For those with microwaves over the stove...

OP, something that I see people do all the time is boil water in a pan without a cover. Even in the middle of the summer.:scared1:
If you cover the pan, the water heats up quicker, and the humidity will not escape.

I lived in this house for almost 15 years and didn't realize that my microwave over the stove was not vented outdoors.

Anywhoo, we re-did the kitchen and replaced the old microwave and had the contractor vent it outdoors.

The next time I saw him, I told him it was his fault that I burned my chicken. I was frying chicken and put the vent on as usual and it worked so well I didn't realize that it was burning!

I've never had a problem. When the stove is on, so is the exhaust, to prevent it from heating up the house. That must take care of any steam build up as well.

We had one in our last house. No problems with moisture. But a word of caution. I'm 5'3" and when I was pregnant, I was cooking something on the gas stove and and reached up to put something in the microwave. I caught my shirt on fire.

I grabbed the sprayer on the sink and put it out. Felt kind of dumb.

However, it IS a bit of a pain to put things in the microwave if you are on the short side!

You are supposed to turn the vent on everytime you cook anything on the stovetop, in order to pull the steam out from under the microwave. I may not turn the vent on when scrambling an egg or the like, but it is always turned on HIGH when boiling water. Check your microwave owner's manual.
