My son has the DS Lite, but it has seen better times. I wanted to get him a new one for Christmas and am trying to decide between the DSi and the DSi XL.

He is eight years old and I didn't know if the XL would be too big for his hands.

Thanks for any input!

My son is 7, and got the XL for his birthday. Not too big for his hands. He likes it. My only downside is that I can't get a nerf case for it! He is actually small for his age too, so you shouldn't have a problem with that.

I was wondering the same question since my DD is 8...glad to know it won't be too big..better pick mine up soon before they are hard to come across and for only $169 it's cheaper than i was planning on spending :)

I would go with the XL. I just compared them yesterday in size to the DSI and really the unit is not all that much bigger, but the screen size is great! I got each of my kids the red Mario edition. Best Buy also had the Nerf case for $16.99 so I picked up 1 (they only had 1 of the colors in stock, now I gotta find another color).

DS 10 thought the DsiXL would be too big for his pocket, so he wants the DSi instead. Just a thought if you were worried about size.

Don't mean to hijack your thread, but has anyone tried putting the XL in the front pocket on a pair of boys jeans?

The main problem that I've had with the XL is that its heavy. You can only hold it up for so long before it gets really tiresome. I'd go with a dsi.
