference does it make if you kill it or it gets killed at the slaughter house? Your hands are cleaner somehow?

Geoff, that's a good reason to gun down those deer........prevent car accidents:rolleyes:  . It must be the Lord's will.......kill those deer to keep our highways safe:D :D :D .

Aahmom, I've NOT a vegetarian. I could never be a hunter, and I could never work in a slaughterhouse. At least the butchers in the slaughterhouse don't call their profession a "sport"......:(

Hmmmmmmmmm,on second thought I think that I'll get my .45 out tomorrow and go hunt down some of those varmints in the backyard:rolleyes:    ......

I don't know the exact rules Raidermatt, I'm fairly certain that more doe licenses are given out a year than buck licenses though. I do not know the standards of the buck licenses.
